a couple of melee weapons most of which were not exactly designed for melee fighting but would still work.

#1
Wall stapler (the construction type used to staple drywall to studs)
combo of bludgeoning/piercing damage, but how much on each not sure, as well as if the staple would continue doing damage...
#2
nail gun
same problem
and finally
the cat
literally can be used as a range weapon and yes i am talking a housecat
(i know peta and the aspca would not approve but hey it came up) how much of each damage
please let me know thanks.

didnt we stat up Cats in the Armouire (armoure.... armraux??? frickin wardobe) thread

I'd stat up the nailguns as high pen but low damage & depth:
Give it something like AP5 against Armor/Hardness/DR
but just 1d3 actual max damage, 2d3 DTap

For cinematic effect, we can come up with Floor Stapled DCs to nail his foot to the floor, hand to the wall, arm to his chest etc

I'd say staple gun does 1d4 bludgeoning + 1 piercing (staples aren't that big.) It's almost like using a double weapon, kinda...
Nail gun should do piercing, maybe 1d6?
Cat performs its usual attacks when used as a thrown weapon, but I think it should come with a pretty close range increment - 10ft - since they squirm a lot.
These are just my initial thoughts without going into the books.

Interesting scenario
Monster inside spell check proof furniture readies action to jump out on approaching man with gun when he opens the door...
Man with gun readies an action to shoot anything that jumps out of said spell check proof furniture.
Man with gun opens door and ……..who does what first???
Man triggers monsters action with gun opening the door so it jumps out, but man with guns action is triggered by monsters triggered action.

I think monster should have just kidnapped annoying kid neighbor and used him as a thrown weapon /body shield.
On a related note, how much damage would a cat (as am improvised weapon) do?

backstabbist, 01-29-07, 10:40 AM
A dead cat thrown at an opponant would be 1d3 Blunt
A live cat thrown at a guy's face after you yank its tail 3 times... that would be 7d6 Slashing NoSave

Or would it be a Hireling/Ally instead of Equipment?

10d6 if it's Greebo. :P

What is Greebo?

What happens if you pull 4 times? Is it then save or die (then again, in modern, 7d6 is save or die)? Or does it kill the user?

Cats work for cheap, too. Feed it two or three times, then fire and forget.

Actually, I knew a guy who got locked into a locker once... he was bored in class, and decided to take a nap in a locker, and somebody locked him in. He hasn't been eliminated from the gene pool yet (that I know of).

You could have them both roll initiative to see who manages to get the first action in.

boogyman, 01-29-07, 08:55 PM
Ok on a serious note. Its a DC 15 wisdom check to not shoot it plus the cat would here the guy with the gun and make a readied action to run like hell.

As for cat damage. 1d3 nonlethal bludgeoning or 10d6 points of slashing damage and a DC 30 fort save or be blinded.

Ack, 01-29-07, 10:32 PM
Greebo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greebo)

Of course, all this presumes that there is enough room to swing a cat.

Are cats a reach weapon? :P

boogyman, 01-29-07, 10:41 PM
of course it has reach. you need room to swing a cat.

Man with gun opens door and ……..who does what first???
Man triggers monsters action with gun opening the door so it jumps out, but man with guns action is triggered by monsters triggered action.

The actions would go like this:

- Man opens door.
- Thing jumps out to attack.
- Moving triggers attack of the man. Resolve man's attack.
- Thing then completes its move and attack.

joekap, 01-31-07, 04:31 PM
of course it has reach. you need room to swing a cat.

actually you only need about 6meters(diamiter) to swing a cat. as per an episode of brainiac on the G4 network. yes they actually mesured how much room you need to swing a cat. it is about the same as swinging a one handed wep. so no it would not have reach.

boogyman, 01-31-07, 06:21 PM
ah well. its a heat seeking weapon anyway. yank tail and step back
also a 3m radius is 10ft so it could be used as a reach weapon

Weretiger, 01-31-07, 07:43 PM
I don't know... I'd think of a cat as something like a +5 vorpal keen dancing flail that deals slashing and piercing damage (somehow)... or the same enchantment on sword-chucks:P .
A cat (held by the tail, I presume, because most of the pointies are on the other end) is a bit longer than a nunchuck... but not that much longer. And even if it is capable of reach, a cat can definitely be used against adjacent enemies...

I'm curious, did the G4 people also test other weapons for comparison?

Heat-seeking? I suppose on cold days... but a more reliable method for turning the cat into a homing weapon might be to cover the target in catnip... produce catnip oil as any other herb oil, then put in supersoaker.... or just build catnip grenades. Or get adjacent to your target, then use an epic use of Sleight of Hand/Pickpocket to put a large amount of nip into your target's pockets as a free action. Then let the cat out of the kennel and watch as it deals more damage than a nuke in Future...

backstabbist, 01-31-07, 09:32 PM
- Man opens door.
- Thing jumps out to attack.
- Moving triggers attack of the man. Resolve man's attack.
- Thing then completes its move and attack.

Man opens door on his turn
Cat uses Readied action to attack anything opening the door, interutping Mans turn
Man interrupts his own turn with his readied action to shoot anything jumping out
Cat gets to precede the interrupt of the interrupt of the cat, with an AoO on the gun in melee combat guy... seems the guy should have readied a 5'Stepback ALONG WITH the shot

Ack, 01-31-07, 11:35 PM
How to turn cat into ranged heat-seeking weapon:

Dose cat with testosterone (for aggression), adrenaline (for energy) and marijuana (for the munchies).

Spray a catnip solution over target.

Release cat.

Take out camcorder and record for later release on "Funniest Home Videos".

boogyman, 02-01-07, 03:07 AM
that's gold.
Despite the fact that i am at war with you over your combat system I have to say that is the funniest thing i've read on here recently

joekap, 02-01-07, 03:57 PM
Sorry I wrote 6 meters when I meant to write 3 meters (around 6 feet). The total area around you that can be struck by swinging a cat.
yes it is about the same as swinging a spikey screaming 1 handed flail.
A cat’s range increment would only be like 5 ft cuz when you throw them they flail around and it seems to diminish the aerodynamics of said cat. Now if you grab them by their hind legs or tail and get a good 2-spin hammer toss they fly much farther you just lose a lot of accuracy. (Not that I know this cuz I threw my roommates cat off the back deck into the neighbors pool or anything ;) )

Gldn Drgn, 02-07-07, 10:22 PM
I don't think that cat does that much damage, at once.

a bite, 2 claw attacks and a rake. Bite 1d3, claws 1d4 per, if one claw hits rake for 2d4, if both hit rake for 4d4. Nad this a thrown weapon. Swinging the cat just gets one maybe 2 claws at 1d6.

BUt step back and include everything,
Man approaches shaking CLOSET/CABINET, with his gadgeted maglight gun.
Something jumps out, he has a readied action and fires.
The something attacks from melee, the guy has an AOO w/ the Gadgeted Gun.
Then the something does the touch attack to football style tackle the guy.
Then a grapple w/ a free trip.

OK, I would shoot through the CLOSET door, and make my regrets later. Or if I was inside I would hide and hope no one SHOOTs through the door.

Now there are a whole slew of battery operated power tools. From circular saws to tree trimmers (reach weapons), reciprocating saws and power drills.

There are also powder actuated nail drivers which use .22 rimfire blanks to sink nails into concrete. Hilti makes semiautomatic ones that are the Shizniz.

There are your traditional gas powered tools, chainsaw, weedwhacker (with steel brush blade instead of nylon cord), and a power blower filled with bees!

Sadly, as a kid I would leaf through the sears catalog and decide what I would really need to survive the zombie apocalypse. That was two decades ago.

Why not upgrade a hot glue gun to a HotGlue Machinegun?

You guys need to put out a .pdf book of weapon stats for this stuff. Call it "The Toolshed."

ok we'll start the .pdf version of the toolshed. everybody get the tools out we'll have to test them for damage levels as well as survivability (the plastic lines on the grass cutter would survive a couple of hours while the metal ones are near infinite provided no armor...) i'll start writing them down and place it in the .pdf in a couple weeks when we get all the tools writen down and damage decided.

ok?

The Tooshed would be the perfect add-on to a zombie game. But as we have recently learned, don't post the stats directly on this board! Then Wizards owns them. Post only via outside links.

ok, the legal basis on this is simple. even if we put the tools on another website, as wizards owns the game on which they are used, you can't make any money on it without wizards of the coast written permission. that is the problem. so even if we all put the stuff on other websites, what other system can we use it on besides D20?

That is the problem that the lawyers know can lock stuff to this website even from other sites. legal loopholes suck but it is the way that this works.
oh well.

This is not true. People make OGL books all the time and make money on them. That's the foundation of the third party pubilshers. You can stat out your weapons, print them in a book and sell them anywhere and Wizards does not own them. Anything you create, even if it is designed to be used with the D20 system, is still your content.

The difference is that if you print it here you are giving permission to wizards to use it by that act.
