| #1brokenoakleysMar 15, 2008 16:10:13 | Is it just me, or does Russell the strong hero dress like a dork? What is up with the yellow raincoat? And the yellow flip flops strapped to his boots? He reminds me of this crazy guy in a town I used to live in. He'd walk around with a Katana strapped to his back staring at people. The police couldn't arrest him because the Katana wasn't concealed. He also drive around in a beat up pickup truck with a trampoline on the back. Every once in a while he'd stop and do gymnastics performances. When he was driving around he'd mutter into an electric bullhorn strapped to the top of his truck. Nobody could understand a word he was saying. Maybe that guy was the inspiration for Russell. |
| #2winternovaMar 15, 2008 17:24:54 | Yeah, Russell is one goofy dude, but I definitely wouldn't say that to his face. Guy like that would be liable to Extreme Effort my lower lip over my head. |
| #3backstabbistMar 16, 2008 3:20:33 | Maybe he is one of them enviromentalists that, to cut back on manufacturing polution & landfill mass, only wear clothing they find in dumpsters. That has got to be the worst coat in the history of all gaming. But you pick your dump stat & pay the price... and the Cha Dump will cost you a dorky coat, bad haircut, and shoes that retards wouldnt wear. |
| #4crwydrynyMar 16, 2008 8:24:08 | I just grabed the rule bok to check what you said. my opinion is it's not a rain coat as it's too short (I'm assuming when you say raincoat that you're refering to those yellow banana suit oilskins that fishermen are known to wear) it does appear to have somesort of badge on the sleve so I'm guessing it's some sort of gang fashion or working jacket (or maybe he just likes yellow) as for the flipflops atached to his boots. I think they are working boots like those used by builder or firemen (the strap could be a buckle or even a grounding strap) I know I used to have to wear something simalar when I worked in a factory a few years ago. or maybe it's just he hasn't been brainwashed by corprate advertising campaigns and dresses how he wants to dress and not wear what everyone says is cool just becuse the latest pop star is wearing such cloathes (if that's the case then I take my hat off to him) |
| #5aspiring_lichlordMar 16, 2008 11:06:31 | those ain't flip-flops, that's the boot, and the jacket looks like it's cold weather gear, and beside it's his costume for the SC campaign setting |
| #6backstabbistMar 16, 2008 12:27:11 | wear what everyone says is cool just becuse the latest pop star is wearing such cloathes Army feildjackets are not cool because the latest 15min of fame star is wearing one; it is the Popstar that is cool because they are wearing an army fieldjacket. Always wear the field jacket, cause every couple of years fashion will make you really cool, without you having to buy a bunch of junk every 3 months trying to keep up with fashion. ... Maybe Russel didnt make Cha his dump, from choosing to wear that outfit it appears Wisdom is his weakness. ![]() |
| #7valenteinMar 16, 2008 21:15:44 | I always figured that was a mastercraft leather jacket, care of the Knights of the Silver Dragon (the owners of the insignia on the side), and is that horrid colour because it repels displacer beasts. |
| #8necroticbananaMar 17, 2008 0:27:24 | I always figured that was a mastercraft leather jacket, care of the Knights of the Silver Dragon (the owners of the insignia on the side), and is that horrid colour because it repels displacer beasts. ...also repels attractive members of the opposite sex...hell any sex...bugbears included lol |
| #9nodaishoMar 17, 2008 19:15:25 | If it keeps the bugbears away, it is worth any cost. Well, those and the airheaded former cheerleaders (will save DC 25 or take 1d6+1 permanent points of int damage for each minute spent listening to them). |
| #10necroticbananaMar 17, 2008 20:16:48 | If it keeps the bugbears away, it is worth any cost. Well, those and the airheaded former cheerleaders (will save DC 25 or take 1d6+1 permanent points of int damage for each minute spent listening to them). sorry, i'm afraid i'd have to pass on that bit of loot, i dont care how dumb they are...in fact, i prefer them stupid..makes em easier to catch..but thats just me, and has nothing to do with gaming LOL ...MOVING ON!! |
| #11jonathanchanceMar 18, 2008 18:29:05 | ...also repels attractive members of the opposite sex...hell any sex...bugbears included lol Check out page 188, the picture of the iconics at the movie theater. It's obvious that his jacket does not repel members of the opposite sex. |
| #12brokenoakleysMar 18, 2008 18:49:42 | Yeah, but she's covering her face with both hands. My guess is: "I can't believe my co-workers set me up with this loser...oh I'm going to just die of embarassment...and why does he have to prop his stupid flip flop boots up on the chair...everybody can see them..." And Russell just sits there with a cocky look, just knows he's gonna score. |
| #13winternovaMar 18, 2008 21:00:19 | Yeah, but she's covering her face with both hands. BOTH hands? Maybe I'm blind, but I see ONE hand over her face, and the other hand clutching his goofy jacket in a gesture that screams 'ohmygodsaveme!' and Russell is like 'chill out, baby!' I wonder who that is, anyway. Alexandra? Lily? Roberta's too much of a square, and Stephanie's probably in the slammer. ...and did Brandon sneak in a flask or something? He looks a little messed up. Maybe Yoriko decked him for pulling the old yawning maneuver. Brandon probably dumped charisma, that's for sure. Either that or constitution. After all, her knuckle sandwiches are probably pretty low-cal, if you follow me... |
| #14backstabbistMar 19, 2008 2:08:41 | "I can't believe my co-workers set me up with this loser ![]() What a stunning conversation about KnowlegeTactics he could provide |
| #15brokenoakleysMar 19, 2008 13:10:14 | You're right. It IS one hand. I was looking in the post 4E D20 modern book somebody left on my front door in a plain brown parcel. They changed the picture in that one. |
| #16backstabbistApr 01, 2008 17:03:49 | It occurs to me that Russell couldnt make CHA his dump stat, he is the Field Officer and they need CHA. So it just proves that high bonuses can offset the circumstance penaties on rolls, just as Russells CHA offsetts the penalties from his flipflop boots & fishsticks jacket |
| #17brokenoakleysApr 03, 2008 0:05:25 | More likely Queer Eye for a Straight Guy got a hold of him. How else do you explain the field officer get up? |
| #18backstabbistApr 03, 2008 0:27:20 | But that pic proves he didnt Dump Cha, he was able to comand that mech to rip its own head off.... cause he obviously didnt cut a 8' thick neck with a 3' sword. |
| #19lonewolf_the_hunterApr 03, 2008 2:43:49 | It occurs to me that Russell couldnt make CHA his dump stat, While it is possible that Charisma was not Russell's dump it is also possible that it was, after all with the exception of d20past, the manuals don't give us any hint when each Iconic character took the advanced class they are modeling, also with occupations and the complete lack of multiclass restrictions it would be no trouble at all for Russell to pick up the Diplomacy ranks needed to become a Field officer. |
| #20lonewolf_the_hunterApr 03, 2008 2:48:14 | You're right. It IS one hand. I was looking in the post 4E D20 modern book somebody left on my front door in a plain brown parcel. They changed the picture in that one. Are you joking or serious (about the post 4e manual i mean). It isn't always easy to tell when you can't see or here the person you're talking to. Although for my money the look on Russell's face seems to say that he's the one not enjoying the date. |
| #21brokenoakleysApr 22, 2008 13:44:02 | I was joking about the 4e d20 modern manual anonymously left on my door in a brown paper bag. |
| #22lonewolf_the_hunterApr 22, 2008 14:42:29 | That's what I thought. |
| #23freefall357Apr 22, 2008 16:51:55 | So it just proves that high bonuses can offset the circumstance penaties on rolls, just as Russells CHA offsetts the penalties from his flipflop boots & fishsticks jacket :D - OR, his Charisma and therefore style is so far beyond us we just can not cope with reality and instead see a strong dork. (Urban Arcana explanation there, BAM!) - On that note...can someone photoshop him into the Personality Advanced Class pic LoL! *print & gluestick*. |
| #24backstabbistApr 22, 2008 21:20:30 | You seen him working the red carpet at Oscar Night?![]() You can dress him up, but he is still a caveman |
| #25freefall357Apr 22, 2008 22:24:10 | You can dress him up, but he is still a caveman - Damn...that is sexy... |
| #26deadsquidwalkingApr 23, 2008 0:04:44 | Maybe he benefits from the Badass Fashion Exemption clause: the more badass you are, the more you can get away with wearing a ridiculous outfit :P |
| #27freefall357Apr 23, 2008 12:04:19 | Maybe he benefits from the Badass Fashion Exemption clause: the more badass you are, the more you can get away with wearing a ridiculous outfit :P Cited precedence: Bruce Willis : 5th Element (Blaze orange beater and gray life -jacket vest?) |
| #28backstabbistJan 22, 2009 9:24:00 | If there is a new Modern in the works, will it be like Tomb Raider: new releases mean the characters get new outfits. Maybe Russel will catch a fashion break in the next book |
| #29nclancemanJan 22, 2009 12:22:19 | Gosh, I must have horrible taste; I don't get this entire thread. And I wouldn't put down that jacket, since it clearly adds some serious bonuses to Hide.![]() And possibly adds +2 to Murderation. ![]() And I'm kinda serious about that Murderation bonus. He's not nearly as confident without it. Wearing a Mastercraft Artifact Leather Jacket for the past bazillion years and suddenly doing without can do that. ![]() Also, can anyone remember if that was cool in 2002? |
| #30RagitsuJan 22, 2009 12:40:21 | I found it funny that Russell was the example of the Stealthy feat, considering Strong Heroes don't get Hide or Move Silently (not counting Occupations). |
| #31nclancemanJan 22, 2009 12:43:18 | Well, he does have the Military Occupation.![]() |
| #32backstabbistJan 22, 2009 12:45:03 | But with the Stelth feat his Hide skill goes up by +2, bringing it up to to what... +2 total? What Hide Bonus do you get for wearing Green & Yellow with Red bandana? +2 TrafficLight Camo for urban adventures? Military Occ = Cut your hair and get a real job |
| #33RagitsuJan 22, 2009 12:45:34 | It's that dude from the Resident Evil movie !But with the Stelth feat his Hide skill goes up by +2, No one complains when Wolverine hides in yellow spandex ;). |
| #34Cyber-DaveJan 22, 2009 15:20:31 | No one complains when Wolverine hides in yellow spandex ;). Actually, I think some movie exec somewhere did... hence the lack of yellow spandex in the movies. :P |
| #35RagitsuJan 22, 2009 17:14:24 | They get one thing right, and everything else wrong. Great . |
| #36RavingDorkJan 22, 2009 23:27:30 | Why does Russell wear a raincoat? To keep the blood off. :D I thought it was obvious with Russell being a Strong Hero and all. :P |
| #37nodaishoJan 22, 2009 23:30:16 | Can someone ID that gun in the military occupation photo? Looks like someone was attempting to draw an H&K G41, or something similar. |
| #38RagitsuJan 23, 2009 12:21:21 | Actually, the last Russell image is for the Soldier Advanced Class, not the Military Occupation. That said, the gun looks like some sort of assault rifle amalgam. |
| #39backstabbistJan 23, 2009 13:22:53 | I think that gun just dont live up to its fluff text
Amalgum Arms AR2 5.56 Assault Rifle pl5 Size Large Weight 8lb Damage 2d8 RI 80 Rate S,A Ammo 30 Mag PDC 17 The AR2 is the finest advancement in firearms technology in the 20th century. It shoots farther and straighter than any other rifle, and delivers more damage to the target with both a higher power round and more ammo capacity. Being lighter and smaller than all other similar guns makes the AR2 popular with the troops, and the low cost makes it popular with the military. Overall, the Amalgum AR2 is simply better than all other weapons ever.
But hey, like any of the others do... |
| #40nclancemanJan 23, 2009 15:01:10 | I think that gun just dont live up to its fluff text Funny, that sounds like FN marketing... |
| #41trappedsliderJan 23, 2009 15:07:57 | Funny, that sounds like FN marketing... I swear at one point or another every thread here ends up either being a debate about armor *eyes the iowa battleship* or the FN or both |
| #42Cyber-DaveJan 23, 2009 15:14:47 | Its not our fault that according to the logic of d20 Modern one would be better served strapping a motor to a 10-20th level character armed with an FN instead of using an Iowa battleship... :P |
| #43RagitsuJan 23, 2009 15:29:41 | Hey! Russell is missing a leg. |
| #44nclancemanJan 23, 2009 15:31:33 | Its not our fault that according to the logic of d20 Modern one would be better served strapping a motor to a 10-20th level character armed with an FN instead of using an Iowa battleship... :P .... Where's my copy of Cyberscape? |
| #45the_almighty_druJan 24, 2009 11:58:53 | He reminds me of this crazy guy in a town I used to live in. He'd walk around with a Katana strapped to his back staring at people. The police couldn't arrest him because the Katana wasn't concealed. This reminds me of a guy I saw behind McDonald's once. He was dirty and shaggy, and was wearing one flip flop and one boot. He had just taken some cardboard out of the McDonald's dumpster. My friend and I joked that he was from the future (don't ask where we got that from) and that he came back in time to gather cardboard, which is (or rather will be) a precious commodity in the future. That comes up constantly in games now. |
| #46trappedsliderJan 24, 2009 12:04:21 | Hey! I noticed that too...... |
| #47backstabbistJan 24, 2009 12:55:22 | The yellow jacket is wrapped around that leg, so we cant see it due to the hide bonus it confers |
| #48RagitsuJan 24, 2009 13:13:21 | A group of post-apocalyptic nomads spend some downtime enjoying a fine game of softball. |
| #49narukagamiJan 24, 2009 13:20:56 | CAN'T UNSEE! |
| #50RagitsuJan 24, 2009 13:24:49 | I can't unsee the sumo underwear the far right marauder is wearing. |
| #51Cyber-DaveJan 24, 2009 14:50:18 | Its sort of like Where is Waldo, except you see the thing right away, and afterwords you spend the rest of your picture viewing experience trying to look anywhere else BUT at the warty rotting zombie mutant posterior... Oh, my god... |
| #52nclancemanJan 24, 2009 14:53:11 | Ladies and gentlemen, SAN loss. |
| #53RagitsuJan 24, 2009 15:14:04 | Russell is...![]() The Last Samurai You'll have to excuse my picture editing skills, they aren't as refined as backstabbist's. |
| #54nclancemanJan 24, 2009 15:14:51 | ... I'd watch that. |
| #55trappedsliderJan 24, 2009 15:37:01 | you all need professionial help,sadly the MM doesn't list mind doctors.... |
| #56backstabbistJan 24, 2009 20:30:01 | Of course he would be a Samurai, he cant be a ninja because he doesnt have his Fishsticks jacket or silly boots to help his stealth skills. |
| #57RagitsuJan 24, 2009 20:56:19 | ![]() Trust the Russell's Fisherman! |
| #58RavingDorkJan 24, 2009 21:45:49 |
It keeps the blood off! :D |
| #59RagitsuJan 24, 2009 21:58:48 | Is Russell really the only poorly dressed Hero? Brandon's pink and black shirt seems iffy to me... |
| #60backstabbistJan 24, 2009 23:05:21 | It keeps the blood off! are you kidding? That jacket is totally stained by yellow demon blood he even had to put patches over the holes from alien acid blood |
| #61gordjohnsonJan 25, 2009 2:46:13 | Is anyone else seeing those buttless chaps on the right side of the picture? |

| #65RagitsuJan 25, 2009 16:22:25 | ![]() --- It's Russell's father. |
| #66backstabbistJan 25, 2009 19:37:10 | If >> SCORPIO << can dress like a normal person, why cant Russell? btw: the fan in my laptop decided to change from a dynamic to static object, so I can only run the laptop till it heats up .... pretty much right after booting I need to shut it down and blow into the vents. The bad news is, it is a $70 blower. The good news is, I wont be out that $70 cause its out of stock Pulls all the places I looked. |
| #67RagitsuJan 25, 2009 20:10:54 | Can't you put the laptop in a freezer, pull up a stool, and be good to go? |

| #72nobodez_hereJan 26, 2009 0:27:41 | After some serious Google-fu, I found out what was up with Russell. He's wearing Motorcycle boots.![]() Sure he's gone with black leather and tan hardware, but once you realize that it's not yellow he's wearing, but tan, it makes more sense. As for the jacket, it's actually two jackets. The motorcycle riding jacket. ![]() And a standard grey hoodie. Add in the chainmail (in brown, tan, yellow, or grey, your choice depending on the picture), and the undershirt (probably some sort of UnderArmorā). |
| #73RagitsuJan 26, 2009 0:32:13 | nobodez! Long time no see . |
| #74backstabbistJan 26, 2009 0:49:23 | narukagami- thanx, I was thinking of making a sidemount suckerfan, and looks like that link has one ready to go. More importantly, it looks like a thin blower that I might be able to strip & use as a replacement internal fan .... with a heapin helpin of RedNeck Tech & doodadery |
| #75iron_stomachFeb 04, 2009 18:53:57 | He reminds me of this crazy guy in a town I used to live in. He'd walk around with a Katana strapped to his back staring at people. The police couldn't arrest him because the Katana wasn't concealed. I wish somebody like this lived near me. What's wrong with russel's outfit? I like the jacket, especially the cool dragon patch. |
| #76degausserFeb 04, 2009 19:43:40 | Russel always struck me a guy who lived in the poor side of town. He ran around with scavenged clothing (like that rank yellow jacket and those boots) and put all of his (admittedly small) wealth into buying stuff for his hunt against the shadow creatures (such as buying a longsword and some chain mail) Anyway, that's how I pictured him. Anyway, check out my sig for stats that were developed for all 12 iconic characters. Sadly, you can't post there anymore because it has been sent to the archives. |
