| #1agyFeb 20, 2008 23:07:01 | Hi wandering if anyone has any ideas on some diferent zombie encounters my campaine is set where the apocalypse has just happened and the about 80% of the world population has been turned into zombies. So as for encounters PC's come across a crashed swat van, All the swat members have been turned and are locked inside, so the PC's have to decide if its worth letting out the fully armoured swat zombies to get all that lovely gear. This one's from extiction The Pc's recieve a radio message reporting survivors when they get there the survivors are redneck canibles and the group has to fight there way out So just wondering if anyone had any ideas thanx |

It has all the pcs need--food, shelter, good protection, medical supplies--but it is run by religious fanatics who will want the pcs to stay and convert to their cult. If the pcs flee the group hunt them down--they want no unbelievers knowing the existence of the site! 2. A group of zombies who are children. (schoolbus, orphanage, whatever) 3. The zombie master--a strange lonely man has found that if you feed zombies human body parts deliberately they will become friendly--sort of. 4. The mall--stereotypical 'the mall dwellers' situation, except that the mall dwellers are already there, armed, and don't want anyone else around. 5. The doomsday preacher--besieged on top of some building, or monument, and calling out in an increasingly hoarse voice various parts of the Book of Revelation or whatever appropriate faith's apocalypse. 6. Fire sweeps through an abandoned town, raging violently. Vast clouds of smoke and flames make passing through confusing and terrifying. 7. Flooding in a major river--with locks and dams untended flooding spreads through over roads and towns, creating dangerous passage and blocking travel in some areas. 8. Chemical leak--lack of people observing safety proceedures causes a dangerous gas leak. The pcs find that the zombies in some town or part of a city all died of the same thing, or possibly simply feel symptons and have to respond to them and get the hell out. |
| #3eadFeb 21, 2008 9:34:41 | Another some of encounters: 1. One of the PC has been bitten by a zombie, do they have the courage to kill him/her???. 2. The PC's must find some school children in a schoolbus, before the zombies gets to them. 3. The PC's has found a secret underground base, in there, they will find out that the base was used for really dark experiments. 4. The PC's stand on the lookout for a settlement, when a dog comes their way, with a helicopter on his tail. 5. A NPC is asking the PC's to bring him under escort through a dangerous woods. 6. The uncle of one of the PC's has found some clues, that the zombies were made by a secret lab. Can the PC's protect him from agents of the lab???. 7. Priest Jason Wellington is trying to convert the zombies. Now the PC's must find him, and to convince him to stop, and that he must return to his family. 8. A filmcrew is following the PC's, wanting to make a movie about them, but one of the filmcrew is a agent. |
| #4octavian_5Feb 21, 2008 18:53:15 | One I used once: The PCs are passing by, when they notice a group of zombies reaching for an infant in a tree, the now-deceased parent having pushed them up there. So, the PCs have a choice: let an innocent infant die, or save it, and deal with being it's surrogate parents. "I can save the kid! I can kill the zeds! I can changed dirty diapers!" |
| #5kitsuneyashaFeb 21, 2008 22:33:05 | Them waiting the kzombies out or running doesn't matter for my idea. The military comes, on a mission to kill zombies..Sometimes its hard to tell zombies from bloody survivors though. This couldbe further added with the military using snipers (who can't hear "STOP! WE'RE NOT ZOMBIES!" from their distance) |
| #6agyFeb 21, 2008 23:00:21 | Hay I fleshed out the school bus idea a bit but couldn't find anywear to attach a .pdf file here so its hosted at rapid share http://rapidshare.com/files/93864326/Zombie_school_bus.pdf.html please let me know what you think and if you can think of anything i could ad |
| #7eadFeb 22, 2008 5:34:15 | I like it. I have also some questions, and comments about it: 1. The Bus driver was turned, you mean turned into a zombie???. 2. The shadow boxes, and the map are missing. 3. What are the stats, and hitpoints of the children???. Some flavor to the encounter: 1. One of the children has diabetes, and must be found soon. 2. Some of the smallest children are traumatized, through the attack, so they must be calmed down.(Perhaps Temporary Insanity.) |
| #8eadMar 07, 2008 12:27:15 | How far are you now with the Encounter table???. Do you need some help with something???. (I know that this is double posting, but I really need to know this.) |
| #9crwydrynyMar 08, 2008 8:08:46 | I'm currently working on a "zombie war" campaign based on the books "zombie survival guide" and "world war Z" by max brooks. basically it starts of several months after a zombie apocolypse (I was thinking of going from the start but there wasn't much to keep people intrested) basically two groups of survivours in two countries are in contact via an internet link (which the goverments have ordered to keep running as long as possible) basically the PCs are in one of the groups and they have to stand guard duty (sniping stray zombies) and make food runs to a local town for food and suplies (they are holed up in a building outside of town, a fortified farm, a factory ect.) and they are lucky to have only a few zombies to worry about. after a while they one of the teams searching the ruins comes back with zombies on their tail. after a nice long battle they find they've practically cleared the area (a nice long chain swarm drawing in all local Zs) they they go on to searching the ruins for remaining Zs then the internet/TV/comunications all go down along with power and other amenities (unless they had the forsight to store water and build generators) the next phase involves the PCs trying to either (1) contact the milatary (which may or may not be friendly) or (2) try to get to the other group of survivors (stealing a boat or plane depending on location) from there you can take it in all directions. "last man on earth" (lmoe/robinson cruisos) basically people who think they're the last people alive setting traps in the ruins and trying to stay alive while hoping for rescue, or just totally cracked and will kill everything on sight even fellow humans in order to protect their own supplies. ferral humans, children orphaned by the zombie outbreak who have reverted to a wild state inorder to survive in the woods or ruins (think an extream version of newt from aliens). then you have people who are so traumitised by the events they begin acting like zombies (this can be fun as a PC bitten by one of these guys begins thinking "OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO DIE) and may result in another player putting a bullet in his head (if they didn't think to check the dead body and realise that he was still alive when they shot him) then there's always the rebels, people who have decided that they are the ruler of the local area and anyman who wishes to think otherwise will end up dead (think mad max, or water world style outlaws) then there's the option of being part of the millatary, maybe part of one big failed battle against the zombie hord, having to deal with demorilized NPCs taking part in sweep and clear missions or long term sniper ops to wipe out as many Zs as they can. the possibilities are endless. I seggest anyone planning a "zombie apocolypse" style campaign read the sombie survival guide and WWZ |
| #10agyMar 10, 2008 15:50:57 | Hi sorry about the delay, but thought i should probable try out d20 modern before writing to much more. Good news is we had our first game last weekend and was a smash, wich is pritty good seeing as most of the players havn't given up on ad&d yet and where a bit sceptical. But the game ran till 3am and only had to stop as ran out of adventure. So now i now a bit more ill get on to the encounter list. I ran with one of Azisien's adventure ideas's posted in the zombie thread, and used the living dead as my zombies, the living dead didn't work out that well as we just went thrugh to many PC's, so i had to take off the infectious bite. So would just like to say thanks to Azisien and Sepsis for there idea's |
| #11crwydrynyMar 11, 2008 8:10:19 | I ran with one of Azisien's adventure ideas's posted in the zombie thread, and used the living dead as my zombies, the living dead didn't work out that well as we just went thrugh to many PC's, so i had to take off the infectious bite. just a thought you could even out the odds against the zombie infection by making the zombies slower (after all they'll slowly rot and limbs could fall off or muscles could decompose) and making them having to score a grapple before they can bite or maybe making the zombie hordes smaller, or just giving wider ranges of tactics (sniping, vechical combat, defencive emplacements) and give PCs a chance to escape before the zombie hordes get too over whelming, making it more of a thinking game rather than a burte force action packed 1980s swarzneger style movie so the PCs are only in danger if they make some major idiotic blunder (i.e. stand and fight against 10,000 zombies, walk into a building before observing it from the outside, going into an area without backup) |
| #12goricexiiMar 13, 2008 13:45:38 | I have a few more ideas: 1. Have the zombies have some indication of their former life--meter maid, bartender, cook, janitor, bus driver, business executive--etc. Occasionally have zombie groups like the band in "Land of the Dead" 2. Indicate wounds that caused death--a missing arm, torn open throat, gut hanging open. Now and then have scavengers following them. 3. Smell--do the zombies increasingly rot? If so they should start by smelling bad and then reeking. It should linger in clothing, be difficult to forget. 4. Zombies behind the wall. A thin lower-income apartment might have thin walls, zombies trying to get out from behind a wall made up of mostly plaster and slates of wood. |
| #13eadMar 16, 2008 8:04:45 | 3. Smell--do the zombies increasingly rot? If so they should start by smelling bad and then reeking. It should linger in clothing, be difficult to forget. You can then use this: Stench: Any creature within 10 feet must succeed on a Fortitude Save (DC 15) or become nauseated for as it remains in the affected area and for 1d4 rounds afterward. |
