Well, there's the Star Wars Campaign setting/rules from Wizards. Waylan Wolf did wonderful work with Battlestar Galactica. Skrit (I'm sorry I can't remember how you spell the rest of your handle Embarassed ) created both Warhammer 40K material and his own setting,

Elysium Nebula.  And Cyber-Dave created the Land of Nod setting and also all the work he put into redoing capital ships. And let's not forget marcoasalazarm's own setting where fictional characters, items and places came to life. There are other settings created, which I can't remember off hand.

Using all the books (including past) I think Star Wars can be done, I like the flavor of the 'classless' classes from d20 Modern. Future Tech gives us the energy sword. It is the force I am not sure about but...I could probably just use the psychic rules...

Its true. I love d20 Modern. I think that for its time, it was the best product released by WotC. I still consider some of my d20 Modern purchases to be the best purchases I have made. The fluff from Dark Matter is awesome. Critical Locations makes any of my Modern/Future games easier to run. And I tend to use updated versions of the d20 Cyberscape and d20 Apocalypse rules in the Saga games I get a chance to run to date. But I think that Star Wars Saga edition really took the concepts created by d20 Modern, and transformed them into a better game. I realize its a subjective judgement. But for my purposes, I find that the Saga engine is a better engine for running sci-fi in general, let alone Star Wars specific games.

To the OP, I seriously suggest you take a look at the Star Wars Saga game. The classes are not given generic names in the Saga system. However, for all intents and purposes, the classes are pretty much just as generic as the classes from d20 Modern (with the exception of the Jedi class). The Noble is pretty much a charismatic/smart hero rolled into one. The soldier is a strong/tough hero rolled into one. The scoundrel and the scout are both fast heroes, but define different aspects of the fast hero. Characters are designed using the same premise as d20 Modern heroes (lots of multiclassing to build a concept, and each class also grants a huge list of options via talent trees instead of fixed class abilities). In fact, the prestige classes are even more open ended than the advanced classes are, as the prestige classes have talent trees just like the base classes (instead of the fixed class abilities granted to advanced classes in Modern). Between the various splat books, the game even has mechanics that are directly inspired by/similar to the Modern background/profession system.

That is just my 2 cents. If you would prefer to run Star Wars using d20 Modern, you are of course free to do so. I remember back in the day there was a thread in the Star Wars forums called "Modern Star Wars." The thread was a group effort to create pretty much exactly what you are asking for. However, ever since Saga was released, that thread seems to have died off. From what I remember, the people who were working on that thread pretty much unanimously agreed that Saga offered them a better version of what they wanted than their own work. You might be able to find it with a bit of search-fu if Saga is really not your thing, though.

If you are interested in seeming some "d20 Future" games created using the Saga mechanics, check The Land of Nod out in my signature. Its a fully fleshed out campaign setting designed using a modified version of the Saga ruleset. In other words, its a sci-fi campaign setting that has nothing to do with Star Wars, but uses the Star Wars Saga rules. It may (or may not) interest you.

In any case, good luck with your gaming!

My issue with Saga is Money, nothing to do with dislike of the system. I have opened the book and read chunks of it while window shopping at a Borders or Barnes and Noble. I already have access to d20 Modern and Future.

Yea, I can't help with money...

I don't know. It seems like the major component that you need in order to run Star Wars with d20 Modern is force powers. It seems like trying to create them would be a lot of work. Once upon a time I might have been up for a project of that scope. I mean, once upon a time I re-wrote the d20 Future book, from the ground up, in order to make it worth using... But these days I hardly even have the time to write any RPG related content, let alone RPG related content of that scope. Too busy. I wish you the best of luck if that is the route you choose to take. I am sure that, given the time, you can create a Star Wars game out of the d20 Modern rules that will be quite fun.

If you happen to find the money to start buying Saga related products, I highly suggest it. It is currently one of my 2 favorite RPG systems (3 if I count my heavily houseruled Monte Cooks World of Darkness, though I really rank that system as slightly worse, mechanically speaking, than my other 2 favorites. Though, to be fair, it is better at running horror games then my other 2 favorite systems). The thing is, depending on your perspective, now is either the best or worst time to start buying Saga products. There are 2 more products scheduled for release, and after that it looks like that game is going to be finished. There are no new Saga products scheduled on the horizon after the next 2 releases. That either means that the game is about to be a finished product, and its older books are going to start raising in prices soon, which means now is the time to buy (the KotoR and Starsips of the Galaxy splat books already sell for something like 100 dollars instead of their old release price). Or, that might mean that there is no point to buy Saga now, because they will probably, eventually, release something new. Hell, maybe it will be a new d20 Modern game (as they have, in the past, oscillated publication schedules between Star Wars and d20 Modern related products).

Anyways, whatever you decide, best of luck! If you decide to try and create your own Star Wars game out of d20 Modern, remember to post your work here. I am sure many of us would be happy to help you PEACH your work, and tweak it to your needs.

I really don't do the modding thing all too much though that is probably why I like the tool box nature of d20 Modern line. You can adjust but not really have to break stuff. The only real things I ever 'modded' was when I ran DnD games giving Sorcerer's the eschew material feat for free at level one and in Ebberon Dnd allowing Neutral clerics to command or destroy undead.

Without modding I think you are SoL. I mean, you can take the battlemind and psion classes, and use that as a basic starting ground to represent the jedi. But you are still going to have to perform some heavy modding to make them really create an accurate reflection. If you are not willing to spend the time modding, I am sad to say, I think you are going to have to go with the "spending cash" route.

We arn't talking modding, we are talking writing Homebrew at these point. I am leaning toward going 'custom' universe now and go for a space opera.

Did I ever try a d20 Future Star Wars homebrew! I tinkered with that thing for years. It was ages ago, and ultimately I quit 'cause SAGA rocked my socks.

I could probably turn up some of the bits and pieces, if you like. The thread has long since vanished. I had to build all the Force elements from scratch as feats, advanced and prestige classes, and a unique FX system. Other than that, it was pretty much just equipment. I kept weapon damages in line with d20 Modern stuff, and upped the critical multiplier to x3 for blasters.

Let me know if you're interested in any of it. I'll see what I can find and post it up or email it to you.

Edit: Cyber-Dave, I wonder if you meant my thread? I had all the "chapters" as separate posts right at the thread's start...

WoTC has put out two Star Wars games using variations on the d20 rules (Star Wars d20 and Star Wars Saga). Is that what you mean?

No, it is not.

Thank you for the offer Talmariel but with my new idea I don't think I will be needing it.

Homebrew is the best choice for what you want to do. Probably less time consuming too.
I recommend you drop by a store and read the Force section in SAGA. The force «suit of cards»
system is great and is far better (and not broken) than previous booking keeping «power points» systems.

Was your thread posted in the mess hall? If so, yes, I think I am talking about your thread...

Pretty sure it was. Now I'm remembering how much fun that was, and wondering if I can piece it back together...

Sweet jumping Jedi! That's my old thread! Now to just copy it all down...

For the life of me I can't recall the fellow's name, but a board member really dug into the project with me. I think that's his site; he'd asked about putting it up. I never expected it to still be there!
