As a GM, have you ever wanted to give your PCs a standard set of equipment? This can be quite useful to save time and to avoid arguments as to just exactly what your PCs brought along on the excursion. (But I swear my character always has his rocket launcher with him!) The d20 supplement Stargate SG-1 (287, 292) has a nice list of equipment bundle packages to give your players. They include ones like: Aquatic Operation Bundle, Arctic Operation Bundle, Counter-Intelligence Bundle, Demolitions Bundle, Researcher Bundle, Arrest Bundle, Assassination Bundle, Disaster Relief Bundle, Hijack Bundle, Rescue Bundle, Search Bundle, Photographer Bundle, as well as a slew of Weapons Bundles. They're definitely cool and useful. I've included two examples below:

Standard Mission Bundle
• Unmarked weatherproof backpack (to store bundle)
• 1 set standard BDUs (jungle)
• Combat boots
• Baseball cap (matching BDUs)
• Load bearing harness
• Compass, magnetic
• Canteen
• Flashlight (3-hour charge)
• 1 day’s MREs (Meals Ready to Eat)
• Tactical deployment vest
• Tactical radio (4-hour charge)

Search Bundle
• Unmarked weatherproof “sea bag” (to store bundle)
• Climbing kit
• Binoculars
• GPS receiver (4-hour charge)
• Video camera, standard, with IR lens (2-hour charge)
• 4 batteries (interchangeable with camera and radio)
• Flare gun with 4 flares

It's certainly a very functional idea. Standard-issue equipment makes a lot of sense, but be careful that your players don't feel pigeon-holed.

good point though it also helps players out a bit, especially if they got some kit already, at least this way the dm can be confident there at least partly prepared

Good point, Powercat. I always preface assigning the PCs their eqiupment bundles by saying they are allowed to bring any personal stuff that they can carry. Additionally, they are allowed to requisition anything they might need within reason. Not all requests are honored, however.
