Does anyone know where I could find a generic city map that would be useful for a d20 modern game? I know I can google "maps" and make one of my own, but I'm strapped for time these days and if someone has already got what I'm looking for, why re-invent the wheel?
Thanks for reading.

I wouldn't bother googling for maps. Google has a far neater solution...

maps.google.com

Why no real-world city is technically "generic", I am sure there must be at least one that is sufficiently unfamiliar to your players that you can file the serial numbers off with minimal difficulty.

Make sure to grab something that matches your cultural/national context, though. Cities in older parts of the world aren't built on grids, for example, while most American/Canadian cities are (outside of a few exceptions in the older parts of both countries).

Are you looking for buildings & what they are,
or just a street 'grid'.

A decent model would be Chico, CA.
It is big enough to have a bunch of stuff, yet small enough that you dont have repetitious 150 MachineShops or 200 donut shops. 5 or 10 donut shops is a managable size. It also does a good job of delineating Residential from Comercial area. Racetrack, University, brewery, airports, industry, national guard... covers a lot of the bases.

Honestly I could have sworn that I have seen a city map broken down by districts overlaying a street grid posted here on this board. I am looking for something like that.
I know I could find a map online and break it down myself, but like I said, I don't really have the time right now.

Find a map of a Grand Theft Auto game and erase the labels.

Seriously, San Andreas has paid for itself three times over doing stuff like this.
