I've asked Solice about d20 Modern's future. Looking into it, she tells me there are plans for an updated d20 modern game BUT no ETA on when, or when there will be an announcement. The exact quote is "We do plan on updating the d20 rules and content, but we do not have a date at this time. Stay tuned!"

I've asked Solice...

Who's Solice?

I think they should take their time and observed if certain 4e mechanics work or not. Then tailor it for modern-adventure genre.

I know that with the new "d20 Modern" rules there will be a new GSL (the existing one is a Dungeons & Dragons GSL). I pray the d20 GSL will be less restrictive and encourage content sharing among 3PP.

That makes me very happy. I dont think 4th ed would be a good transition...frankly I think the rules work out very well already.

Its good to know my favorite genre isnt dead...or, its being ressurected.

Solice is the new D&D community liaison.

I strongly believe that Modern 2.0 will benefit from the lessons learned by the 4E D&D and SW Saga. What the game (and GSL) will actually turn out to be is a mystery to me... Apart from manifesting our interest in buying new Modern stuff the «Wait and see» option is the only thing we can do right now.

It isn´t a surprise for me. I was imagineing it since a lot of time ago. And I would rather a good work that soon return.

When the official return was broadcast I will wanted about the plans about "Urban Arcana", "d20 Past" and "d20 Spectaculars".

Considering that many of us were spoiled by a more 3PP-friendly rulesystem in the 3e Era (circa 2000-2007 AD), that is my biggest concern about the next GSL.

New content...makes me tingle. I'm very happy with D20 modern and very optimistic about new content...I just really hope that they listen to the feedback from the players and do some QnA to make a better system, just work out all the kinks. Other than that I'm pretty happy with the game we have.
