#1 ammocase Dec 04, 2008 16:07:48	I have the uncanny ability to finish up a book only to have a new edition come out. And i just so happened to be part of a group that is always wanting to play the "newer" games over the older editions. I dont see wizards releasing any new books, or talking about any new editions for modern. If they dropped modern... then that would be fine for me, since I wont waste time reading something my group wouldnt want to play ( i have enough books to read for college, so my time is limited ) and the fact that modern doesnt have a predecessor would shut them up enough to play the game. So should i even bother reading up my d20 modern material? I never looked at it after I bought it, but i always wanted to. Now my group is interested in modern, and i dont want to risk my time if a new edition comes out in 3 or 5 months and I have to go and reread all new pages again.
#2 esgarblackpox Dec 04, 2008 17:00:45	I'd say go for it. To my knowledge, WotC has nothing planned for D20M in the near future, being far more concerned with the monster known as 4e. Our last splat, Dark*Matter was like 2 years ago, and that was a fluff-extravaganza (no complaint here, just saying there wasn't many mechanics inside), so it seems like we'll be loving our books for awhile yet.

#4 layla_minogue Dec 04, 2008 17:10:11	I agree. Your d20 books will be a good investment. Wizards has certainly not made any big moves with the library for a long time. Hell, just getting them to keep this forum online was a struggle :rolleye2: . So while you might not be able to expect a lot of new material over the next few years, at least you can get into a solid roleplaying system that can be used for all types of scenarios.
#5 turalisj Dec 04, 2008 17:42:59	If you want to get new stuff though, look for 3rd party stuff. Heck, even variant systems. Mutants and Masterminds, while it has a general comic book feel to it, can be used to make pretty good. Green Ronin puts out new material on a regular basis, and they've even got a guide for making manga style characters coming out! Yeah, I'm still ticked about 4e so I'm looking for new systems....

Meh. 4e is out and I haven't bothered to pick it up. Won't do so for two years. d20 Modern is still good, especially with third-party support.

Just because there isn't any more content coming out, doesn't mean some of the stuff isn't crap. Like the rules for starships and mecha. Or how the strong hero can shoot better than the fast hero. Etc.

Gotta love when even the existing stuff is half-assed and crappy ;) You also forgot to mention the all out broken gadget system, nonsensical nerfing of weapons and armor as technology is supposed to be progressing, and how the gunslinger is out-gunned by a martial artist. Ok, d20 Modern isn't anywhere near perfect. But (with the exception of d20 Future) its books have a lower crap to good ratio of problems than the entirety of 3.x D&D, probably due to the fact there are so few of them.
