| #1thedarkness1979Dec 22, 2007 9:58:39 | is a military city in a zombie campaign a good idea or bad? |
| #2azisienDec 22, 2007 10:19:42 | It seems borderline necessary for the survival of the human race, really. That would depend on the specifics of the zombie apocolypse, like are 99.5% of the Earth's population now flesh-eating zombies, etc etc. But if so, then yes, I'd say it's a good idea. Though 'city' is a term used for bigger places often. I don't think it'd be too big. I would prefer the term "Fortress." |
| #3thedarkness1979Dec 22, 2007 11:02:50 | alright yeah thanks when the campaign starts the its 3 years into the initial invasion so that would work thanks |
| #4backstabbistDec 22, 2007 14:31:19 | Citadel, fortress seems to have a smaller or singular perception about it. Sure there could very well be military -Posts & OutPosts of platoon to company levels -Bases of companies & battalions -Camps like bases, but you might keep refugees protected there -Fortress could be as small as a platoon or big enough for a few companies in a really big castle, but I get visions of a singular massive walled military building not so much town/city like -Forts (FtApache, FtDix/FtPolk) can be a short battalion to a few brigades, and be just a fortress or a really huge fenced nml/KillZone protected by the fort -Citadel implies the inclusion of civilians inside the fortified & walled city/fort I would use the term Citadel for the place Judge Dredd lived: Walled city with defensive forces already within. |
| #5thedarkness1979Dec 22, 2007 17:24:13 | alright a citadel it is im thinking on letting my pcs having air strikes eventually is that a bad idea? |
| #6fishalamode25Dec 23, 2007 7:07:42 | alright a citadel it is im thinking on letting my pcs having air strikes eventually is that a bad idea? How wide spread is your zombie infestation? If it is a localized or regional infection, you would still have plenty of resources available to you. If it is planetary - resources could be very tight, from the fact that most people who would be generating resources are dead or have taken refuge. I personally would not let it be an option unless your game world is rich in resources - and if it is an option I would make it a rare or unreliable option. Nothing like calling in an air strike and have them miss by twenty five yards. . . My PC's were very happy to hear a mobile infantry group was on their way to help them out - made big plans expecting apc's and heavy weapons - imagine their ire when a couple of handfuls of soldiers on bicycles showed up. . . |
| #7thedarkness1979Dec 26, 2007 8:45:57 | yeah the infection is worldwide now |
| #8octavian_5Dec 26, 2007 12:09:25 | Being an, ahem, specialist in zombie apocalypse campaigns, I believe I could help. Are these zombies the classic Romeroian/ Brooksian? In ohter words, do they have a cruising speed of 3/4s MPH tops? Can they only be destroyed through brain trauma? |
| #9thedarkness1979Dec 26, 2007 12:43:32 | yeah all of the zombies die from any wound that hurts the brain alot but im having some fast ones like from dawn of the dead |
| #10uselesswizardDec 26, 2007 22:13:51 | My impressions of zombie attack settings is that the only way for humanity to survive is through a militaristic style of government where democracy has little effect on the governing of the survivors, and the group is governed by a small group of charasmatic individuals who rule by trust and sometimes ruthless determination. Likely places that such groups would use are military bases, prisons, possibly hospitals, and other such locations with strong walls and buildings that are defensable and probably already flush with supplies and generators. One great example of this is the graphic novels "The Walking Dead". |
| #11thedarkness1979Dec 26, 2007 23:26:16 | yeah i totally agree with you my pcs are set in a military city and they have to settle new outposts and bases and possibly cities |
| #12RagitsuDec 26, 2007 23:35:47 | ![]() This campaign has much potential - just throw in some APCs and Harriers for them to tool around in every now and again. ![]() |
| #13thedarkness1979Dec 26, 2007 23:38:35 | yeah thanks this will be my first time dming though so im kinda bad at it can u help me out? |
| #14thedarkness1979Dec 26, 2007 23:44:29 | in the campaign im considering letting the pcs get tanks and helicopters ect basically the whole military. im also considering some of the pcs are immune others arent and some can mutate good idea? |
| #15octavian_5Dec 29, 2007 14:36:25 | yeah all of the zombies die from any wound that hurts the brain alot but im having some fast ones like from dawn of the dead Alrighty then. If brain trauma is their only real weakness, then things such as airstrikes are an utter waste. Consider this: if your goal is to destroy or damage the brain, then the chances a a peice of shrapnel, even millions of peices of shrapnel, are astronomically small. Same goes for fragmentation grenades. All they lead to is a crippled zombie. Also, going back to airstrikes, the normal effects of high-explosives (other than shrapnel) don't effect zombies (at least not the "classic" zombies). First is the "Balloon Effect." This is where the water in the human body expands due to the concussive force of the explosion, causing said body to burst like a balloon. Second, the same concussive force seriously damages the human nervous system. This damage causes the nervous system, and therefore the entire body, to shut down. in the campaign im considering letting the pcs get tanks and helicopters ect basically the whole military. im also considering some of the pcs are immune others arent and some can mutate good idea? Tanks: See above. Unless you have fletchette shells or scatter shells, tanks are worthless...Except for the MG...Or if they're Riot Tanks, as in the kind with water cannons. Said water cannons can be used to push back zombies, and possibly break bones. Helicopters: Once again, see the section on airstrikes. However, using choppers as transport is alright. As for your last point, this is personal preference. IMHO, no one is immune. If a PC gets bitten (or however the virus is spread, if it is a virus), I'd have them make Fortitude Saves every day, starting at DC 10, and increasing by 1 every day. Fail 3 saves in a row, and you're reduced to one of the shambling hordes. DISCLAIMER!: Keep in mind that the above opinions are just that: opinions. They reflect how the author beleives this style of campaign should be done, and that is all. What is not an opinion (to me, anyway), is that this campaign does have promise. |
| #16thedarkness1979Dec 29, 2007 16:18:04 | alright u do make a point but im probably gonna change the zombie cause the classic zombie is kinda lame im just gonna make a mixture of zombies into a super zombie race |
| #17kelvic_dupJul 02, 2008 3:12:12 | Well technicly speacking if a zombe was hit by the dart the body and therfor brain would be gon but that is just a waste as the dart was made for anti-armor. same for the HE round that would cause multiple kills from the radious and the bodie does not go ballon when hit with a grenade. But that depends on the grenade. Frags would be a common choice as the cause massive damage and often blow off limbs even if it does not kill the zombie it would be crippled easily alowing the PC to deal with it in there own time. Airstrikes huh well you would have to be more specific as there are a great many of them to choose from as the UH130 Gunship (Specter) that has multiple weapons and can lay down some heave support and destoy almost anything, thean you have the carpet bombing, Fule Air Bomb (really fun and not a nuke so no radiation to hurt the PCs YAY), than there is also just straifing runs that can be done bu helos or other aircraft. As for that vehicles there may be a problume you might not have thought of or it just sliped your mind gas if the world is overrun and the PCs are in a fortress or citidel eventualy they would run low on supplies and also gas if they have to power vehicles, generators etc etc. even with raids into "no mans land" they would exaust the fule supply in only a few years and would have to venture farther to resupply there stocks. Also other survivors that are not to friendly, religious nuts, and of cours all those flesh bags in the middle. but ya they are fun games once everything is worked out. |
| #18doomsoughtJul 02, 2008 21:22:16 | Half-tracks: yes and more yes. the good old WW2 half-tracks have multi fuel injectors, so any thing that burns works for fuel. second because the most common armament is the fifty ca.l water cooled quad mount. The quad-mount is known as a meat chopper, little imagination is needed to know why it would be good when dealing with zombies. Water cooled machine guns fire as long as there is coolant. Pit traps: the good old ditch and wall will work great against zombies, they can't jump or plan a way up. Feudalism: modern politicians are a bit too self centered and slow to act. good old warlords will do just fine though. Fascism: same as above but a bit more "modern" mind set. I mean real fascism, look it up. Nukes: some idiots will panic as all goes to hell. so there will be quite a few dead zones where even zombies are not. | #19para_gunnerJul 08, 2008 2:15:24 | islands are better ![]() i once ran a zombie campaign wherein the PC had control of liberty island - and were attempting to keep the torch of hummanity burning from this last bastion worked quite well too - esp as one of the groups first ideas was to add ellis island and plum island to thier ` domain ` and use them for aggriculture only the campaign to retake plum island was great - as it allowed me to introduce the PCs to the fact that the US govt knew far more about the origin ect of the zombie rise than it had ever admitted too i just used all the conspiracy theories about the labs on plum island and ` sexed it up ` it also put them on the path to finding a cure / solution if you do not like new york - use alcatraz - it was my first choice - but my players wanted new york |
