| #1atanakarDec 08, 2008 18:52:54 | I've been toying with this campaign idea for a while. Any comments? Chapter 001 • Background Age 1 • Exploration & Alterations The first phase of colonization started after the development and perfection of Jump_Spheres between 2081 and 2087. Jump_Spheres, or «JS», were first used to «teleport» to different locations around Earth. The second generation of JS were developed to teleport in space. The first jump was made to the Moon in 2089. Rocket science industry is abandoned by scientists and governments. Successive jumps are made to Mars and the other planets in the Solar system. By 2095, with the development of more powerful powercores, JS are able to jump as far as Pluto. For the next 50 years all the planets and satellites in the Solar system are colonized. By 2105 human population outside of Earth has reach three million. During the same period of time bioengineering was perfected to an art form. Thanks to organ regrowth and DNA manipulation Humans now have a life expectancy of 100 to 120 years. It is during this period that five major permanent alterations to the DNA of space faring humans are developed : Polyvision, Polygland Nexus, Biotech Ports, Biocervical Booster and Biorepair Nodes became standard traits of humans travelling in the Solar System and beyond. In 2112 the first jump outside the Solar system is accomplished with the third generation of Jump_Spheres. This new one kilometer wide JS transports a crew of 25 altered humans and equipment to the Alpha Centauri system. Age 2 • The Others and the Plague Between 2112 and 2176 humans explore the Milky Way. They come into contact with 3 benevolent space capable civilizations : The Køalfrans, the D'Jelx and the Oolulits. They also come into contact with 2 pre-space faring civilizations : The «primitive» Maaq~Rens and the «steam age» EwVards. During this period Humans are successful in establishing trading outposts and non-aggression treaties with all the alien governments. This golden Age of galactic peace lasts until the start of the Powerphage Plague in 2159. Contamination of jump powercores by the interdimensional powerphage parasites prevents usage of jump technology. Researchers from all races fail to find solution to fight off the powerphage plague. Milky Way civilizations slowly regress to pre-space jump levels. Populations are left to fend for themselves across the galaxy. Eventually, the powerphage population dwindles to almost nothing after they have drained all the jump powercores in the galaxy. A century has passed... Age 3 • The New Frontier Earth : Campaign begins with characters volunteering for first Human Jump_Sphere activation in a hundred years. Its time to go back to the stars! |
| #2AnimeSniperDec 08, 2008 19:27:50 | Interesting... the bio-implants are sort of similar to what I have in my campaign notes... give me time to find them and I'll get back later. |
| #3atanakarDec 08, 2008 19:30:54 | great anime ! let compare notes : Human bio implants: [first draft] [ A ] • PolyVision : A human can adjust his vision mode at-will to fit his needs. The modes include : normal, extreme luminescence, infrared and low light vision. [ B ] • Polygland Nexus : Each human has a series of super_glands that can be used a number of times per day. The glands produce : Adrenaline, Andomorphine, Pheromones, etc... [ C ] • BioTech Port : Humans can connect directly with bio_tech objects, weapons and vehicles with the use of bio_electric pulses transmitted through hand contact. [ D ] • BioCervical Boosters : These five bio_storage units, located in the skull, can be filled with data or knowledge directly usable by the brain. [ E ] • BioRepair Nodes : Self-repair nodes are located throughout the human body. Because of this humans have acquired limited regeneration capabilities. |
| #4AnimeSniperDec 08, 2008 19:40:43 | Nice and I printed them off to compare since I think my notes are on my laptop at home... I do remember that one is a type of implant that produces a natural chemical for female spacers to prevent pregnency on limited crew/sized ships and another is a bio-nannite subprocessor core that helps in learning etcetera. |
| #5AnimeSniperDec 08, 2008 19:49:53 | Found the precursor doc notes for transit means for starships without slipspace tech... and the note says check laptop HD... seriously need to find all my tech notes make cd-rw copies and move to flashdrive for transit means!:embarrass |
| #6tema69Dec 09, 2008 5:16:56 | This sounds interesting, Atanakar! I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread - I don't really know what I can contribute with, I haven't played future/space travel stuff. |
| #7atanakarDec 10, 2008 6:01:37 | Should I go SAGA instead of Future? I bought the book and I really like what I'm reading. Are there any broken «rules» in the book I should be aware off? TALENTS Also, I'm tired of first to third level «lameness» of characters. I was thinking of allowing first level characters to have the first talent (with no prequisits) of every talent tree for his chosen class. This way players would really have the impression of playing a Noble from the get go rather than a one act man. Ex : Lvl 1 Noble - Presence, Bolster Ally, Born Leader and Connections. |
| #8tema69Dec 10, 2008 8:28:52 | I've only heard good stuff about SAGA, and I think that the many houserules we use are somewhat reminiscent of SAGA. So yea, go for it. You should PM CyberDave for advice on SAGA though. I guess giving all 3 talents from the get go could be a way to avoid "lame" low-level characters. |
| #9AnimeSniperDec 11, 2008 14:55:51 | Should I go SAGA instead of Future? It does seem odd how WotC gives you the choice of a Profession in d20, has you make the age over 18, and then expects your character not to have access to certain abilities i.e. Nobles were often raised in the ways of the noble court since they could read, write, and walk... |
| #10atanakarDec 11, 2008 15:20:48 | It does seem odd how WotC gives you the choice of a Profession in d20, has you make the age over 18, and then expects your character not to have access to certain abilities i.e. Nobles were often raised in the ways of the noble court since they could read, write, and walk... SO TRUE ! Before I go any further with the elaboration of this campaign I will go over 1st level character creation in Saga D20 and propose an «alternate» process closer to «real life» ... If you can say that about a game with spaceships and aliens ... LOL Any suggestions are welcome ! |
| #11AnimeSniperDec 11, 2008 15:45:10 | On the topic of Nobles, even the future variety, most would recieve a monthly or quarterly stipend from their parents to live on... just because your PC isn't on the Homeworld of their birth doesn't mean that their parents cut them off unless its 'Here's 500k credits now go and live up to the family name by insert objective'... I mean the PC may be having to make a business or something within a timeframe.... and what about those Corporate Nobles, sons and daughters of Interstellar companies, I mean sometimes they are Black Sheep to the family for whatever reason... On this, I may see if Borders has a copy of SAGA for myself just to compare and for inspiration Sorry if I ranted a bit! |
| #12atanakarDec 11, 2008 16:39:43 | On the topic of Nobles, even the future variety, most would recieve a monthly or quarterly stipend from their parents to live on... INDEED ! This could be linked to a «reputation point» system. If said reputation level drops too low .. snip! |
| #13AnimeSniperDec 11, 2008 17:11:30 | Evil simply evil... a Noble PC unknowingly insults a long time business/customer of the family which results in cut dealings and the family cuts their wayward childs stipend...:D On Reputation, a PC after the GM rolls a percentile to choose standing of their family which results in easier dealings in certain areas; need something for the ship and your family name helps you get it and if you start being a bad PR influence to the family they cut ties with you... "I'm sorry to say young Darius is no longer a member of this family... he was such a promising child!" Corporate Noble to INS reporter. |
| #14atanakarDec 11, 2008 20:27:34 | snip! |
| #15AnimeSniperDec 12, 2008 12:15:15 | Been working on a percentile roll table for the Heir occupation in D20 which I added teh Noble Scion and Corporate Nobles to the listed errata... that and I started to a couple new Occupations to the Future ones... |
| #16atanakarDec 12, 2008 16:20:39 | When you are done I would certainly like to see them. |
| #17atanakarDec 12, 2008 17:14:29 | snip ! |
| #18AnimeSniperDec 12, 2008 18:45:41 | What I have so far since I had a final today... but the one for Technician for my RE Homebrew campaign is a little more in depth... Take the number and place them in the top bar of a table chart and voila:D Also, I will take suggestions for the later three tiers. Show Houserule: The GM may roll a Percentile dice to decide the PC’s family standing in the game. Some Families can instill fear into those who hear their names simply by taking repercussions against those who have insulted them in some way or form. 1. Roll 1-20% 21-40% 41-60% 61-80% 81-100% 100%+ 2. Wealth Bonus +2 +4 +6 +10 +15 +20 3. Standing 4. Reputation Bonus 5. Family Standing |
| #19atanakarDec 14, 2008 16:08:28 | Found this image on the net that could be used to illustrate Jump_Sphere :![]() Reference : http://deckplans.00sf.com/Loronar/SkyBlind.html |
| #20AnimeSniperDec 14, 2008 17:27:39 | Nice Could be an ejectable system in case some minor problem while opening and closing slip space... this size could be equipped on a command frigate that could open a single portal for the entire fleet to pass through... |
| #21atanakarDec 18, 2008 5:49:38 | Nice Could be an ejectable system in case some minor problem while opening and closing slip space... this size could be equipped on a command frigate that could open a single portal for the entire fleet to pass through... Actually the guy who drew this created a landing module that detaches from the main body. For Jump_Spheres I would simply turn it into a command deck/lifepod combo. ![]() |
| #22AnimeSniperDec 27, 2008 22:09:21 | Been rounding up my Homebrew docs and I will get back with some good tech stuff for here.... I found all of my variations of A.M.I. tech which is Artificial Matrix Intelligence cores which can be used in several fields based on the needed function... |
| #23tema69Jan 04, 2009 15:39:10 | Hi, I thought I'd pop in and say that I'm loosely using this setting as a general background setting for a steampunk campaign which takes place on a planet on Alpha Centauri, left to fend for itself after the Plague. I'm using the 4th City steampunk setting for a small area of the planet, and I'm in the process of writing about the planet itself, with help from a few others. It's over at BrilliantGameologists.com, so I'll link to the thread here. (the thread was originally about another campaign, hence the weird thread-title - everything about the steampunk setting starts here). I thought you might be interested in seeing what horrible things we're doing to your poor, defenseless setting. ...which is great. :D |
| #24atanakarJan 06, 2009 11:29:28 | I thought you might be interested in seeing what horrible things we're doing to your poor, defenseless setting. ...which is great. :D At least YOU are doing something with it! I was so overworked in the last month I didn't even feel like opening my books. To top it all off my players want to play a real Star Wars Saga campaign ... ![]() I'll keep this one in reserve for latter use. |
