Is it possible for non-psion classed characters to get psionic powers, like what was allowed in 1st edition?

Under standard rules, you can choose the Wild Talent feat. It allows you to use one level 0 psion power three times a day.

If you're the GM, you could consider allowing your players to take individual psionic powers, or sets of powers, as feats. Their psi-points could be equal to their intelligence score or something to that effect.

How's that sound?

Psionic powers as feats is an interesting idea. Someone else is currently DMing but when I am up, I plan on using psionics.

The 'wild talent' feat is open to anyone (?) but it does not give you access to a psionic talent, correct???

That was a great post!

I made a system for it, and redid Psionics/Magic for the most part. I'd post it all here, but I'm hanging onto it for a possible publishing and such.

The Wild Talent feat is covered on pg.362 of the core rulebook, and in the Feats section of the MSRD.
The feat is only allowed in games with psionics (obviously) and is often times regulated depending on how many psions the GM wants. It's primary use is as a prerequisite to psionic classes, though there are a few cases in which the power you select could be of some use.
That was a great post!

I do my best.

Thanks again.

I'll look that up in srd.

If you're going to do psionics as feats, then why not spells as feats? Obviously, you can have psi in a game without magic, but my point is that it's a fundamentally different way to play the game. That's not bad, by any means, but it changes the way things work. You'll end up with a lot more people with psi powers (because why wouldn't you burn a feat on F/X instead of a +4 to Initiative?), and very few people taking the psi classes. If you want to just dabble in psi, you can, under the RAW, just multi-class it (Charismatic/Negotiator/Psion or something like that). Options abound.

I'd be curious to see whatever you come up with, though, with regard to a feat-based system. Could be a lot of fun if you want to run a psi-heavy game.

Right now, I am trying to get the other people in the group to try psionics, prove that psionics and are not as complicated or overpowering as it was in 2nd edition.

"If you want to just dabble in psi, you can, under the RAW, just multi-class it (Charismatic/Negotiator/Psion or something like that). Options abound."

I am not familiar with the above.

Having each character start with one minor psionic ability and points based off their intelligence seems like a good way to start. Please add your suggestions. I am willing to other options.

I appreciate the time from everyone who has posted.

Not familiar? You just multi-class in. Take a Base class, then go into a Psi class or mix a Psi class with something else. What's not to get? I'm confused.

I am not familiar with "charismatic."

I meant a Charismatic Hero, the Base Class:

To avoid having to make some houserules that may or may not be balanced, I'd suggest you listen to Orion and multiclass into telepath or battlemind.

I'd suggest telepath, though, because the powers seem more potent and don't require you to have 16's all around.

I would like to include all the players. I was going to give everyone a minor psionic ability to get the players familiar with them. I thought there might be a way to do it for non-psionic characters similar to 1st edition.

Oh, okay. Then give out Wildtalent. Problem solved. Everybody gets a small bit o' psi to play with.

Wild Talent is pathetic... and only really worth taking if A: psionics are rare/unkown and have the side-effect of freaking out enemies... or B: you're moving on your way to a psionic class.

As a freebie, I guess it's okay, though.

I personally really like Ken Hood's Skills and Feats Psionics System

I also really enjoy his Martial Arts system. They blend together very well, too.

Can a psionic class or prc be made into a fighter that would be equaly strong for 12th level?
