Now my question: what do those numbers represent? Whether that number is feet, 5-foot squares, or miles per round or hour, the numbers don't make sense. Also, why the two different numbers? Is the first number real speed, and the second how you represent it during car chase situations? I would love someone to explain this to me. I'm running a solo adventure with my husband and he just acquired a car, so this will be coming up in game soon. (Also, for those who don't know, Darwin's is a post-apocalyptic D20 system. It's like a combination of D20 Modern, D20 Future, D20 Apocolypse (according to my husband...I've only played modern out of those three). So I guess my question might also apply to D20 Modern. Darwin's runs on the same rules as that for the most part. Not sure if the vehicle speeds are the same though.) |

| #5sbelcherDec 28, 2009 3:03:48 | it uses 10ft. for two reasons. |
| #6nobodez_hereDec 28, 2009 20:50:24 | Actually, it's 5 ft. squares and 50 ft. squares. That's the d20 Modern standard, and there's no reason they would have changed that for Darwin's World. For instance, in the d20 Modern Core Rulebook, the Ducatti 998R has a listed speed of 370 (37). That means it has a max speed of about 210 MPH when converted, which sounds about right for a Ducatti (well, a little slow really). A motorcycle that only does 250 feet per round tops out at about 28 MPH, much slower than you'd expect. |

Well, actually there is reason that could have changed for Darwin's. They're made by different companies. Darwin's has many of the same rules as D20 modern, but not all the same. So using a 10 foot square per round, it actually makes sense. That would have it going 150mph. Like sbelcher said, Darwin's vehicle combat often incorporates people on foot as well, so 10' squares are necessary to incorporate that. Also vehicles pretty much never reach that top speed, as the roads are mostly rubble from "The Fall" and thousands of years of not being repaired. So you can do smaller squares practically. |
