Is there somewhere that lists the appropriate Wealth bonus for higher-level characters? I'm building a bunch of NPCs and I'd like to just assign Wealth scores rather than having to do all the die rolling.

Edit: Found it! Core Manual, p204, Table 7-2: "Wealth Bonus by Level."

Note: My assumption is that these NPC's will be filling out empty spots in a party or working along-side them as equals. If I am incorrect, let me know so I can revise my advice to you.

My suggestion is to give them all the gear they should have to fill the role you are designing them for, then give them a wealth bonus of 2d4 + the reward for an encounter of their level. If that still seems too low, you can add in a single Profession check for their last level.

Actually, they're NPCs that I'm putting into the Phoenix handbook. The point of them is to act as convenient villains to slot into a game, or convenient helpers, as you say. So I can't really assign a Wealth bonus based on the game. I need one that's more generic.

I'm not familiar with Phoenix. Sorry.

I never looked until today. Sorry.

I still don't have an answer for you. I don't even know if you're using the d20 Modern wealth mechanic or tracking cash.

If they're villains, they probably won't be carrying their wallets/purses. Lord knows I wouldn't.

I said all of those things in the first message. Thanks anyway.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I could swear that somewhere, maybe in one of the expansion books, there's a table that lists standard Wealth bonuses for characters who are higher than 1st level. Anybody...?

Sorry about that. I didn't reread the OP after looking at your phoenix project. I see you found the table though.

Here's how I've always done it:
1.Figure out the NPC's role, and give them any gear they should/would have. (eg. weapons, computer, tools)
2.Add things to make the character unique (drives an erratic car, like a Beetle, smokes cubans, wears retro clothes, dresses like Doctor Who, uses old-fashioned weapons, etc.)
3.Now determine his wealth bonus after gear is chosen. Usually I pull the number off the table and add his occupation number, and make changes as necessary. (If I determine he's down and out despite once being rich, I dock it a few numbers)
4.Double-check everything. Make sure he has gear that is more or less fair. If you have a party of level ones using baseball bats and he has an m16, well, he will win in a fair fight. (which might be the point-the PCs might have to outsmart him) or if theyre level 10 using mastercraft guns and he has a knife (or a tank) then his challenge will be harder or easier, accordingly.

Seeing as how this is a superhero RPG, I like to give all the mooks spray-and-pray guns because its practically a necessity for the genre. the more bullets going downrange, the more reflex saves, the more Spider-Kid gets to dodge.

Unique NPCs typically get semi or single shot guns. That way, they actually have a chance of hitting. Because its fantastic, you can get away with giving them swords and cool things like that.

Evil Overlords usually have either a)A really archaic weapon but are totally pro with them (Mr. Negative from the new spiderman comics uses a katana sometimes, and has superstrength, so it works), b)an expensive pistol, or c)a supertech gadget weapon.

Mecha Pilot: No biggie, man. I figured you had just skimmed the first message.

DBay: I'm doing something very close to that. I just give them whatever equipment they need, specifically the kind of signature weapons/devices that you're talking about, and then slap the standard Wealth bonus on them. I don't expect people to actually use those Wealth scores all that much, but I figured they ought to be there in the sample NPCs.
