| #1ctrmannMay 15, 2008 22:56:49 | ** Keep bumping this to the top!** Same on you! Shame on you for letting us down. d20 Modern is a good system. I have read posts on here and the forum mods talk about "moving on", "letting go", or whatever it takes to make us feel better about WotC scrapping d20 Modern all together. They say they read all the posts we put out, but that is a lie. If they did d20 Modern would stay. I cannot believe that Maple Story or ΒΌ of the other games that WotC is putting together is more profitable then d20 Modern! Maybe if they put out more supplements it would be. What is even worse is that they are going to completely eliminate d20 Modern from the server soon. Like these forums take up that much room! We who play d20 Modern still need a place to talk and share ideas even if WotC will not recognize us! Shame, shame on WotC for abandoning us. CTRMann |
| #2RagitsuMay 15, 2008 23:04:51 | The core rulebook, is, ironically, it's own greatest enemy ![]() . There is simply so much you can do with this one product that it hardly necessitates the purchase of another. It's not perfect, but it's nearly fully comprehensive - the only thing I wish was in here is a section dealing with specific environments (desert, forest, plains, tundra, etc) |
| #3tema69May 16, 2008 5:07:39 | The core rulebook, is, ironically, it's own greatest enemy x2 An environment supplement would be good. |
| #4RagitsuMay 16, 2008 5:13:00 | There is Urban Arcana - do you count "urban" as an environment? :P |
| #5tema69May 16, 2008 5:50:32 | I haven't got Urban Arcana, so I wouldn't know. ;) But apart from natural environments, some Urban ones would be good too I guess. |
| #6kjakanMay 16, 2008 9:22:04 | ** Keep bumping this to the top!** Bah! : dismissive hand-wave : I've had a lot of fun with d20M, both as a GM and as a player. I've been playing it for a few years now, which actually means that as a product it is getting a bit long in the tooth. If you guys feel you can make a new d20 Modern, a better d20 Modern, then, yeah! I'd sure like to see it. -K |
| #7brokenoakleysMay 16, 2008 20:00:19 | "I'm not following you Jonesie" -American Submarine Commander in Hunt for Red October Can you enlighten us a little bit, please? Are you talking about the fact this board got moved, eliminating this board altogether, not creating a d20 modern 2e or what? |
| #8godmoneyMay 18, 2008 10:13:05 | I haven't got Urban Arcana, so I wouldn't know. ;) unfortunately... this is part of the problem... |
| #9tema69May 18, 2008 10:17:31 | unfortunately... this is part of the problem... And what problem are you referring to? |
| #10godmoneyMay 18, 2008 10:32:58 | if you dont buy the product... theyre not going to support it... |
| #11tema69May 18, 2008 10:53:41 | Well, it might be due to the fact that the people I play with don't feel the need to play a magicfilled campaign when they play d20 Modern. That's what they have D&D for. If they made a d20 Military or whatever, I'm sure they'd want it. Because that's what we like to play. But they don't . So I've bought/downloaded 3rd Party material so we can play military campaigns. And I actually don't buy the books, coz I GM at an youth club, so they buy the books, not me. We more or less get to choose the products though. |
| #12backstabbistMay 18, 2008 13:25:42 | if you dont buy the product... theyre not going to support it... That is not quite accurate. We bought d20Future. And it was bad. But rather than supporting it with FutureTech fixing the horrific problems with the base concepts, it spread Bondo over 20% of the problems, broke its own rules, and was generally a book to be bought for the sake of buying books rather than playing the book. I refuse to subscribe to the belief that we need to buy more bad books as a form or good book lottery... if we buy enough books one is bound to be good sooner or later. (good as in proof read, edited, playtested for more than 20 mins) |
| #13tema69May 18, 2008 13:32:32 | (good as in proof read, edited, playtested for more than 20 mins) quoted for truth. "...and all I got was this lousy Tshirt" came to mind. **I bought d20 Future, and all I got was this lousy FutureTech!** |
| #14trappedsliderMay 18, 2008 16:09:18 | *coughs*D20PAST*cough |
| #15nemafowMay 18, 2008 18:43:09 | I'm frankly only happy with the d20 modern rulebook and weapons locker. Besides that crappy five seven. :D |
| #16godmoneyMay 18, 2008 21:44:54 | Well, it might be due to the fact that the people I play with don't feel the need to play a magicfilled campaign when they play d20 Modern. We more or less get to choose the products though. at least someone is buying books... ![]() (side note: i think it is awesome that you do community work, which i assume is what you are doing at the youth club...???) my main issue/point is that lots and lots of times ive seen people go whacko about how wotc doesnt support modern... then when someone asks about the books that same person tells them to just download the msrd cause its got all you need in it, and you dont have to buy any books... ive spent my money on the books so i feel like i have a right **** and moan about no support... not the freeloader pushing the msrd for free... as for the msrd... i think wotc shot themselves in the foot by making it free to all... they should have required a small fee for the rules... IMO... |
| #17narukagamiMay 19, 2008 0:56:49 | I wonder if I'm the only person who remembers the fact that d20 Modern was only meant to be a showcase of the versatility of the d20 System.... |
| #18kjakanMay 19, 2008 3:39:00 | I'm frankly only happy with the d20 modern rulebook and weapons locker. The 5-7 rocks! Best gun in the books! -K |
| #19nemafowMay 19, 2008 5:20:32 | The 5-7 rocks! Best gun in the books! Bash bash bash bash bash :P |
| #20tema69May 19, 2008 5:39:25 | The 5-7 rocks! Best gun in the books! Yeah, but then you have the FN P90, 50 rounds of 2d8 damage. *I'll go bash myself now* :D (to answer Godmoney's side note: well, I wouldn't call it community work. It's just that when I was younger I loved that youth club, but there were no GMs for what I wanted to play - so I played a lot of DnD - but now that I'm older, I decided to GM some Modern stuff [I've GM'ed plenty of DnD too though] and talked to a few friends about it. And now there's like 12 people who wanna game with us. So I wouldn't exactly call it community work, but I get what you mean. ) |
| #21hinthasMay 19, 2008 10:32:42 | Hurray community efforts!!! My toy is "broke" and it doesn't do X. I could gripe but the muckity mucks already gots my cash. These forums are the perfect place to find like minded individuals that agree/disagree with what I'm saying and, if I'm nice, they might help me with my problem. Those of us who are bright (disclaimer: not before 11am and must have Mt Dew in system) might have the sense to network and seek individuals that might offer a working solution and be sure to print the solution. Add said solution (tape, staple, natural adhesive:booger) to the spot in the book that is causing the amount of grief and enjoy your modified game. I, among others, don't need a factory stock solution to any of these issues and am perfectly happy to remember that I can use whichever of the rules I feel like at that moment. I agree with Tema here. If I want something with magic, I play AD&D. Something with bullets, D20 Modern. We could all do to read some of Gygax's work on Game Mastering. Encourages "thinking outside the box" or the book in this case. Doug |
| #22trappedsliderMay 19, 2008 10:39:33 | We could all do to read some of Gygax's work on Game Mastering. Encourages "thinking outside the box" or the book in this case. How can i think outside the box,if they won't let out of it?:P |
| #23narukagamiMay 19, 2008 11:10:30 | Gygax won't be doing much thinking in his current box! ... too soon? |
| #24tema69May 19, 2008 11:30:09 | Gygax won't be doing much thinking in his current box! ![]() |
| #25hinthasMay 19, 2008 14:24:10 | Gygax won't be doing much thinking in his current box! Awwww....Stinky Numba 10!!! Although we could hope for a Transcended Ancients move or I'd settle for a short punch vs. coffin Kill Bill moment. @TrappedSlider: They won't let me NEAR the box. You get that Freak label once and it never goes away..... Doug |
| #26backstabbistMay 19, 2008 15:10:45 | I've heard of The Box. Dont recall ever being in the same vicinity of it, though. I think the relationship betwen me & The Box is best described as Indirect Fire. Example: Just because you dont see a use for a 9" SPURS warhead (Special Purpose Unconvetional: Rodent Submunition) that crosses a mountain then releases 644 Irate Hamsters on the enemy from a 200' up.... that dont mean I wont stat one up. |
| #27hinthasMay 19, 2008 16:03:41 | You ain't got a hair on your head iff'n ya don't. |
| #28tema69May 19, 2008 16:09:22 | Just because you dont see a use for a 9" SPURS warhead (Special Purpose Unconvetional: Rodent Submunition) that crosses a mountain then releases 644 Irate Hamsters on the enemy from a 200' up.... that dont mean I wont stat one up. We should make a list of this sh*t. This is right next to the AntiMedicBomb, the Mage8 Disbelief Amour, etc... ...Rodent Submunition... tsk tsk. :D |
| #29sendthasMay 19, 2008 19:21:59 | So WoTC is giving up on Modern. Then we will do exactly what everyone else will do when this forum is shut down. We will google every day until a fansite pops up with a forum and a chat room. We will still play and we will still give suggestions and share ideas through the underground grape-vine. If we have come up with so many ideas of our own (the rodent bombs and so fourth), then we can improve the game ourselves into an infinite structure of guns, classes, and adventures. WoTC is basically giving the players and GMs the wheel and letting them drive the machine of D20M on their own. |
| #30hinthasMay 19, 2008 19:38:12 | I certainly HOPE so, Sendthas. No hand holdin' necessary. Probably be even better if one of our own said, My blogsite is X. Meet me there. Then some of us won't have to be so "gentle" in what we say.![]() I know that I'm an R rated fool. Doug |
| #31lpguy26_dupMay 19, 2008 20:29:12 | Is all I've read true?? WOTC is closing down the d20 site completely??? If this is true I'm gonna have a talk with a couple of my friends... they're really good web designers and host a bunch of blogsites, forums and the like.... I'll talk to them and see if they can add a d20 forum section to one of theyre sites they've built... hell they'd use it too, they're in my D&D group. I'll post back with more info in a few days after gettin' ahold of them ![]() |
| #32trappedsliderMay 19, 2008 21:17:54 | Okay 1) D20 modern as an RPG line book wise is on hold atleast till 2009 2)The forums are not going anywhere 2a) We will however lose the subforums minus past and future (I think) 3)D20 is still going to be the egengin that runs the game along with D&D 4e |
| #33kronos182May 19, 2008 22:13:13 | I've heard of The Box. Man, that reminds me of the Care Gerbils my friend TC would keep going on.. genetically altered Gerbils.. used in all kinds of manners to kill or maim your target. Usually when they'd hit or get close to their target, they'd yell out 'I'd die for your pleasure', and had creepy grins as they came at you. He once had a MIRV stated up that would deploy about 500 to 1000 of these gerbil submunitions per missile in the warhead. I want to see 9" SPURS warhead stats now! |
| #34nadakaMay 20, 2008 9:48:50 | Right now the only thing stopping me from rewriting and (PDF) publishing d20 modern in my own image is a lack of a group I can playtest it with. |
| #35hinthasMay 20, 2008 13:02:10 | Okay Is this happening and when? Kinda makes me feel bad for starting the two Earth 2.0 threads I've started knowing they don't have a chance to live. Puts a damper on wanting to progress the storyline. |
| #36tema69May 20, 2008 13:05:57 | Is this happening and when? Kinda makes me feel bad for starting the two Earth 2.0 threads I've started knowing they don't have a chance to live. Puts a damper on wanting to progress the storyline. Why? We will lose the subforums, past and future excepted. You've made 'em in Past, so no problems. Right? |
| #37trappedsliderMay 20, 2008 13:15:56 | Is this happening and when? Kinda makes me feel bad for starting the two Earth 2.0 threads I've started knowing they don't have a chance to live. Puts a damper on wanting to progress the storyline. No clue when its gonna happen..... |
| #38hinthasMay 20, 2008 14:21:54 | Although if/when it happens, it frees up time for a work hobby I have. HASSLING NIGERIAN SCAMMERS!!! This is truly a fun sport for the Cynical. Doug |
| #39azisienMay 20, 2008 16:53:29 | I gotta say I'm feeling a damper too. d20 Modern has been one of my favourite hobbies for a few years now. I've just started making a Mass Effect campaign for the system and already based on all these threads and the horribly low traffic on the boards I'm wondering if I should even bother already. Or consider removing it from d20 Modern entirely and using another/custom system. |
| #40brokenoakleysMay 21, 2008 13:34:16 | I wonder if I'm the only person who remembers the fact that d20 Modern was only meant to be a showcase of the versatility of the d20 System.... Interesting. I'm curious. Where did you hear that? What does it mean for us? |
| #41brokenoakleysMay 21, 2008 13:35:57 | Okay Thanks for filling us in. It's kind of hard to tell exactly what is going on . |
| #42g.t._deesMay 21, 2008 19:15:22 | Gygax won't be doing much thinking in his current box! I really shouldn't be amused but... LMAO!!!! |

| #44trappedsliderMay 22, 2008 10:25:07 | here For those who are unhappy with what Community Management has done... |
| #45hinthasMay 22, 2008 12:54:57 | And I was just about to suggest that we (the community) move our traffic to the Enworld boards and let Management screwup the boards to their hearts content. But I'll remember a page from the Army that's, "Wait and See..." approach. Jury is still out on my other idea. Doug |
| #46ice_millerMay 22, 2008 14:11:46 | In support, I... BUMP. |
| #47daggerspellMay 22, 2008 14:38:20 | I think it blows that they are "letting go" of Modern, but look on the brightside. It gives us, the players and gms, a chance to really make the system our own. Obviously we can't be breaking copyright law and such, but just to homebrew the hell out of the system. |
| #48trappedsliderMay 22, 2008 15:05:17 | I think it blows that they are "letting go" of Modern, but look on the brightside. | #50backstabbistMay 22, 2008 22:22:01 | Uh, as for writing your opwn material, AFIK there is no new tollerance of it that hasnt been here all along. We could always write our own stuff.... like Blood&XXXX, right? |
| #51hellkite2501May 23, 2008 0:44:18 | it was just a show case? |
| #52natanaxMay 23, 2008 15:15:01 | I would love to see a 2nd Edition of D20 Modern, with a focus on the settings they passed over or underappreciated. We never saw a Superhero oriented expansion and D20 Past was (almost) a waste of space. They could have done so much more with the Pulp Genre, or the Sword and Flintlock Era's. *sigh* Still, with Starwars's better use of the Talent System, D20 Modern feels so out of date, yet its modular nature makes me still love it, so I would really like to see an update of the D20 Modern Classes using the more useful talent structure from Starwars. |
| #53TheRealOrionMay 23, 2008 15:45:06 | Nothing stopping any of us from making our own expansions to d20M with our favourite genres... hey look! There's one in my sig! |
| #54ctrmannMay 28, 2008 10:47:42 | **BUMP** |
| #55emissary666May 31, 2008 15:31:11 | D20 Modern would be selling more books if WotC didn't try to make it D&D with guns. Most of the books seem like they are just reflections of D&D versions or just trying to make it D&D. When people play modern they don't want to have magic or elves. They want to play a game different from the standard elf, dwarf, human, halfling party killing kobolds, goblins, and monsters. Most of our players play Modern because they are sick of greatswords and fireballs, instead wanting to reenacted "Commando" or "The Matrix". The rules are too open for players, creating a desire for new books based on what we want. We don't want another future book or another urban arcana. They already have enough campaign settings from D20 Modern, D20 Future, D20 Past, and D20 Apocalypse to broaden Modern away from Guns and Spells and into settings like Star Law, Shadow Chasers, Agents of Psi, Bughunters. D20 Modern isn't as big as D&D not only because its younger, but also because there is no reason for a player to need it. The 3.5 DMG has rules for guns in it! While most try to disagree with this statement, it is true, "D20 Modern is D&D with guns" |
| #56dopplegangsterJun 01, 2008 10:21:35 | Sorry to say, but I think WotC's style of RPG development is moving away from what I enjoy and prefer. Alas, we should all look to 3rd party publishers... or perhaps a different system altogether (I hear that ICE has a new Sci-Fi game coming out). |
| #57Nox_NoctisJun 02, 2008 14:47:31 | I think the complaint that the d20modern crowd needs a place to talk is erroneous because there are other sites that facilitate such discussion. The growing BrilliantGameologists forum, for instance, would likely be a perfect match (and the site administrators would gladly make a new forum section for d20modern). So I don't see that as a real problem to the community. It is sad, however, that d20modern is being discontinued. |
| #58narukagamiJun 02, 2008 15:18:54 | I'd like to throw out a random comment: I've seen 4e. I pray any future versions of Modern that might pop up (fat chance) will be nothing like it... |
| #59battles14Jun 03, 2008 9:59:30 | They want to play a game different from the standard elf, dwarf, human, halfling party killing kobolds, goblins, and monsters. They already have enough campaign settings from D20 Modern, D20 Future, D20 Past, and D20 Apocalypse to broaden Modern away from Guns and Spells... Here's a thought...if you don't want magic and greatswords in your game, don't use them. The fact of the matter is that as a GM, you can restrict access to certain rules and equipment. Instead of complaining about a system that tries to be as flexible and accommodating as possible, just keep UA or Future on the shelf. I think it blows that they are "letting go" of Modern, but look on the brightside. It gives us, the players and gms, a chance to really make the system our own. Obviously we can't be breaking copyright law and such, but just to homebrew the hell out of the system. That's very easy to say. In fact, many have said it. But when members of this forum try to get people together to create said 'hell', the boards get as silent as a graveyard. There's nothing wrong with posting your rules for 'd20 X that I saw in a tv show/movie', but the most successful homebrew needs to be universal, applying to a wide range of games. That's what I've tried to do in my work (SPOILER ALERT: I'm hoping to post the first chapter of a new campaign setting with the next week or so.) I've seen 4e. I pray any future versions of Modern that might pop up (fat chance) will be nothing like it... I've seen it too...from your mouth to God's ear, buddy. Not only are there things I hate about 4e, but there are some elements that, if applied to d20M, would completely wreck the system (paragon paths and epic destinies, anyone?). It's almost worth starting a new thread just to show WOTC that giving d20 Modern the 4e treatment is a gargantuan mistake. |
| #60emissary666Jun 03, 2008 10:50:01 | You mistake what we say. we are not saying that magic and sword play should not be in modern, we are saying that to us it sometimes feels as if modern was designed for that. |
| #61backstabbistJun 03, 2008 19:15:50 | If that were the case, Clubswingers would be the only Basic Class with full BAB, and Gunman would get a lesser BAB. But this is Modern, and you can tell their focus by where they put the BAB. |
| #62trappedsliderJun 03, 2008 20:09:53 | Okay peeps D20 modern has never gotten the ful D&D treatment,and i doubt highlythat it will be "4e with guns" |
