I need some ideas to make this work. Here is the basic idea:

1. They actually use the cards to battle
2. players dont actually do much (if any) Fighting with weapons
3. Life points are HP

any other ideas or tips?

make a wizard, specialize in Conjuration and Charm. Ask your GM for a modification on your spell casting components to be card based. Do it that way and you're pretty close.

"I play Augment Summoning, increasing my monsters' attack and defence points by 400 points!"

Something like that?

It's already possible to bind bone devils into cards, and release them with the command word "I play Summoned Skull!" The original Egyptian guys had to do a lot of binding, and unless Duel Monsters is widespread in your setting, you will too.

I would get rid of the awkward Faux-Magic-The-Gathering play lingo. Even in the series I felt a lot of the drama was far too forced and the whole "I explain everything I do in painful detail" approach to be a detriment to the script.

This is especially true if you're going to be using it in the context that is not just a card game tournament.

Actually, most shonen anime/manga characters explain what they do, even if it's just a particularly strong punch ("I channel my power into my fist, then expel it at the point of impact...")

yeah, that's part of the reason I had to stop reading shonen mangas. That's why I kinda liked the approach "Streetfighter: The After Years" took when it came to some of the characters.

Dahlsim: What's your special power?
Balrog: I punch people REALLY REALLY hard.
