| #1narukagamiAug 27, 2009 18:08:41 | I hate this layout. Its unintuitive, clunky, and ugly. It also ate my post count and I no longer have any subscribed threads. But I'm happy to see the d20 Modern board still exists. Thats a miracle. |
| #2ZovcAug 27, 2009 18:11:48 | I really miss the "bulleted" list of subforums under forums--it was a lot nicer than a block of bright blue text. |
| #3Dane_McArdyAug 27, 2009 18:12:26 |
agreed, lists are better then running text for something like that. |
| #4shieldzyboyAug 27, 2009 18:14:35 | yeah it does suck cuz i had thousands of cards under my trade post and now a little prick is going to get away with my mox diamond 3 legendary lands an an ass load of cards because i dont have his info in my inbox this is bullshit wizard i hate u soo much |
| #5MatthewAmiraultAug 27, 2009 18:17:23 | Links need a hover style. Formatting tags from old forum system need to be converted to new forum system. Why on earth is the div containing the poster's information solid when the div containing the post is transparent? Option to hide the right side blocks.
I had commented to a friend that the site actually looked professional now, until I finished setting up and got to the forums... |
| #6narukagamiAug 27, 2009 18:19:42 | Here's another thing, how many of you even noticed this was posted in the d20 Modern section? This is going to turn out to be a big confusing mess when people ask questions to a specific area and everyone in the entire community sees it on the side without any indication of WHERE its being asked. |
| #7Cyber-DaveAug 27, 2009 18:51:48 | Yea... this new forum ate up entire sections of the Land of Nod effectively destroying years worth of work. It also no longer checks spelling. I might actually be leaving this online community over this forum switch. I don't know. I also might not be purchasing Saga products anymore (I only bought them for the Land of Nod, and right now I am feeling really hopeless about recovering the setting to its former 'glory'). I am far less than pleased. |
| #8narukagamiAug 27, 2009 19:06:21 | I agree with you entirely. I think I may be migrating over to ENWorld or Brilliant Gameologist again, everything about this new forum is frustrating as hell and completely counter-intuitive. |
| #9Cyber-DaveAug 27, 2009 19:17:21 | I don't have words to express how pissed I am about the information lost in the Land of Nod thread. This forum migration butchered the setting. I am assuming that similar projects (such as Elysium Nebula) are also ruined. |
| #10dabutcherAug 27, 2009 19:22:03 | Has anyone told WoTC about this yet? WoTC won't even need a forums because of the amount of people leaving. Anyway. WIZARDS BRING BACK THE OLD FORUMS! |
| #11Duke5150Aug 27, 2009 19:29:59 | I'm of mixed feelings, personally. I like some of the new features, like a personal homepage. But the forums are now a confusing mess and it seems some of my eberron posts are gone. I was never a fan of the "myspace forums" and the new wotc forums are basically the exact same setup and layout. Atleast the old forum style was easy to use and easy to find things. Now I have no idea where anything is. |
| #12atanakarAug 27, 2009 19:35:41 | My god people calm down ! I'm surprised you did not back up your work in another medium? Didn't you regularly use the save as PDF (or doc) functionality of the old forums? (roll down menu top right corner) Personaly I like the changes. Especially the wiki & blog options. I'll restart my D&D 4E, SWSE & Modern campaign logs as [edit] a blog very soon. [/edit] Thumbs up to the Wotc forum team !
|
| #13KerrusAug 27, 2009 19:38:34 | Oh, I admit this new forum is nice. But I'd prefer it to actually function right, rather then be pretty. A lot of things don't work, and apparently none of this was actually tested on any non-iexplore web browsers, or people who don't have 50" screens, so there's a lot of garbage messing crap up.
Also, stuff's all over the place, quotes don't really work because the forum part is so bloody narrow, all so I can see up to date RSS crap on things I don't even care about.
If you're reading this WotC, LEAVE THE BLOODY RSS FEED STUFF TO ACTUAL RSS FEEDS. NONE OF US NEED IT CLOGGING UP OUR SCREENS! |
| #14atanakarAug 27, 2009 19:41:45 |
I just quoted you in 2 seconds AND I'm using Firefox on a MAC. Everything works fine from «my point of view» LOL |
| #15davi_the_eccentricAug 27, 2009 19:54:02 | Really, I have to agree with most of the posters here. It looks nice, but so much of the forums are just... bad. If the Recent Post list taking up a third of the space are taken down/made optional, the space for the actual thread posts are expanded to a decent size, and subscriptions are added back in, maybe the forum's structure will be decent again. |
| #16RagitsuAug 27, 2009 20:12:34 | I agree. This looks ugly. |
| #17RagitsuAug 27, 2009 20:25:59 | By the way, i'm generally optimistic, but even I know that anytime a message board or forum upgrades, the "progress" is anything but. |
| #18atanakarAug 27, 2009 20:34:47 | By the way, i'm generally optimistic, but even I know that anytime a message board or forum upgrades, the "progress" is anything but. We [modern] are still here. Your account hasn't been erased, the old threads you take care of are still here. @all : Isn't this just about resistance to change? It took me one minute to figure were the info was. The new format has a fresh feel to it. AND doesn't need to load the «aluminum» background images I had trouble with from time to time. |
| #19RagitsuAug 27, 2009 20:38:45 | Are you kidding me? Entire sections of threads are lost. Work is forever gone. The quoting/descriptions posted pre-board move look silly. Everything's smaller (or a lot narrower) and looks more "commercial" on the whole. Pictures have shrunk. The ability to have a custom avatar is nice, but it doesn't balance everything else out. |
| #20atanakarAug 27, 2009 20:42:10 |
Why did you not make back ups then? We were warned. I made a thread specificaly to warn all. I backed up my stuff using the save as PDF function. This is sad. |
| #21narukagamiAug 27, 2009 20:43:46 |
Not necessarily. A lot of the old functionality is gone for inexplicable reasons, in their place is new functions that hardly.... function. Features that are just common sense standards to any kind of discussion board are just flat-out missing. Many features and options are hidden in sections where they just don't belong. The visual style is offensive to the eyes, and there is far too much wasted space on the screen. Things that should be optional features, such as the topic feed on the side, are not optional, nor can be customized. (I could care less whats going on in the Magic forums, I don't play it.) Also, all my subscriptions are gone, and I posted in so many random threads before the changeover I'll never be able to find them all again. Thankfully most of the recent ones are in the Modern section. Its more than a "resistance to change," there are plenty of legitimate complaints that I fear will get mostly ignored because even legitimate complaints are going to get filed under "just complaining because its different." |
| #22RagitsuAug 27, 2009 20:45:40 |
Don't forget signatures too. A lot of posters had very elaborate and helpful signatures. |
| #23atanakarAug 27, 2009 20:52:34 |
Indeed. Signatures will be back. Check the preference menu top left below your avatar picture. |
| #24thorn-wychkinAug 27, 2009 20:53:02 | guys quit getting your panties in a bunch. the forum is still in its beta stage. why don't you guys actally wait for things to be finalized before you start ragging on the new format. who knows, your lost work might show up pretty soon.
as for the whole look of the board i like it. The whole look of it is more inviting and friendly. my only problem so far is that all the forums under each heading are no longer in a bulleted list. |
| #25atanakarAug 27, 2009 20:56:58 | guys quit getting your panties in a bunch. the forum is still in its beta stage. why don't you guys actally wait for things to be finalized before you start ragging on the new format. who knows, your lost work might show up pretty soon. as for the whole look of the board i like it. The whole look of it is more inviting and friendly. my only problem so far is that all the forums under each heading are no longer in a bulleted list. Yep it does say BETA next to community... Hopefully the «save/print this thread» function will reappear at some point. |
| #26narukagamiAug 27, 2009 20:57:04 |
God forbid anyone voice an opinion thats negative... *rolleyes* If things do get fixed in the future, then great. But for now we have a right to post our praise and frustration for the new style. If you don't like it don't read threads about it. |
| #27aboleth11Aug 27, 2009 20:59:34 | This whole thing is stupid. It asks for a bunch of really personal info and deletes all my stuff! What was WotC thinking!?!?!?!?!?!?! AND WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SIGNATURE!!!!!!! |
| #28RagitsuAug 27, 2009 20:59:41 |
Excuse me? No one has told you to stop snorting white powder, so don't tell us to stop contorting our underwear. |
| #29narukagamiAug 27, 2009 20:59:51 | I don't understand this "don't complain because its a Beta" attitude. If you don't complain, how will anyone know what is wrong with the Beta? |
| #30AegeriAug 27, 2009 21:01:40 | Also, all my subscriptions are gone, and I posted in so many random threads before the changeover I'll never be able to find them all again. Thankfully most of the recent ones are in the Modern section. I don't regret the loss of signatures. For every helpful one, there were numerous overly long and extremely obnoxious ones. This isn't to say I am a big fan of the new forums though, but I can live without signatures easily if it means you won't see a 3 word post with a huge obnoxious sig that is easily 10x the length of it. What I would like is just readability increased in general and it is really disappointing to see that whole posts have been devoured in the changeover. |
| #31ctkfluffyAug 27, 2009 21:06:10 |
I have no idea what game you play, but this is how they dismissed the legitimate complaints about some recent changes in magic. I imagine it's what happened to D&D 4.0 as well, I heard that got mangled rather badly compared with 3.5. For now, I'm not going to complain as I haven't heard what they are/are not planning to fix. The auto-paragraph-spacing after line breaks is ridiculous, and I'd really love to use more than 60% of my wide screen, especially if they insist on devoting 40% of the available space to a feed down the side with no way to remove. Almost as much space is being lost vertically to white space by the paragraph spacing as is being lost horizontally to the rss feed. This is the only thing I don't think will get fixed, although old posts may be gone for good.
In any case, there's plenty of other forums if this one doesn't suit. It is a beta, so I would at least give the forum programmers the benefit of the doubt and see what they end up with before leaving in a fit of rage. |
| #32aboleth11Aug 27, 2009 21:19:10 | I suggest that eveyone send a polite message to wizards telling them that they dislike the new forum. Maybe if they get enough they will decide that it was better the old way. |
| #33RagitsuAug 27, 2009 21:22:21 |
Unfortunately, I don't think this is a democracy. |
| #34atanakarAug 27, 2009 21:33:06 |
Never said not to complain. I even requested they bring back the save options. Why not make a bullet point list of the beefs you have instead of giving ultimatums? It would be more constructive. |
| #35aboleth11Aug 27, 2009 21:33:25 | I have created a new group, WSDNF (We Strongly Dislike the New Forums) Please feel free to join. |
| #36trebbellar_laeywayAug 27, 2009 21:37:09 | I agree wholeheartedly. I can already think of quite a few reasons why this new look is utterly intolerable. I have to search for threads, there is no longer a simple checkmark next to threads I post in, viewing pages takes much, much, longer, layout is simplified but retarded (Like Microsoft office 2007 compared to the older version). And so much more. I am un-happy to say that I was not able to move my games forward,as I awaited a new change that is completely stupid. |
| #37trebbellar_laeywayAug 27, 2009 21:43:46 | And may I also say that this site has decided to pretty much make these forums into a Facebook...or, oops, I mean to say, another social networking site layout. Boooooooooo!!!! Please do not tell me these changes were made for that purpose only. I will go nuts!!! Simply put. Make it to where I can easily see what threads I posted in like the old forum style had, thereby eliminating the hassle of looking through a really bright, white background (that hurts my eyes) as I try to discern the funny little words that are in light blue (which also hurts my eyes even more). If I could easily see what threads I posted in, (like if there was a large checkmark next to them or something) thereby allowing me to be able to more quickly find what games I am running in a forum, as well as games I am playing in, I could almost forgive this abomination that is the new forums. |
| #38RagitsuAug 27, 2009 21:46:20 |
It just looks like all those other dime-a-dozen "message" boards that pop up and can disappear at a moment's notice, rather than a long term residence. |
| #39kao_unagiAug 27, 2009 21:51:17 | I assume the white blocks are just filler for when they get a legitimate color scheme. It makes my eyeballs throw up.
Or at least a customizable color shceme. The vanilla layout for most forums, even at stuff like freeboards are much nicer. I think I'm getting motion sickness.
I suppose you could say that the blog is a good feature, but I'm ambivalent. I doubt I'll actually use it. Same for friends. I also miss my Reaper King avatar. Autocard still works! ψ <- Check it out! Psi! I'll definately be using that obscure greek symbol!
EDIT: Woah, there was just a boba fett spambot on the phantom fifth page! And I'm not trippin'! And Firefox's Spellcheck dosnt wark! I'll wake up soon! Won't I?! |
| #40backstabbistAug 27, 2009 21:53:28 | Gather all forums on the internet that have a lack of Suk, and we can supply BOUNDLESS SUKITUDE to them all from this new board layout.
In the words of Bart Simpson, I had no idea that somthing could suk and blow at the same time. |
| #41notnimlessurAug 27, 2009 21:55:45 |
Wow. I did miss that. |
| #42Draco_WhitewindAug 27, 2009 21:59:47 | this is terrible. |
| #43backstabbistAug 27, 2009 22:02:43 | OMG Are we gonna lose 1/4 our screen to "Recent Posts" for games we dont even play? I got a 19" plasma, and the actuall text of posts is only like 5" If you are into cards or minis... ok, if thats your thing then whatever... but I dont want to get the forum posts I'm trying to read squeezed down to fit junk from other games.
|
| #44narukagamiAug 27, 2009 22:05:23 | I'll be honest, I actually avoided certain sections of forums to keep from having to read rampant stupidity that dominated them. The side news feed actually makes it quite difficult to ignore certain threads when they're being thrown in your face because they have new posts. |
| #45vincentdmAug 27, 2009 22:14:22 | Children children, give it time, they have openly said not everything is up to scratch, so just hold tight and hope for the best. |
| #46narukagamiAug 27, 2009 22:19:53 |
Lot of high-horses today... must be some kind of sale going on. Again, why should we just bow down and say "great job!" while turning a blind eye to all the problems? Just because its Wizards' forum doesn't mean we have to be their mindless toadies.
|
| #47backstabbistAug 27, 2009 22:28:23 | Obviously the new board is to start another Version War. The wise folks that see how bad the new board is, vs the riffraff that like anything new from WoC regardless of how horrid it is. We from the d20Modern board dont just blindly support garbage just to avoid sounding negative. We call it as we see it: Garbage is garbage .... to bad for the folks that make garbage, cause we wont call it gold just to make them feel good |
| #48dbayAug 27, 2009 23:01:27 | I agree- I hate this forum, too. Most of the reasons why have already been voiced (the sidebar feed thing, the block of text subforums, the enter=paragraph, the unbeleivably bright white background, etc). Also, I haven't figured out how to make a new sig yet- Backstabbist and Narukagami (and any others who know), how did you guys do it? |
| #49narukagamiAug 27, 2009 23:04:14 |
Its hidden in one of the most idiotic places it could possibly be. Instead of ANYWHERE IN YOUR PROFILE AT ALL, its at the top of the forum in this little link that says "preferences." |
| #50backstabbistAug 27, 2009 23:10:27 | When I hit the ENTER key Can you imagine trying to do up a Stat Block with this stupid 'paragraph' style enter key handler |
| #51dbayAug 27, 2009 23:11:04 |
That's good. brilliant, in fact. So brilliant, I've decided to take a leaf out of backstabbist's book by taking a leaf out of your book- see sig for more info on how brilliant I think this is. I changed my theme to the D&D one, there's a little less white that way. |
| #52RagitsuAug 27, 2009 23:12:34 | Hey guys, is it okay to use Miracle-Gro on my Wizard plants? |
| #53dbayAug 27, 2009 23:12:55 |
no. |
| #54ironlightsaberAug 27, 2009 23:13:19 | You can go here to post your comments, suggestions, fixes and questions-- |

| #56tonyto3690Aug 27, 2009 23:14:35 |
On the Magic side, I stayed even with max exoduses through 50 different eras. I even told people they shouldn't leave. This forum change messed up a lot of work I had done for the forums and other posters, and deleted thousands of my posts and saved work.
Crap>Gleemax>Currentboards |
| #57dbayAug 27, 2009 23:28:55 | The buttons all look greyed-out...because they are grey. Text on buttons is usually, you know, not-grey. These buttons are not-greyt (see what I did there? oh-ho the wit. my sides.) Unless they are hidden somewhere, most of the cooler emoticons are gone, too. This whole thing seems a little too facebook-y to me. It has a feel of having sold something, I don't know. I liked the old cheesy parchment backgrounds and aluminum siding for modern.
EDIT: also, I haven't figured out the symbols next to thread names yet. This one has a little red-orange one that resembles a snail that's head is on fire... what exactly does that mean? Are we on fire? |
| #58kronos182Aug 28, 2009 0:42:24 | I can't say I'm happy with the current forums.. But I'll give it a chance. I'm more annoyed that my inbox was wiped out. I wonder if I can even find any of my posts.... Oh yeah.. Not pleased with the archives being pretty much gone.. I was going to add some more stuff to a few older posts like the 101 future weapons and Mecha Ware house.. empty.. And most emotes are gone, wth? |
| #59kaizer_ryuAug 28, 2009 1:22:08 | I know it's beta. I know parts are not finalized. I know many features have yet to be implemented (or re-implemented). Because of this, I am willing to give the new boards a chance and expect great things. That said, I am unhappy about many of the changes and will express that unhappiness vocally and repeatedly. Here's a few comments for the programmers to think about: Links are generated by hitting Enter: win. Links no longer able to be easily embedded as text links as far as I can tell: not win. Enter key creates a new paragraph: not win Smilies down to a basic set that are far too much like those godawful AIM ones: very much not win sidebar with recent posts: Could be win if you can customize it to show only chosen topics White background and button coloration: not win Loss of mostly intuitive chat coding that basically wrecks old posts: very much not win Attempt to copy social networking sites: not win. I haven't religiously avoided MySpace and Facebook only to have WotC make an unreasonable facsimilie counterintuitive sorting of account customization and overly nosy profile questions: not win assumption of wide screens in the site layout: not win, but understandable crunching of the actual message board column to make room for sidebar: not win sig nuking: not win in/outbox nuking: not win subscription nuking: not win That's only what I've found, and I haven't even gotten into most of the site. Come on, WotC. For something that's been in development for as long as you say, you should have done way better than this. Playtest with actual users that aren't 16 year old MySpace freaks, for gods sake. |
| #60atanakarAug 28, 2009 6:48:42 |
I'm from the Modern board and you DO NOT speak for me. So drop the WE. Since this is the BETA version bare in mind that things will get fixed/added slowly. Personally I was disatisfied with the clunkiness and lack of features of the old forum. Now I have everything I need as a GM in one place. That's an excellent idea wheter you like it or not... |

Well, I am more than willing to exclude you from my generalization, We from the d20Modern board dont just blindly support garbage (except for Atanakar) just to avoid sounding negative. Once again you are more interested with «form/destroying» than «content/fixing». Writing that this place is garbage doesn't make it so. On the other hand writing what you want fixed in the community business section the forums would make more sense. BTW, you have NO proprietory rights over the Modern forum. Having registered before other people grants you no special privileges. I GM a Modern game, I legaly own all the books, I will keep posting here. |

Atankar You zealotly dismissed the guy telling you the QUOTE dont work right, .quote author="NavWeaps/Wiki/AnywhereButHere" . mk7 HC ./quote.
mk7 HC Good grief, we thought the BG formatting was hard...its 2009 and we cant get a board with a decent Quote Attrib function? |

|
| #65jenrockAug 28, 2009 16:16:20 |
I, too, am from the Modern Board... and you can feel free to continue speaking on my behalf, because I totally agree. There comes a point where constructive criticism must give way to candor, and this new forum sucks. At this point, I'd rather just keep on logging in once every two weeks. If this is the price of "Remember Me", screw it. |
| #66Cyber-DaveAug 28, 2009 18:34:07 |
You know, I don't particularly like the aesthetics of this new board (for a variety of reasons), and I still find your post offensive. Just because someone agrees with you, that doesn't make them wise. Just because someone doesn't agree with you, that doesn't make them riffraff. |
| #67RagitsuAug 28, 2009 19:31:46 | It appears we have a new spokesman. |
| #68atanakarAug 28, 2009 19:40:59 |
Cyber-Dave and Trappedslider have been posting constructive comments all around the boards to get some of the problems/issues fixed. Everytime I could I popped in to voice my support. We should all do the same. Wotc has already implimented changes. Keep the ball rolling folks. |
| #69backstabbistAug 29, 2009 0:57:23 | "We should all do the same."
I guess I was mistaken, I have the highest respect for TrappedSlider's abilities,
And still you fail to read plain text. Lean back away from the computer
BTW, nice work on demonstrating how well quote citing Wiki/NavWeaps works since I called you on it. Really shows how the new quote is so easy to change the built in byline |
| #70RagitsuAug 29, 2009 1:18:19 | I don't like saying this, but he does have a point, Atanakar.
Right before the boards switched over to this new format, you started getting a bit outwardly aggressive...and that PM you sent? What happened? |
| #71trappedsliderAug 29, 2009 1:19:09 |
I think you jsut gave me a reason to redo my sig with an ego area..... |
| #72narukagamiAug 29, 2009 1:27:47 | OK! OK! Look, the one thing I know we all, universally, certainly do NOT want happening is the Modern community getting into more in-fighting over a difference of opinion. |
| #73dbayAug 29, 2009 1:59:37 |
I agree. Let's fight over how we all agree with how we shouldn't fight over a difference of opinion- fighting over a unity in opinion will be so much better. Allow me to kick it off. I love d20! screw you guys and your pet cats who love d20 too. so there. But seriously. I really do agree with Narukagami here. Can't we all just get along? |
| #74Cyber-DaveAug 29, 2009 2:46:14 | Can't we all just get along? Somehow, I doubt it. I think too much bad blood has been built up between certain members (this includes myself) in this community. But I guess we will have to wait and see. I have certainly been trying to be civil. |
| #75atanakarAug 29, 2009 5:53:34 | Can't we all just get along? The anti Modern 4E campaign took its toll I guess. I admit my fuse has been short in the last few weeks.
@ragitsu : I my naive mind I was just intrigued and simply couldn't help asking. No more no less. |
| #76RagitsuAug 29, 2009 6:06:25 | Sometimes we forget there's a person on the other end |
| #77Cpt_MichaAug 29, 2009 6:14:08 | Give me back my Sblocks or give me Death! Hyperbole aside, the new forum organization is terrible.
|

Yes. Sblocks are high in demand across the board. I've made tabs in Firefox to avoid using the sub-forums paragraph format. WoTc has shown a willingness to change things in the last 24 hours. it may be they will change that to! |

Very pertinent ! Thanks for pointing this out. |
| #81Cyber-DaveAug 29, 2009 8:21:11 | Yea, I would be lying if I didn't say that that REALLY bothered me. I am "not amused" indeed. |
| #82RagitsuSep 13, 2009 17:51:37 | Do you know why history repeats itself? Because people forget their history. This thread is a keen example of that: it should be stickied, not shunted off the first page. |
| #83backstabbistSep 13, 2009 23:03:26 | I like the cool feature that make you click your bookmarked forum twice to get there. I mean, how did they know that I when I click on the d20Modern Forum bookmark This is so much handier than the bookmark you hit actually taking you to the page you bookmarked |

This happens to you too? To me, it's not devastating, but it is significantly annoying. What gives? |
| #85Cyber-DaveSep 13, 2009 23:33:24 | I don't know, but I often have that problem as well. It is pretty anoying. Still, all the neat features I have been able to make use of to create the Land of Nod wiki makes up for that in my eyes. |
| #86backstabbistSep 14, 2009 0:10:56 | The things done poorly on this board .... you do realize you are making it WoC's IP by posting it here... right? |
| #87Cyber-DaveSep 14, 2009 0:22:13 |
Considering the fact that I could never publish it anyways, because it is designed using the Star Wars Saga system, which was never covered by such things as GSL (or any other combination of letters that imply that 3rd party publishers have the right to make use of the material), I'm really not worried. What is more, if I really wanted to take the fluff of the Land of Nod, and publish it (which I have no desire to do), I promise you that my lawyers could ensure my ability to do so. Hell, I could walk over and delete my entire setting right now in a pre-emptive bid to publish the fluff of the Land of Nod if I really wanted to. I don't. I like having MY Land of Nod here in the WotC community. And I sort of understand WotC policy on intellectual property and the boards. Without that policy, they could potentially run into problems with posters on the boards coming up with similar ideas to fix existing problems with current products, and then creating a fuss about a lack of credit/payment come errata time/the release of future products that make use of said errata. And honestly, in recent weeks they have really been fixing this place up. As of right now, what issues I do have with this site do not out-weigh the benefits I feel that this site has over the old WotC forums. There are, however, some issues that still need to be worked out. Some things are still a little buggy. This is of course nothing but my subjective opinion. You are welcome to your own. |
| #88RagitsuSep 14, 2009 1:08:47 | Everyone can be bought off. It's just a question of how much, and of what. |
| #89Master_VegaSep 14, 2009 9:33:42 | Sorry if this has already been said, I really didn't want to read all nine pages of this discussion, but has anyone else gotten private messages from spam bots? I never had this problem on the old forum, but now I get more spam than actual mail. @_@ |
| #90trappedsliderSep 14, 2009 9:47:00 |
yes, just report it as spam..... |
| #91Cyber-DaveSep 14, 2009 11:01:21 |
I suppose its true, they kind of did "buy me off." But, since they didn't pay me any money, and what "bought me off" are the new (and in my opinion improved) features of this new forum, isn't that exactly the right reason for me to change my original opinion? Also, their very personable and helpful representatives who spent time with me specifically for the purpose of saving the original Land of Nod thread, so that it could be converted into a wiki, helped. That was exactly the sort of personal touch companies need to keep customers happy. It was awesome! But yea... |
| #92TheRealOrionSep 15, 2009 14:08:03 | Does anyone know why, every few days, when I hit the bookmark I set to this forum, it spits me back to the Wizards main page? It's really, really annoying and I'd like it to stop. Is there somewhere I can suggest they fix this bug? Help a guy out. |
| #93Master_VegaSep 15, 2009 14:47:09 |
Every few days? It happens every time I close the browser. @_@ |
| #94TheRealOrionSep 16, 2009 10:37:22 | Ah, that explains it. I'm on a mac laptop so I rarely close anything; I just put the system to sleep. What an incredible pain in the ass, though. I know where I'm going. I want to go there. I know that the rest of the Wizards site has a bunch of products that I'm not currently interested in. Le sigh... I really wish we could build an alternative forum. I mean, it's not that I don't appreciate the work that Wizards put into this one. Hosting this thing must be an incredible amount of ass-pain for them. But I also know I'd rather be somewhere where there's no copyright form to sign, where I can say the word "****" when it's appropriate (I mean, you can't even count the asterisks anymore!). I feel like I'm being treated like a child. But this is the only forum with any traffic. Again I say, le sigh... |
| #95narukagamiSep 16, 2009 11:39:43 | Personally I don't think the features gained are worth the features and functionality lost. To me, it feels like they took away our rusty, old, but mostly reliable pickup to trade it in for one with no wheels and a broken engine, but has new leather seats. Also, I've been dying to post my campaign setting stuff, but I don't as a matter of principal because I like owning my own ideas, even if I never plan on publishing it. |
| #96TheRealOrionSep 16, 2009 11:45:39 | Do what I do, post a link to a file. You can talk about the rules you post, but the rules themselves stay off-site. The chances are, by the way, that if any of your rules pertain to anything 3e-flavoured, there will never be any contestation on your "ownership." Copyright is a funny beast, after all. You don't really own anything. That's just a legal metaphor. What you have is a legally-derived right to attempt to personally sue someone who tries to copy and sell anything that you hold the copyright for. It's really a shame that everyone thinks of it in terms of ownership (including US law, read the statute!) because that makes people think it works in ways that it really doesn't. But I digress. Yes, the new board kind of blows. It's more marketing that community, more advertising that functionality. But are we really surprised? |

| #98narukagamiSep 16, 2009 11:52:36 | But thats where my objection gets all muddled and hypocritical. Its not the legality, I could care less about the legality. Its a fan project that rips off... er... "pays homage to" other sources with a lot of my own ideas. Its, like I said, the principal. I don't like being told by a big corporation "once you post them, all your creations our now ours!" Its a big turn off to me, even if it is effectivly meaningless. |
| #122RagitsuSep 17, 2009 18:16:36 | backstabbist, it's called "ignoring the past and hope it goes away". |
