Mar 12, 2008 2:59:57 I houserule that any time a character wants a shave, he can either pay the barber 1 gp to get it done properly, or he must make a Reflexes save (DC 5) or suffer 1 hp damage.

If they were doing it themselves, I would go with a Dex check, although a high enough level barbarian doesn't need to worry about it anyway. And a gold is about 20gp anyway, so not as far as Argulfraster thinks.

Mar 16, 2008 21:38:17 Shaving, in general, requires skill. An untrainted skill check (Proffession:Barber) using WIS is more appropriate than DEX. A barber would, in an ideal situation, have ranks in the skill and be able to perform it to satisfaction.

Not using a proper razor is important, as well. The usual -5 penalty would be appropriate for the check using improvised instuments (a knife, for instance), if it is possable at all.

That having been said, 1HP is quite a bit to lose from being knicked by a knife while shaving. A simple heal check would be enough to put a paper dot on it or balm the irritation. In either event, unless the character sticks the razor/knife up thier nose, it's unlikely to cause any real or lasting HP damage.
