| #1killswitchxxxMar 08, 2009 14:53:04 | I think my title is self explanatory. But i would go into a subway or if i had the resources i would go into a home depot or a wall mart or a mall if i had enough people. where would you go? |
| #2nclancemanMar 08, 2009 15:18:22 | The Tower. |
| #3malburMar 08, 2009 15:53:31 | The Tower. Seconded. |
| #4jje6421Mar 08, 2009 16:14:55 | personally in my town the old Junior High locker room was built to WW2 bombshelter standards for the emergency shelter of people, independant ventilation, 2 exits with 2" thick steel reinforced doors, not alot of space but do able. gymnasium directly above that doubled as the lunchroom / ie kitchen, down sides the main doors to the gym would take alot to barricade up as they are double entry doors and 3 sets wide. The biggest up side is not many people know it was built this way. I did a Journalism report on the history of the school, found out alot of good stuff about it. |
| #5killswitchxxxMar 08, 2009 16:52:38 | haha nice i would do the same if i went into my highschool for a safe house it just wouldnt work there really isnt any protection or anything there. |
| #6magusblackMar 08, 2009 17:22:33 | What type of zombies are we talking here? Romero’s weak zombies, Resident Evil’s biological infection, D&D’s Fantasy Zombies…or the real life voodoo zombies? If it was me, any place with enough supplies to last ten people for at least half a year would be preferable, traditional mall or major center of commerce; a battleship could be a defensible location to but the most important part is supplies: any form of gadgetry, along with food and (hopefully) some medical supplies. If you can build a defense up first then a major counterattack becomes possible and from there a slow systematic progression towards retaking the whole city/town/village. |
| #7killswitchxxxMar 08, 2009 17:51:18 | i would say just regular zombies probably romeos but yeah thats a good idea if you were able to get about 30 people then it would work out well doing a counterattack on a small town or something |
| #8atanakarMar 08, 2009 20:00:57 | I would go up North, near Hudson Bay (Canada), hoping the cold would keep them from reaching me... I could live off the natural ressources for a long time. |
| #9AnimeSniperMar 08, 2009 20:58:22 | Or if you have forewarning, i.e. things in the media adding to zombie-dom take out several loans buy an old government ICBM facility and refurbish it... plant security measures around the compound while installing gardens and other means of self-sustainment... and don't forget to bulk up on ammo and firearms. |
| #10Waylan_WolfMar 09, 2009 12:41:50 | If there were a zombie invasion inside a city, I would go OUTside the city, so that I wouldn't be in the blast radius of the Nuke that the government would invariably drop to contain the outbreak.;) :P :D ![]() |
| #11magusblackMar 09, 2009 17:37:21 | If there were a zombie invasion inside a city, I would go OUTside the city, so that I wouldn't be in the blast radius of the Nuke that the government would invariably drop to contain the outbreak.;) :P :D One of the many dangers of living in a zombie-infested (or soon to be at least) world; Mega-stupid people (stupid people allowed it to happen, these idiots try 'fixing' it by killing everyone ). There's always the threat of some trigger-happy G.I. Joe-wannabe or nut-case relgious idiot trying to 'purge' the unclean...along with the simple-minded raiders to add to the list of enemies......Thinking about it, the major problem with living in a Zombie-horror film isnt the zombies its the normal, stupid people that get everyone killed... |
| #12Waylan_WolfMar 09, 2009 17:42:59 | I guess it really depends on the answer to this question: Is the zombie invasion limited to the one city, or is it a world wide rising of the dead? The first can be contained, the second can't. ![]() |
| #13MechaPilotMar 09, 2009 23:41:03 | Police station. Has guns, ammo, a limited food supply, toilet paper, and a radio for calling for help. Plus, people trained with firearms who are indoctrinated to "serve and protect". But i don't live near a military base. |
| #14eruditeMar 12, 2009 19:41:07 | Assuming large-scale collapse of the region or beyond: Avoid the following places: 1 - Police Stations - initially zombies will be mistaken for criminals. They will be brought to the station. So will various real troublemakers, and any survivor seeking help and safety. You can bet there will be infected there, and lots of people, which means noise and food to attract zombie hordes. 2 - Hospitals - sick and dead people end up here. That means zombies. Stay far away. Raid for supplies when it is deserted, if you must, but be careful. 3 - DEM shelters and refugee camps. For the same reason you avoid the above. 4 - Government installations - Unless you have someway of belongning (ie. Military, political connections) you are probably someone who will be packed off to #3 at some point, shot by a nervous soldier, or restricted in you freedom to maintain security. Too risky. Do the following: Lay low. You can't win an all out fight against a horde of the dead. Knock out the stairs in a two-story home or apartment with axes. Stock up on supplies, wait for the initial mass exodus to end, then head to the hinterlands (see below). IF you have fair warning, head to the hinterlands before things get that bad. - Don't fight the dead. There may be a time or place to carry the fight to the zombies, but the first few weeks are not it. Quietly kill undead who find your hidey hole, and be ready to go to another one you have selected earlier as a back up if you are discovered. - If the dead don't get you the living will...you need help, but should already have contacted those you can trust. Stupid, panicked, or vicious people should be avoided. All people are stupid, panicked, or vicious until proven otherwise. EXODUS When leaving the confines of your (sub)urban home, go by bicycle. Have a planned route and have some idea where you will stay each night if possible. Try to avoid sleeping in cities. Head to the Hinterlands. Rough, wild terrain not on a direct path between major population centers and at least several hours drive through off-road conditions from ANY population centers. You will be unlikely to be stumbled on by zombies wandering from city to city looking for an increasingly dwindling food supply. You are also not likely to be found by raiders. Raiders will kill you as much as any horde of zombies. They will also ****/eat/torture you as well. Good hinterlands: northern Canada (not south of Hudson Bay), unpopulated islands WAY off the coast (hundreds of miles), etc. Get used to the fact that you will have to grow your own food, pull your own teeth, birth babies, and generally be self-sufficient. ENDGAME Wait for the zombies to decay. This can take anywhere from several months to years, depending on climatic conditions. You also need to wait for raiders to kill themselves off. Take a decade off to isolate yourself. -Have a zed day! |
| #15johannixxMar 12, 2009 21:14:13 | Yup, my first move would be to pack up my truck with all my guns, ammo, and pre-selected survival kit, and drive the hell out of the city by backroads. I can fend for myself and my family in the mountains; hard to do it in a big city. |
| #16undead_jedMar 12, 2009 22:42:36 | I was going to voice my opinion, but I couldn't possibly do any better than Erudite. That was perfect. If any kind of planning is impossible, a good general rule is to avoid populated areas. Zombies will go where the food is. I live in a small rural town with just under 1200 people. The nearest "city", with a population of roughly 50,000, is 14 miles east of me connected by an extreamly busy highway due to there being an Indian Casino further up the vally, and the state capitol another 30 miles Southeast with a population of around 460,000 people. Personally, I'll be heading west into the foothills where I know of a ranger station that used to do tours. Not sure if they still do. But there's likely to be something of use there and it's the highest point without going further into the mountains. I know where all the mom and pop stores are and if worse comes to worst I could always turn to the casino for food, but that would be asking for trouble and it would likely already have been stripped or destroyed since they have their own busses, gas station, and a ton of parked cars at any given time. If nothing else, I could easily survive on the local wildlife, rodents after that. An air rifle would come in handy, I think, since I'm one to believe excessive noise might attract the zombies just as well as living flesh would. |
