| #1senkoApr 03, 2008 22:35:21 | I'm developing some pre-generated characters for a D20 Modern game (featuring school aged kids 11 to 18 as a kind of light suppliment to run in alteration of our regular game if the GM gets sick) and I'm using the 4d6 drop the lowest assign as appropriate to character concept and its been fine for the first 2. However the third character (13 year old female smart hero) the rolls I got were as follows. Roll 1 7, 14, 11, 13, 17 and 15 giving her STR: 7 DEX: 15 CON: 13 INT: 17 WIS: 11 CHA: 14 Roll 2 10, 15, 13, 14, 10 and 8 giving her STR: 8 DEX: 14 CON: 10 INT: 15 WIS: 10 CHA: 13 Roll 3 8, 13, 10, 15, 16 and 14 giving her STR: 8 DEX: 15 CON: 13 INT: 16 WIS: 10 CHA: 14 So it'll be either character one or 3 (I'm thinking character one at the moment) however I'm wondering if I should reroll the 7 (which got 3 ones and a 5), boost it to 10 or just leave it as is with her being much weaker than normal? |
| #2backstabbistApr 03, 2008 23:55:39 | Play her as a wimp. You already said she was a Smart, play up the weakness &have fun. Always have her have a hard time with simple stuff, and ask guys to do stuff for her... open jars, carry the laptop bag, turn a really tight bolt.... simple stuff to make the character come to life. Heck, I played a Str 5 mage once in D&D. At 3rd level she was killed by outrageous DM, and reincarnated as something different... came back with better stats. Yup, getting killed really was the best thing to happen to her. |
| #3senkoApr 04, 2008 0:06:00 | Fair enough str 7 it is then.:D |
| #4tema69Apr 04, 2008 5:16:47 | I really can't see the problem with your stats? We use 4d6 drop the lowest die and reroll 1s. We often have characters with stats with penalties to their ability scores. It's often just as much fun for a character to suck at something than to be overcrazygood at something. And, if you play children, Str7 would be totally normal. Str 10-12 is a normal adult person (civilian). |
| #5nodaishoApr 04, 2008 5:56:56 | While that is true, most of the strength, for males at least, comes during puberty, I remember noticing that when I was 12 or 13, that I had gotten a lot stronger without working out or anything. I can't speak for females, as I am not one, and I never really think to ask questions like that. edit: And I would probably go with #3 if I were you, I think an 8 just gives -1, as opposed to -2. You don't get one point away from a +4 intelligence, though, so if you really want that, you would go with #1. Personally, I would either want higher dex or higher con when given points with those stats, assuming you are going to be in any kind of combat. |
| #6tema69Apr 04, 2008 6:45:09 | I wouldn't know - I started fencing during puberty, which boosted my pathetic fysique quite a bit (to a less but still pathetic fysique). My girlfriend is real weak though, I'd give her a Str of 5-6. I myself believe myself to be around 9-10. Most girls I know are weaker than me but stronger than my gf. So that'd give 'em between 6 and 9. I do know a girl almost as strong as myself (which is quite scary) - we used to wrestle a lot. So the score may not be heroic, but it does sound realistic. |
| #7senkoApr 04, 2008 7:56:48 | Hmmmm interesting points there and on looking at the boook I agree that the young adult/adult having no difference doesn't make much sense. I vaguelly recall a +1 to all stats at 16 from somewhere so if child is -3 for example (to some things) then maybe young adult 12-15 is -1 to all stats. Which would mean at 13 with a str of 7 that'l go up to 8 at 16 still weak but not as weak and she can always put points in it to get it to 10 normal (by working out). Although I suppose a point off intelligence for a point in str isn't so bad I mainlly picked 1 because it had 1 more point overall than the 3rd. Still things for me to consider thanks. |
| #8crwydrynyApr 04, 2008 8:27:17 | I have to agree with the others here. just play with the low stat it would make for a good role playing point. (reminds me of those films where the big action hero rips off doors with one hand while his side kick can't put a hole in a wet paper bag but when it comes to the smarts the weak guy takes over the role of the lead) I have a friend who plays a charicter with a low dexterity and plays her as a klutz (things like tripping over her feet while walking down the street, or dropping things. there was one game where she acidently knocked over a stack of boxes while trying to hide and squishing the bad guy's henchmen) personally I like charicters with little flaws they make the game more intresting, I even award extra experience to players that role play charicter flaws (phobias, injuries, disabilities, mental problems, alergies) |
| #9brokenoakleysApr 04, 2008 18:20:54 | #1. It is the rough equivalent to a 32 point buy, which is very very good. She'll start out with 48 skill points, and can easily switch over to Charimatic for a level or two and pick up some good diplomacy skills. Her dex allows her good defense and ranged wpn attacks (assuming your little darlings will be allowed to carry firearms :D ). A weak strength will force the player to be more of a team member and rely on others for melee, assisting with strength based checks and carrying heavy loads. |

Smarts dont need guns, give them a portable CardioDefib and a SubWoofer... and they'll make an ElacrtoMagnetic SpoonGun (yes, she can kill you with a teaspoon- dont make het get out the railroad spikes) Spoongun pl5 Adapted MagnetoRepulser ranged weapon ROF: 1 Magazine: 5 shots , 2hr AC recharge Damage: 2d4 Range: 10' , max 5 increments And lets not forget what happens when you leave her in a room with a CO2 fire extinguisher, a box of pencils, & a tapedeck.... oh the carnage :evillaugh She doesnt have to hit you with a chair, She disasembles the chair, then fabricates a new weapon from those componants.... hands it to her friend, and her friend the rugby player hits you with that You can even later have her take some Field Officer to rally her team for more efficient smackdown disbursal |

Screw "I can kill you with my mind", I can kill you with someone else's mind. I need mine to stay right where it is. |

LOL. thanks a lot now I have to clean my drink of my monitor ![]() i like her, kind of reminds me of a macgyver meets the A-team tough hero "here they come and I don't have my gun" smart hero "pass me you belt, a paper clip, a rubber band, some duct tape and your gum" tough hero "err... ok" *tinker tinker tinker* smart hero "here you go a shoulder launched sonic electronic ball breaker" |
| #14backstabbistApr 08, 2008 15:15:24 | Maybe the weak Smart girl could take some Perform ranks like this chick. She dont look to strong, yet is making something of herself. |

| #17senkoApr 09, 2008 23:40:09 | Thanks for the suggestions I did like the "I can kill you with someone elses mind" comment. EDIT Or as just occured to me Smart character: "I've got half a mind to kill you". Jock: "They're the bad guy just do it!" Smart Character: "Er no I mean I've got half a mind." Holds up weapon "See I only needed the left hemispere to take out the last minion." |
