Trying to design a class similar in some ways to the Spec-Op or Infiltrator, but with a focus on scouting ahead for a group and clearing the way (think D&D rogue perhaps). Would appreciate comments on balance, apparent usefulness, additional ability suggestions, and perhaps builds using this class. I'm thinking a mix of Fast and Smart or Fast and Dedicated to get into this.

I want this to be the guy who sneaks down the hall, and motions his team forward when he sees that the area is clear, who will get into that locked room to look for evidence, who will take out that lone sentry quickly and quietly so his team may proceed stealthily.

Here is what I came up with thus far:

Pointman

Prereqs: BAB +4 or +5
Stealthy, Cautious
Hide 4 ranks, Move Silently 4 ranks, Disable Device 4 ranks, Open Lock 4 ranks, Spot 4 ranks
Special: must have 1 second level class feature from any of: Solder, Inflitrator, Martial Artist, Techie or Investigator

How do the prereqs look? I want the class to not be too easy to get into, but not so stupidly difficult as the Spec-Op, which makes it very difficult to have any actual combat ability due to the number of non-combat feats required

BAB: Good
Fort: Poor
Reflex: Good
Will: Poor
Defense: Good (ala Sniper)
Reputation: Poor (+1 over 5 levels)
Hit die: d6 or d8
Skills points/level: 7+Int
Class skills: Hide, Move Silently, Spot, Listen, Search, Disable Device, Investigate (maybe), Computer Use (maybe), and I don't know what else. Maybe Tumble and Climb?

1. Stealth Attack
2. Infiltration Specialist, Bonus Feat
3. Midnight Prowler
4. Shock and Awe, Bonus Feat
5. Pinpoint Accuracy

Stealth Attack - If a Pointman hits an unaware opponent with a melee weapon, or with a ranged weapon from no more than 30' away, the save DC to resist massive Damage increases by twice the Pointman's class level. [similar to Sniper ability, but with restrictions]

Infiltration Specialist - A Pointman's job is to clear the way for his team, whether removing enemy threats or their security. He gains a +3 bonus on Disable Device and Open Lock checks. [+3 over +2 mostly because the DCs for this stuff are VERY high...would like to bump to +4 or +5 but not sure how that would balance--maybe change to add class level on these skills?]

Midnight Prowler - A Pointman may Hide even while being observed so long as he is within 5 ft. of a shadowy area. He also gains a +2 bonus on Move Silently. [taken from the Assassin and Shadowdancer PrCs from D&D 3.5--doesn't seem game-breaking]

Shock and Awe - +4 Initiative, +5 ft. movement [perhaps replace this with something else]

Pinpoint Accuracy - If a Pointman scores a critical hit against a taget for whom his Stealth Attack would apply, the save DC increases by a further 2, and the target cannot speak for 1 round. [first part because I got annoyed when my lvl 12 Sniper would hit something with a Critical Shot, and nothing much seemed to change; the second yoinked from Spec-Op but with fewer restrictions/different restrictions--don't actually like this ability, but first thing that occurred to me]

It looks interesting. If you have the possibility, look at the Recon Training Advanced Class from Blood & Guts : Military Training Manual. It's what you wan't IMO. It's also great for building a military character.
