There's some variety, to be sure, but there are some strong underlying connections to all of them, no matter who or what is writing them. Same for elves, dwarves, orcs, and a variety of other fantasy staples. But gnomes? Not so. Here, they are weird little fat men on your lawn. Over there, they are squat engineers with a taste for the bizarre magi-mechanical. Back there, we have actual mole people. Over this way, they are descended from kobolds. To your left, fey creatures, cousin to the elf. To your right, earth creatures, cousin to the dwarf. No one can agree what the hell a gnome IS.

Then all his stinking divine friends chastised him but did nothing to fix the fact. At least Dragons and their creator God Io have some sense of decency.

I however have no problems with typical Gnomes, in fact I find them amusing. I absolutely adore Chaos Gnomes(did you know some of them set their hair on fire then freeze it, intentionally no less).
