little ideas to add to the setting...

as I play d20 modern I get some ideas now and again on how to add new stuff (since WOTC sure as hell ain't)

for example:

new group: Lunar Club

Background: When Lycanthropsy appeared on US soil it was always in small backwards places. That changed after WW2 The Nazi's always keen on doing stupid things with "powers man was never meant to know" attempted a Wuffen Soldat program. As always it bit them in the backside and never worked. The camps where this was being preformed were eventually liberated by allied forces. They did not realize mixed in with the multitude of Jewish and Gypsy prisioners were a few with an unearthly affliction. More than one GI or russian conscript was bitten or scratched.

The Lunar Club started after a number of returning GI's realized their affliction and being proactive started a small club to explain away why they dissapeared every so often. Department 7 took notice and took steps to steer the club in the right direction. They became a Pressure Release for the US Lycan population. Taking new infectiees under their wing, and dealing with any who got far too out of hand.

The group's motives have changed little since their founding, but their methods do changed from time to time. With the increase in survaliance technology, they are much more on their guard about "Wolfing-out" and the younger generation chaffs at these restrictions, a few are mumbling about going public, but that's not happened yet. The younger wolves are more than happy to scrap with the Sons of Hexxor for the time being.

Alinment: CG

Motives: Their philophy is that the Wolf is simply that savage nature humans have brought to the forefront by shadow. Not somthing to be feared, or hated, to the Lunar Club it's somthing to be learned, understood, and if you keep your head about you, enjoyed. Most are content with riding, drinking, and blowing off steam, but solitary chapters providing muscle for less than legal orgnizations is not unheard of. To them the change is not something you can control, but you do have a choice when the moon rises, either take it by the reins and enjoy the ride, deny it and watch your life fall apart, or give completely in and become less than human.

Orgnization: to Mundanes they look like a biker gang, albiet they have a better reputation than most. That being said the chapter houses are semi-independent, each overseen by the oldest and strongest.

next post: Troglidites & other lovecraft stuff

oh and everyone is good to post, if I ever figure out the wiki, I might add these there. in mine Some of the Lovecraftien monsters in D20 modern are just that, Lovecraft wrote about them and while he embelished the tales, the creatures do indeed exist. Though modern man with his mix of pop culture, easily accessed information, and lots of strange movies is desensitized to their sanity blasting affects. we came up with chibithulu after all....

Trogs: while they did not elaborate in the book Trogs are more unpleasent than simply, "frog Fishes" they were responsible for the Innsmouth incident in the 20s written about by Hp Lovecraft though he overexadratde. Trogs simply cannot repodouce, they have a genetic defect that causes sterility. In other words they require other species as a medium to breed, the result is a species of half-imbred fish men that have to bribe, raid, and sneak their way to success. In Lovecraft's day people would have been both appaled and terrified of this species, modern man is just appaled and is much more organized in response. While Trogs claim to be able to wipe out humanity, they are uncoordinated and do not comprehend how far humanity has come in the 20th and 21st century. They live for hundreds of years and few realize that where they had the numarical advantage, humans now have technology and numbers in their corner. most of them still think of humans at a WW1 level of technology and idology. Their sales pitch is ringing more hollow when compared with human marvals.

The Trogs are dying and too blind to see it.

Mind flayers: Lovecraft was actually influenced by one residing in a Rhode Island aslyem, when the flayer was given electroshock therapy and died, Lovecraft's writings slowed down. you want to see into the mind of a flayer, read his books.

These are some great additions, I appreciate the effort you put in.

Don't discouraged by the general lack of reply though, I personally appreciate the effort. If you'd like I might post some of my own stuff here.

Of course, this is only if you want.

Doctor out.

Thanks, everyone feel free to post your ideas, as long as you keep them civil.

since I explained the lunar club for were-wolves, I might as well do a bit for vamps.

Red Star Aftershocks: the Soviet Union was known for hypocracy, military agression, a rather good circus, and willingness to do crazy/stupid experiments just as the Nazis did. Like Lycanthropes, various vampire sub-species were driven into hiding, or destroyed during the middle ages, and were forced back to the surface in WW1 then almost exposed by the nazis when they started WW2. While there have always been a small number of vampires in the US, Western Europe, and Africa. The majority of the population was in eastern europe hiding among the nobility or in long abandoned graveyards. The Vampire of Eastern Europe preyed upon both the Red Army and German Military. Commisart Order 179 declared that any Commisar witnissing such "super-natural happenings" was to kill the vampire then kill all witnesses. one third of all exicuted by the commisariat were actually witnesses to vampires, hags, orgres, Lycanthropes, or magic. Those vamps that supressed their bloodthirst long enough blended in with refugees, and fled into the vast emptyness of Russia.

The Party maintained that such things were folklore, superstisions used to keep people in line, thus to be ignored and disproven by "enlightened science" this did not stop the KGB from trying to harness what it could and destroy what it couldn't. Those found to be vampire were either killed or sent to the gulag. others survived in small siberan towns up near the artic circle.

then the Union collapsed...

Nothing good came from the Soviet Mythic Experiments, and now in the emptyness of russia far from the cities and towns, dark creatures worse than vampire exist, just as they did during the dark ages.

after the collapse of the USSR many Russians emigrated to the United States, the Vampires and Mythic creatures of their homeland were not far behind, in the 90s they fought with the local vampire population. Red Star Vamps are often be found in Russian Mobs, sitting as advisor to the don. Hunters Call them Red Star Vamps because they are a moere brutal, more crafty type of vampire.

Western vampires have gone soft over the years, this is why cheezy books like Twilight have come out. They listen to their own proppaganda, and thus the newer vamps try to be more human, more romantic, than in the past. RSVs never went soft. The rise in seral killer, and human trafficking cases in the US can be linked to RSVs. RSVs were systematicly De-Fanged by KGB in an attempt to intrigrate them into Soviet socity. As a result, they must rip the victim's throat out.

No romance, no remors, just feral intelligence, strengh, and inhuman hunger. some of them remember and were influenced by Soviet proppaganda. which may be why they take a sadistic glee in targeting westerners.

my take on a Vampire depends on it's origin, Western Vamps are more crafty, and can more easily pass for human. The African Vampire strain resemble a ghoul, and are more often called BloodJunkies because of their skinny appearance, and their need to feed more often. Red Stars are the Brutes of the Vampire world, more akin to a jack the ripper/Russian mobster combo. Chinese vamps are unique because though they are physically weaker, they are often trained in the Arcane and can drain a person's blood from afar, bigger the cut, bigger damage their drain does.

phew done
