| #1icuallDec 19, 2008 13:00:44 | Why is not there a Modern tile/link on the main Message board page like it used to be? Is it planned to be retired? |
| #2RagitsuDec 19, 2008 13:02:14 | Out of sight, out of mind. |
| #3icuallDec 19, 2008 13:04:00 | You are in Oregon, why don't you take a drive north to WA and give them a good talking to? We need to set them straight. ![]() |
| #4narukagamiDec 19, 2008 13:56:46 | As far as WotC is concerned d20 Modern is dead. We the community just seem to have a different opinion ;). Its actually a miracle this board still exists. Probably because our post count is acceptable enough to stay in business, and/or a unique enough subject matter that prevents us from getting lumped into a bunch of other "dead" boards like my old friend the OA board did. Though, the OA board got so little traffic in its death it was just "Ask Narukagami," since I seemed to be one of the only 4-5 people that posted there regularly at all. |
| #5RagitsuDec 19, 2008 14:33:23 | You are in Oregon, why don't you take a drive north to WA and give them a good talking to? We need to set them straight. I'm probably the least qualified spokesperson for the d20 Modern community .Though, the OA board got so little traffic in its death it was just "Ask Narukagami," since I seemed to be one of the only 4-5 people that posted there regularly at all. I've had that book for nearly two years now: perhaps I should actually use it? :P |
| #6Luis_CarlosDec 19, 2008 15:08:29 | I rebember the "silent" about the Star Wars d20 rpg... until the new Star Wars Saga was announced. WotC wants a d20 Modern (for a G.I.Joe rpg, Transformer rpg, superheroes rpg..), but... now it´s a bad year for business and economy, and d20M needs a lot of playtesting. |
| #7trappedsliderDec 19, 2008 15:15:32 | We've been told that hopefully WotC plans a relaunch of D20 modern at some point in 09 and why the forum is still here, I think its due in part to my effects to make sure no harm comes upon it and the out cry of the forum goers during the re-orginzations |
| #8powercatDec 20, 2008 8:16:00 | From a business perspective, the most likely reason for the discontinuation of the d20 Modern line is this: d20 Modern was not making as much money per dollar invested in it as other WotC products. This is not to say that it was losing money, just that the return on WotC's investment was not as good as, for instance, Dungeons and Dragons. I believe our best hope for a relaunch of the line is for someone at WotC to decide ceding the "generic" RPG market to GURPS is a bad business decision. Personally, GURPS seems like a very good system. I just wish they didn't use those damn hexes. I can't buy a pad of hex paper at Staples for a trivial amount like I can graph paper. And, as different as d20 Modern is from D&D 4E, it's still, "Roll a d20, add modifiers, higher is better." |
| #9ranger_regDec 21, 2008 15:48:50 | I rebember the "silent" about the Star Wars d20 rpg... until the new Star Wars Saga was announced. Correct. Star Wars RPG have been in hiatus for at least two years before WotC finally rolled out the Saga Edition. During that time, many fans have pretty much written it as being "dead in space." WotC wants a d20 Modern (for a G.I.Joe rpg, Transformer rpg, superheroes rpg..), but... now it´s a bad year for business and economy, and d20M needs a lot of playtesting. It's not just the reasons above. 2008 is all about debuting 4e. As trappedslider mentioned, 2009 may be the Year of d20 Modern (or whatever new title it may be). |
| #10backstabbistDec 22, 2008 10:45:34 | As trappedslider mentioned, 2009 may be the Year of d20 Modern (or whatever new title it may be). I just hope I dont have to buy a bunch of new dice to play WoC 2009 modern 50bmg: The Nerfing |
| #11trappedsliderDec 22, 2008 13:03:44 | I just hope I dont have to buy a bunch of new dice to play WoC 2009 modern no,you'll just need a calculator to play D20 Accountant:P |
| #12narukagamiDec 22, 2008 13:08:46 | No, because that wouldn't be CINIMATIC and COOL! You have to have heroes with 157hp at level 1, and all guns do 1d6+dex damage now! You have cool powers like "CURVE THE BULLET BY FLICKING YOUR WRIST!" and "FLICK THE GUN AS YOU SHOOT TO MAKE THE BULLET COME OUT FASTER!" It'll be AWESOME! /sarcasm *dies* |
| #13trappedsliderDec 22, 2008 13:12:43 | No, because that wouldn't be CINIMATIC and COOL! You have to have heroes with 157hp at level 1, and all guns do 1d6+dex damage now! | #15RagitsuDec 23, 2008 1:50:11 | It will be ignored no longer. YES! . |
| #16trappedsliderDec 23, 2008 2:05:17 | Wuss. did you get the head...otherwise theres still a risk |
| #17backstabbistDec 23, 2008 2:20:05 | no,you'll just need a calculator to play D20 Accountant what... who doesnt have a good time using the CharitableDonation feat as Deduction Of Opportunity in a pvp AuditMatch.... just watch out for GMs that allow -4 CallShot to the 401k as a house rule |
| #18trappedsliderDec 23, 2008 2:22:05 | what... THATS IT when i get back around to it your getting "GMs D20 accountant" |
| #19atanakarDec 27, 2008 8:05:34 | FACT: Modern 2.0 is NOT in the books in 2009. The WoTC 2009 product schedule is out and there is no mention of Modern. OPTION: Since I prefer SF anyway I'm switching to the more «elegant» SWSE system for my next campaign. |
| #20azisienDec 27, 2008 10:51:06 | Griping will do nothing. Constructive support is all we can do. Modern is the most wicked thing to come out of 3e, it's great! |
| #21atanakarDec 27, 2008 11:29:33 | Griping will do nothing. Stating a verifiable fact is not griping and it IS constructive. Wishfull thinking or self delusion does not make something true...;) I'm simply questionning Trappeslider assertion that Wotc has plans for Modern in 2009. If I remember correctly the actual comment was made around the time D&D4E came out in the Spring. Maybe they decided to push back Modern 2.0 because of the current economic crisis on concentrate on D&D. It would make sense. @ Trappeslider : any new info ? |
| #22trappedsliderDec 27, 2008 11:50:06 | Stating a verifiable fact is not griping and it IS constructive. Wishfull thinking or self delusion does not make something true...;) does it say what they are going to be working on in 09?;) The comment was from C. Perkins who said they would be working on it in the new year |
| #23narukagamiDec 27, 2008 13:33:06 | Remember folks: The original mention of modern said MAYBE they'd do something with it in '09. |
| #24azisienDec 27, 2008 14:18:17 | Hey I left for forums for a few months and come back and every third thread is "Wha wha why no d20 Modern support" - I call it griping, whining etc. Sure there's regular folk answering the whining matter-of-factly, but it's akin to giving candy to the screaming kid in the grocery store. Except instead of candy, it's like...Oatmeal? Since no d20 Modern plans for 2009 != candy. |
| #25narukagamiDec 27, 2008 14:19:35 | Every third thread? There is only one on the front page. |
| #26azisienDec 27, 2008 14:30:24 | True, looks like I just have bad luck. The four threads I've caught up on, most peeps ask a question and get a flood of "Oh d20 Modern sucks at that, use this!" or "WotC sucks, use this!" Also I exaggerate everything to the maxima, it's more fun that way. |
| #27narukagamiDec 27, 2008 14:35:44 | "Oh d20 Modern sucks at that, use this!" or "WotC sucks, use this!" Well, usually the things that people are asking about are, in fact, the things that just don't work well in d20 Modern. The d20 Modern boards have always been focused on and generally accepting of houserules and fixing whats broken, its something one would have to learn to accept at these boards. Also I exaggerate everything to the maxima, it's more fun that way. Sometimes its not good to exaggerate, it can come across as insulting or with more ill-intent than you intended. |
| #28Cyber-DaveDec 27, 2008 14:42:43 | Also Dias Ex Machina is putting forward a lot of Modern era 4th edition material. So, for people like me who feel that both SWSE and 4e has something to offer in regards to Modern era games (depending on the sort of game and style of game one wants to run), one can also check out what Dias Ex Machina is working on. Amethyst looks awesome, and the company has just made some statements that suggest that their next unveiled project might be straight sci-fi (with no fantasy involved). |
| #29atanakarDec 27, 2008 21:10:20 | does it say what they are going to be working on in 09?;) The comment was from C. Perkins who said they would be working on it in the new year I see... So nothing until 2010 if you allow for creation, play test, final proofing and printing time. @azisien : You asume too much. I never said Modern D20 sucked. I said I found SWSE more elegant. Not the same time. I own every single modern book and have been running a successfull Apocalypse/Future campaign for the last 4.5 years. The campaign will end in September 2009. I was hoping Modern 2.0 would be out by then to start my next campaign... Instead I will switch to SWSE and do a full SF saga:First draft : http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1122493 |
| #30Bloodlust1997Jan 02, 2009 23:24:49 | not to mention there is another company out there that has updated quite a bit of d20 modern stuff.... I believe the company is rpbobjects ? I cant remember off hand. |
| #31Cyber-DaveJan 03, 2009 0:06:27 | So Dias Ex Machina's new project is a d20 Future 4e project. Specifically, its a 4e compliant Cyberpunk setting. |
| #32myusernameisJan 11, 2009 22:18:15 | Chances are, if they do anything with D20 Modern in the future it will be based on 4e and end up as the demented lovechild of Rainbow Six and Wanted. Could be awesome, really. |
