2. Is there any weapon or a way to get triple damage on a crit?
3. Are there any suggestions for ranged attacks as far as damge goes? |

Any plan that relies on a getting a Crit, is a bad plan
Jimmy: I'll sneak up to that guard and knock him out BigAl: You couldnt knock out a housecat, how you gonna take out a guard? Jimmy: I'll get a crit, that'll do it Princess: So the whole evening's plans are based on a Step #1 with a 90% failure odds .
3. More ranged damage:
Use a bigger gun.
If you ned to kill a rabbit, use a rabbit gun. if you need to kill a coyote, use a carbine If you need to kill deer, use a deer rifle. If you ned to kill a moose, use a moose rifle. If you need to kill an elephant, use an elephant rifle
The problem is, in game, BadGuy rifle comes after Elephant gun, cause badguys are harder to kill with a bullet.
however, in d20Modern we dont kill 200hp people with guns, we MAS them unconcious with a single 2d8 bullet to their 12con... that 200hp guy fails his MAS and hits the floor unconcious with 13hp gone from the bullet & 187hp gone by failing his MAS.
Looking at a standard rifle, 30-06/7mm/300/8mm/303 does 2d10 looking at the standard CON score of 10, which folks pump up to 14 or 16, a 16-20damage shot from a 2d10 m1 Garand or Enfield or Mauser will force MAS save on guys with 10-16 CONs
By using the DoubleTap feat, the Garand damage goes up to 3d10... still vs just that typical 10-16CON.
The problem is not to do more damage, the problem is to make the MAS Save a tougher DC for the guy hit by a 16damage shot |

Thanks for the info, and single shot(only hold one bullet) weapons are not all that useful, and over priced. Would that also be correct?
PS: Another question
It seems that the purchase DC is the same for Raw materials for poison as it is for one dose of the poison that is already made. Is that correct, and if so why would I ever want to buy the materials when I can buy it already made? If its incorrect how do I figure the Raw materials purchace DC as opposed to the DC to buy it already made. |
| #5TheRealOrionNov 11, 2009 1:51:08 | The logic in d20M is that it is as expensive, if not cheaper, to buy something in a store than it is to make it yourself because in the modern world, we have manufacturing on a mass scale. That's why so few people make stuff themselves. |
| #6backstabbistNov 11, 2009 8:02:28 | not all single shot weapons are useless, the Towed 105Howitzer is a pretty handy 'single shot' gun

Do they really have that listed as a "gun", and if so what book is it in.

| #8backstabbistNov 11, 2009 12:48:33 | mSRD online has the 120mm Rhinemetall (5"gun) listed as 10d12,
check the Abrams weapon data at the botom of the EquipVehic srd
Of course, just like they did with the 50BMG, they set the top number without consideration to the gimp that puts onthe rest of the scale: If the 120 is 10d12, then what is the 105mm? ... and the 88Tiger? the 76 Wolverive vs the 75 Sherman? 57mm Pak, 40Bofors?
by setting the 120mm at 10d12, they really put the gimp on the 40Bofor and 30Avenger, not to mention the 25Bushmaster
Remember, the 120R is not just a big gun, but it can be a big shotgun too

| #9wraithstrikeFeb 06, 2010 13:50:32 | The previous D20 game never got off the ground, but now a second one is about to start. I noticed that in 3.5 the attacks bonuses start to quickly out scale AC. Does the same thing happen in modern, making the defense bonus pretty much useless later on? |
