| #2DwarfFighterMar 30, 2011 6:33:31 | Remain Conscious: The Tough hero gains the ability to continue to perform actions when he or she would otherwise be considered unconscious and dying. When the Tough hero’s hit points reach –1, the hero can perform as though he or she were disabled, making either an attack action or a move action every round until the hero reaches –10 hit points (and dies) or the hero’s hit points return to 1 or higher. The hero can choose to succumb to unconsciousness if he or she thinks that doing so might prevent him or her from taking more damage. A normal character is disabled if he reaches 0 hp. He can remain "safe" (i.e.: not lose more hp) by taking no actions. He remains conscious and aware of his surroundings. He can choose to take a move or attack action at the cost of taking 1 hp of damage. This damage will normally result in the character dropping to -1 hp and thus begin to die (see the Dying condition). The Remain Concious talent seems to kick in at exactly -1 hp. This means that the character can become disabled (0 hp), take an action and drop to -1 but still be able to take further actions. The main difference between 0 hp and is that Remain Conscious doesn't grant the option of "fainting out" at 0 hp. Notice that a failed Massive Damage Check will leave your character at -1 hp, the exact point where Remain Conscious kicks in. I can only assume that further damage from other sources will knock the character out of the disabled condition and into Dying (or Dead if the damage bring him to 10 hp or less). Regardless, while the Remain Conscious talent is in effect the character is Disabled, not Dying. He does not need to make the Fort save to stabilize. Also, he can't make a Fort save to avoid the 1 hp damage for taking an action that round. If the character opts to "faint out" he becomes Unconscius and is effectively Stable at his current hp. -DF |
