I was looking at the Occultist advanced class last night, and I found myself a bit puzzled by one aspect of it.  Specifically, it's this line from the Shadow Contact class feature: The Shadow creature will provide information or other minor assistance as though its attitude toward the Occultist were friendly The basic concept is simple.  The Occultist has an inside man (or inside monster, as the case may be) who can serve as an informant.  The problem is in the details.  The creature provides the Occultist with information, but the kind of creatures that could serve as contacts (gnolls, goblins, kobolds, etc.) don't have any Knowledge ranks or anything, so I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what on Earth they would know and what kind of information an Occultist would actually gain from the contact. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
