| #1LivingShadowJul 27, 2007 6:52:02 | The name has been taken from the site whose pics I'll be using. Homeworld Shipyards Credits for the Game as they appear in the game. Homeworld Credits Kadesh "After analyzing the data we collected from the Khar-Toba's sister ship we've been able to determine what happened in the nebula. While the Khar-Toba was able to limp to Kharak, this ship instead must have tried to hide here. They soon resorted to preying on ships passing through the nebula. In time the nebula became off limits to all shipping. They developed hyperspace inhibitor technology to trap prey from far away without leaving the safety of the nebula. Eventually it became the center of their existence and ultimately, their religion." -Fleet Inteligence Swarmer |

| #8i_am_some_guyJul 27, 2007 9:47:45 | Homeworld would be a very interesting setting to game in. The ships are already laid out, the weapons listed. Are you planning on running a campaign for it anytime soon? |
| #9LivingShadowJul 27, 2007 15:31:28 | I'm not acctually planning on using these. However I may end up doing so eventually. Right now I'm just converting the ships to D20. Speaking of which I'm working on adding the Kadesh fuel pod, multi-beam frigate, and needleship. Anyway feel free to use them if you want to. |
| #10romulan_knightJul 27, 2007 20:01:20 | Ah, Homeworld, The site of ships that one can almost see existing in any nearly any High Tech Sci-fi setting simply because they are so simple yet so wonderful. I still don't know why people are crazy about the Kadesh though. |
| #11kronos182Jul 27, 2007 20:16:16 | Ah, Homeworld, The site of ships that one can almost see existing in any nearly any High Tech Sci-fi setting simply because they are so simple yet so wonderful. probably because of the multi-beam frigate. it's faster than the ion frigates the other two races get initially, if i remember correctly.. and it's one of the few ships with 4 ion cannons that's lighter than a destroyer class. also it's fighters are on average better than the two main races, except the fuel limitation. |
| #12LivingShadowJul 28, 2007 6:27:31 | I started with the Kadesh for two reasons: 1:their back story is the simplest 2:they have the second least number of ships (under the Bentusi but they are rather complicated with several PL 9 systems) Another thing about the Multibeam. It has the best mass to firepower ratio in the game. (Not to mention you can get about 15 by the end of "Cathedral of Kadesh) Also they can take out fighters rather reliably due to their attack style. Adding the needleship and new parts now. |
| #13zombiegleemaxJul 28, 2007 16:58:46 | I would be very interested in a simple blueprint design of these ships and their stats that I could save for future use. If you could make something like that and send it my way, I'd be very happy. ~Smilin_Bandit~ :D |
| #14romulan_knightJul 28, 2007 18:47:28 | As for getting multiple Multi-Beam frigates, I know someone captured like everyone you fight which is like 30-40 of them... |
| #15kronos182Jul 28, 2007 21:15:28 | I would be very interested in a simple blueprint design of these ships and their stats that I could save for future use. If you could make something like that and send it my way, I'd be very happy. http://shipyards.relicnews.com/index.html is a good site to get game stats and the other info about the ships. but so far, I have not found anywhere that has anything resembling blueprint style images for these ships. there isn't a whole lot of fan art that i remember seeing either.. then again, i haven't looked in a couple of years. *shrugs* |
| #16LivingShadowJul 29, 2007 6:50:26 | Actually there are semi-blueprints for some of the ships. Look next to the design specs on any of the player races. I'll see if I can get some screenshots. Edit:Got it, look on the right side of the screen on the one of the research manager |
| #17naldorJul 31, 2007 11:58:02 | I think the Junkyard Dawg needs a bit of a buff. Only 20,000 HP? That is less than a dreadnought. I would multiply the HP by 10, and up the hardness to 100. Last time I engaged it, (with the aid of a gravwell of course) I had 5 Destroyers, 40 or so ion frigates, 19 multi-beam frigates, 25 assualt frigates and a pair of heavy cruisers. It still took well over a minute of concentrated firepower to kill that thing. That much firepower would have finished off even a heavy cruiser is seconds. The grappling claw rules look fine, considering the defense of most ships is below 10, and you've got a +12 on the check. DC 40 ought to be okay, though if there is a heroic computer specialist onboard it'll probably get beat. (my campaign has a lvl 4 smart hero with +23 computer use, and its been amazing to see what he can do) |
| #18i_am_some_guyJul 31, 2007 12:19:45 | If I had the time I'd create a full D20 ship rules system based off the Homeworld system of ships, weapons and combat. Since D20 Future ship systems is woefully inadequate somethign is needed. |
| #19LivingShadowJul 31, 2007 15:48:56 | I think the Junkyard Dawg needs a bit of a buff. The heavy cruiser is more of a heavy class cruiser instead of a superheavy dreadnought (which appears in HW2). Either way I looked up the HP for both the needleship and the Junkyard dog and they were rather close. (I acctually took about half that time with less ships. I think you needed to position it better.) If I had the time I'd create a full D20 ship rules system based off the Homeworld system of ships, weapons and combat. I personally don't see any problems. It just takes a bit of adapting to create the homeworld ships. Starting to work on the bentusi now. |
| #20LivingShadowAug 05, 2007 6:12:28 | Just bumping for now. I have been busy lately and haven't had the chance to work on the bentusi. |
| #21zombiegleemaxAug 12, 2007 23:19:34 | If I had the time I'd create a full D20 ship rules system based off the Homeworld system of ships, weapons and combat. Why? D20 Future already has working space combat rules, what can't it cover besides 3D combat? Anyways, you have to own the Homeworld manual (or find it on the Internet) to see all the specs, but it's very detailed. Every ship is laid out with weight and size, and all of the key technology is explained superficially. It's a great setting for a large-scale space combat game. |
| #22LivingShadowAug 13, 2007 6:25:32 | Finished the tradeship and cargo barge still need to do the acolyte and the Bentus. I havn't been able to post the stats since I'm kind of busy. Thomar_of_Uointer I'm also stating out some of the ships without actual in-game stats. IE:the acolyte and the Bentus |
| #23i_am_some_guyAug 13, 2007 10:01:10 | Why? D20 Future already has working space combat rules, what can't it cover besides 3D combat? The D20 space-ship rules are pretty poor. Have you actually tried playing with them? House-ruling a system is better than what they have. It's hard consideirng other games (some much older) have far better systems. |
| #24LivingShadowAug 13, 2007 11:49:15 | I personally will be changing it minorly if I end up using it. Most notably the manuverability. |
| #25LivingShadowAug 14, 2007 16:11:22 | I managed to post the cargo barge and the tradeship. I am now working on the acolyte and the Bentus. |
| #26LivingShadowAug 20, 2007 13:43:53 | Finished and posted the acolyte. Now for the Bentus. Can you create batteries of fire-linked weapons? |
| #27LivingShadowAug 30, 2007 15:29:36 | I just looked at the Bentus again and it is just HUGE.![]() Notice the tradeship near the core of the Bentus. I will need some more time to roll this up due to its insaneness. |
| #28LivingShadowSep 04, 2007 9:11:12 | Finally got it finished will edit in a sec. Also adding docking and space for needleship and space for tradeship. |
| #29LivingShadowSep 14, 2007 14:28:24 | Added some of the Turanic ships, will add more later. As a side note, is anyone other than me going to post? |
| #30LivingShadowSep 14, 2007 17:26:11 | Finished the Turanic ships, Kushan and Taiidan are next |
| #31LivingShadowSep 29, 2007 7:05:55 | I haven't forgotten about this. I'm currently trying to work out how to stat the Kushan and Taiidan fleets. My current stratigy is to stat a base and apply different sets of weapons depending on the ship. |
| #32LivingShadowOct 12, 2007 16:58:35 | Started posting base ships for Kushan and Taiidan. Will add individual class features next. |
| #33LivingShadowOct 25, 2007 16:24:55 | I'm going to be finishing up the fighters, corvettes, and frigates soon. |
| #34LivingShadowOct 29, 2007 18:28:15 | Added systems for fighter and corvette classes. |
| #35LivingShadowNov 17, 2007 16:43:14 | I will be adding Frigate Class systems soon. |
| #36LivingShadowNov 19, 2007 16:22:25 | I added the Credits to the first post. Anyone who plays this game should see it at least once. Music is Homeworld by Yes. I was not the person who posted it on Youtube though. |
| #37LivingShadowDec 11, 2007 20:09:28 | Added the stats for the Taiidan and Kushan carrier. |
| #38herbert_westDec 31, 2007 11:41:11 | I love this thread :D I registered just to post on it. When will the stats for the ship systems be posted? |
| #39LivingShadowDec 31, 2007 15:26:42 | Thanks for the compliment. The Kushan and Taiidan ship systems should be up soon. After that I'll add the super capitals and other ships. |
| #40LivingShadowDec 31, 2007 15:57:22 | Ship systems are up. Now to work on the super capitals. |
| #41herbert_westJan 01, 2008 12:03:20 | Will this eventualy include the Progenitor ships (ie the Movers, the Dreadnaught((s?)) and Sajuuk)? |
| #42LivingShadowJan 01, 2008 17:04:20 | I will probibly create stats for the Progenitor ships. However my knowlege of them is incomplete. (May need to watch some gameplay videos.) Currently I'm working on HW then I'll cover Cataclysm and then HW 2. |
| #43LivingShadowJan 18, 2008 16:32:19 | I've been looking into the HW2 ships recently. Interesting I may need a special weapon for the Sajuuk main cannon. |
| #44herbert_westJan 19, 2008 13:26:14 | Interesting I may need a special weapon for the Sajuuk main cannon. YAY!:D |
| #45LivingShadowFeb 02, 2008 16:01:51 | Been having a lot of work, I'll try to get the super capitals up as soon as possible. |
| #46herbert_westFeb 04, 2008 11:46:19 | And again, all I can say is "Yay!" |
| #47LivingShadowFeb 09, 2008 19:00:04 | I got the super capitals for the Kushan and Taiidan up. Now I have to work on the specialized ships. |
| #48LivingShadowFeb 29, 2008 15:40:45 | Sorry I haven't posted in a while, school is loading work onto me and I haven't had the time. |
| #49LivingShadowMar 25, 2008 17:33:19 | Bump, I'm still working on this. |
| #50LivingShadowApr 27, 2008 6:45:44 | I should have time to work on this in about a week or so. Until then bump. |
| #51herbert_westMay 07, 2008 12:48:41 | YAY! I was starting to think that you had died. As always looking forward to the next installment! |
| #52LivingShadowMay 07, 2008 13:40:36 | Thanks, I'm glad to hear someone's actually reading my stuff. I should be able to work on it by next week. |
| #53herbert_westMay 13, 2008 10:39:26 | Can't wait! I've started using them for various races in my campaign, and they're turning out to be really useful! |
| #54LivingShadowMay 13, 2008 14:02:59 | Glad you are finding a use for them. I should be able to post some more on friday. |
| #55cobalttheblueknightMay 13, 2008 16:36:50 | I must say, I always liked the Homeworld games. I only got to play the original and Cataclysm. I liked how you could speed up time in Cataclysm as well as put your ships on patrols. I wonder, are you going to adapt the siege cannon from that game at some point? Giving the mothership of your fleet a nice, big gun is always fun. Especially when you nail an enemy mothership with it for a good solid direct hit, at full strength. Not much could stand up to that. Anyway, I also think D20 Future's ship combat system is a bit lacking. One thing I would do is use an entirely different size scale for spaceships. Otherwise just about everything is colossal, no matter how much larger it is than the other colossal ships. Essentially, ultralights become tiny, lights become small or medium, mediumweights are large, heavy's are huge, and superheavies are gargantuan or colossal. Anything smaller than an ultralight has it's original size catagory reduced by 3, so that things which used to be large are now treated as diminutive, and anything smaller than that is fine. So, in order from smallest to largest we have: Fine - humans, housecats, guns, and birdfeeders Diminuative - trolls, werens, large mecha, lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) Tiny - ultralights, huge mechas, festergog (vomit fiend), monsterous flytraps Small - some light starships, gargantuan mecha, plesiosaurs Medium - some light starships Large - medium weight starships, colossal mecha, great wyrm red dragons Huge - heavy weight starships, colossal + great wyrm red dragons (from the Epic Level Handbook) Gargantuan - some superheavy ships Colossal - larger superheavy ships |
| #56LivingShadowMay 13, 2008 16:46:23 | Personally I was considering leaving the sizes as is but using a manuver system to clasify how well any particular ship can turn. Kind of like the DnD flying manuverability rules. |
| #57cobalttheblueknightMay 13, 2008 18:26:11 | Here's something else, how is it that the largest ships in D20 Future can move almost as fast, and sometimes faster than the much smaller fighters? When in most cases smaller ships are much, much faster than huge capital ships. Perhaps a size based penalty to speed? |
| #58LivingShadowMay 13, 2008 19:02:30 | The reason is the Larger ships have more powerful engines and thus can move the bulk around faster. It just takes them longer to get up to speed. Smaller ships while more manuverable don't have as much thrust so they end up with the same top speed. However, I would most likely impose a manuverability penalty to speed. |
| #59cobalttheblueknightMay 14, 2008 12:09:20 | One thing I did for a while for ship combat was have large ships have to "charge up" their speed. The larger the vessel was, the longer it took to get up to full speed. But as this required the captains of very large ships to keep in mind how long its been since they started moving, it tended to get forgotten or purposefully ignored in actual ship combat. They had to spend a number of move actions equal to their size modifier "speeding up" to reach their full tactical speed. Large was one move action at half speed. Huge was one move action for a 500 foot shift, then another moving half speed. Gargantuan was two move actions at 500 feet, then another at half speed. Colossal was two at 500 feet, then two at half speed. |
| #60LivingShadowMay 14, 2008 14:25:05 | Interesting, I may attempt to write up new manuverability rules incorperating that. |
| #61LivingShadowMay 16, 2008 14:41:22 | Proximity Sensor and Sensor Array added to new ship systems. |
| #62novemJun 30, 2009 21:12:35 | Homeworld and Cataclysm are and have always been my favorite games. I also loved the time-acceleration. Loved the idea of the beast, but would've preferred a limit on the infection power. |
| #63herbert_westJul 01, 2009 6:40:36 | Wow, way to bring up a very old and very dead thread. :P I do belive LivingShadow discontinued his work on these a loooong time ago due to only myself and a few others showing intrest. Although I would dearly love to see LS continue with them, somehow I don't think it will happen. ![]() Its nice to see that they're still on the forum however, as this thread was why I registered here. If I was using the Beast in a game, I would probably stat it as Gray Goo Nanites with a few cosmetic changes and Use Computer skill. |
| #64LivingShadowJul 01, 2009 15:59:37 | If I can get more interest in this I may start it up again. So don't think of it as permenantly discontinued. ;) |
| #65herbert_westJul 03, 2009 6:01:44 | That is not death which can eternal lie? Good to hear. This brings hope for the future. |
| #66novemJul 05, 2009 19:24:45 | I was always a big Somtaaw fan because it was clear they were trying to combine the Kushan and the Kadesh (Hive Frigate, non-broken Multibeam Frigate come to mind). It would be interesting to play a Homeworld Universe d20 game, but I don't actually have the d20 modern rulebooks. I just noticed this thread in LivingShadow's sig and failed my save vs. overexcitement. |
| #67LivingShadowJul 05, 2009 19:35:41 | I just noticed this thread in LivingShadow's sig and failed my save vs. overexcitement. Well, I suppose that's a good thing. I don't have any Somtaaw ships up yet but as you can see the Kadesh and Kushan(mostly) are up. |
| #68novemAug 18, 2009 0:17:43 | I wonder what you'd think of a fantasy/sci-fi campaign set in the Homeworld Universe, perhaps mirroring the story of Kharak to explain the low tech. I feel like 3.5 psionics and magic would fit in very well, and 3.5 always had a familiar-yet-alien feel that seems to lend itself to adaptation for such a world. I've also had thoughts about how a world with magic and psionics might evolve, how magic and technology might interrelate as time grows, and what affects this might have on ships and weapons. |
