#1 AnimeSniper Apr 28, 2009 19:16:59	Okay so I came up with an idea for a mission/campaign arc and am needing help in stating/working out the specifics for a technological form of bacteriophage that can infiltrate and infect a computer network. So far I have that it will be an R&D project on a planet with a military presence and the PC's will somehow be dragged into the conflict... I will post more when I have ideas...

#4 koosemose Apr 29, 2009 8:18:23	What exactly are you meaning by technophage? Is it basically a standard computer virus that has a solid (nanite?) component? Or basically a grey goo that only affects technology? I don't have any ideas regarding stats atm, however if you don't yet have detailed concepts for how it functions I have a few ideas that you may be interested in... If it's the first option, you could treat it basically as a variant on grey goo, instead of gathering materials to build something or another, it's gather information (and possibly algorithms/programs/code) to create some kind of database of knowledge (possibly a particular type of knowledge... something that PCs could eventually pick up on if it only affects systems containing a certain type of information, or in the case of it gettign particular algorithms it could be trying to increase the capabilities of it's/it's progenitor's AI, and could be a potential clue to PCs if they look at what kind of code it destroyed. If it's the second option then, well the best conceptual reference would be a technovirus from a particular serial that ran in either Analog or Asimov (Science Fiction Pulp mags if yer not familiar) that caused freaky mutations in technological devices (to VERY disturbing effect as a significant portion of the population had cybernetics). If it's this type I can take a look through their sites to see if they have any portions of the stories available for free so you can get an idea (I think there were several serials in this setting with the technovirus I just only read one of them).
#5 AnimeSniper Apr 29, 2009 17:38:56	The facility does several forms of R&D for the Empire of a starsystem that spans three galaxies and the planets starsystem acts as training/testing facility for the new weapons and the technophage is a weapon system devised and designed to infiltrate an enemies computer network allowing the Empire to monitor/gather information or shutdown the enter system... I do like your suggestions Koosemoose Edit 1: Grabbed a few things from DanDwiki's D&D Monster SRD to see how to stat this out; rust monster, gray ooze, etc... the Gray Goo is going to start out as a probable vial about the size of soda can before it gets releashed...
