| #1dakkonnFeb 01, 2012 11:08:58 | I am currently playing a D20 Modern Campaign (Urban Arcana) in which my character got "involved" with a drow, not just any drow but the (at that time) current leader of the drow (Yeah, I know) Anyways I'll get to the point, I need help in that she is currently being held captive by the "new" leader her sister. I basically need ANY nerd knowledge on Drow Law If such a thing even exists. Basically I want to get the NPC out or back in power without having to fight the 2000+ drow and the entire Corsone syndicate. (The short version is the new drow leader partnered up with the Illithid leader of The Corsone syndicate to take over) Now I have a few options, as long as the GM doesn't shoot them down just cause he wants his girl friends NPC to auto win, she's going out with the Illithid leader that the "new" drow leader teamed up with. (this campaigns been weird to say the least) Anyways I have made ties and have favors owed by the largest vampire organization, a gorgon, Section 7, A white dragon and his paladins plus a few other high player NPC's in this world. So I have a decent "army" if need be, but that is my last resort. I would like to get her out without a fight, or with just a 1v1 challenge if I could. An all out fight not only means I would most likely have to fight 1-3 other party members but NPC's that my character doesn't want to kill but will if he must to get his wife out of the wall she is currently being held in. The short recap.... I need help finding a legal loop hole in drow law/leadership that will allow me to challenge for the right to get someone out of "jail" without having to commit an all out war. (preferably without having to assassinate the current leader) The fact is I just don't know enough about Drow in general when it comes to Urban Arcana. So I guess I'm asking does the collective knowledge of this D&D Nerd pool (said will nothing but love) have any knowledge from any D&D books or Novels or Anything really that I can use as reference in trying to make a better case (or plans) to help me out? Just give me a direction or a place to start (other than google :P already hit that up) I'll take anything as long as it gives me a starting point. |

It's not uncommon in drow society for siblings to 'remove' older ones so that they may take on higher positions. Does the new leader require something very specific and important done, that you just so happen to possess the necessary skills for? Perform said action in exchange for drow's release. Find a portable hole and break her out? Hire mercenaries and plant evidence that a rival hired them to break out the one drow or assassinate the leader. Could use that as a distraction as you break her out? Drow generally respect power, cunning, stealth, treachery, chaos and the like. They like games too. And money. Best legal loophole.. do whatever you have to, don't get caught. |
| #3dakkonnFeb 01, 2012 16:13:32 | Fair enough. That's about what I had envisioned in my "any of these grand elaborate plans will totally work out perfectly as I have imagined" head. :P was hoping there was some kinda of blood trail that I could exploit to 1v1 kill her or something in Drow history I didn't know. (as I am by no means a Drow expert) Now I guess it's time to see if I can start a war (without getting caught)Thank you |
| #4kronos182Feb 01, 2012 18:07:45 | don't need to start a war. a "simple" assassination usually works. much underhanded dealing, alliances made in back alleys, which are quickly betrayed to suit the needs of one party or the other. just think who can stand to win with the current leader removed, and how can you get something out of it by making them want to raise their status in a more timely manner. |
| #5dakkonnFeb 01, 2012 20:14:23 | Unfortunately I am not built for assassination, I'm a smart 3 field tech 3 solider 3 (zero stealth) that uses hand guns (+18 to hit and +7 to damage if they are within 30). I have a barrett light 50 at my disposal but since it only does 2d10 I don't think I could 1 shot the target (and one shot is all I would get). My next option is explosives which I am an expert in but the issue is getting away with it. (I E if I buy 10 pounds of C4 the week before there is a bomb a smart person will put 2&2 together) That leaves me with seeking outside help. The issue there is none of the drow will help me due to the way the story is ATM, granted I have not gotten to explore that option yet as we play this friday but I don't want to go around asking "SO who wants to help murder your leader?" Also I don't think they will want to help cause the old leader (the one I'm trying to save) got over thrown due to I was "corrupting her" (I E she was becoming a good aligned character) so 90% of the drow I was told turned on her during the coup d'état. (last 10% were all killed) I don't have any black market contacts anymore due to they were all drow or part of the corsone syndicate (who teamed up with the new drow leader for the coup d'état. So getting items I would need to plan an assassination is going to be hard without tipping someone off in either family. My last option is seeing if the vampires have an assassin I can borrow. However I would REALLY rather not burn that favor if I can help it, the leader of all the vampires in vegas owns me big but I got the impression that its a one time favor so I'd like to save that little Ace if I can help it. Anyways this is getting long. |

| #7bone_nagaFeb 02, 2012 20:21:26 | Why are you asking here? Law is a campaign-specific thing. You should instead be asking your DM what your character knows about drow law. |
| #8dakkonnFeb 03, 2012 9:49:28 | Reason I'm asking here is for various reasons. One being the GM's Girl friend's character is in "relations" with the Iliithid I need to kill to make my plan work. While she isn't to bad about metagaming one of the others there is freaken TERRIBLE about it. GM doesn't have a cell of his own so he gets MSG relayed thru girl friend whom I was talking about. So it would be kinda hard to keep her out of the loop without talking to him in person (plus they live together meaning I'd have to talk to him while she was at work but I have a job too ya know) Also I know law is usually based on the world but I needed a starting point I guess so I could be more prepared for the session tonight. He is for the most part using the world straight out of the Urban Arcana with only a few minor changes. I already had a few plans but I wanted to just get some outside thoughts on the matter before diving in. It never hurts to get someone else's thoughts on a problem they may not tell you anything new but it may cause you to rethink a few things. That and I was hoping to get lucky an there was some kinda of drow right of succession I could ask the GM about :P Cause one way or another this is either going to work perfectly or my character will die trying :P just want to get as much pre session prep done as I could. |
| #9kronos182Feb 03, 2012 15:58:55 | A related Knowledge check could help your character find a loophole or such rights of succession type of thing |
| #10dakkonnFeb 17, 2012 17:48:10 | Sigh well he (the GM) might be binding my hands on this one when I asked about trying to free her threw a knowledge check I got nothing from it except drow usually kill each other to take over leadership (already knew that and I rolled a 35) when I asked the person I am trying to save (an NPC), that I have a plan but I may have to kill a few drow to free her (including her sister) The NPC flat out told me I wasn't to harm any of them. Going to try a few other peaceful methods but every time seems my peaceful solutions keep getting shot down. I don't know if he has a plan to use this as a RP/story element later so he's trying to keep it saved/intact till then or if I'm getting punished cause during a session I didn't want to "go save the world" with everyone else so I basically stood out 80% of the session but this is the type of stuff that causes one player to kill the rest of the party over. (or die trying) |
