Jul 28, 2011 13:19:41 His character in itself is a reference to the Monkey King from the story Journey to the West. He is also a bit of a reference to the character Kikuchiyo from 7 Samurai.

There is also some hinting that he could instead actually be a demon from the flash backs on the woman, but thats more speculation.

That would probably be Tokugawa Yoshinobu and the setting would be the Boshin War. But I think the movie is set earlier.

Dont make much sense to me either, but it works.

Aug 04, 2011 9:36:38 Shiningwolf I assumed he was a spiritual creature. First his crazy skill with weapons and then his reappearance at the end of the movie. My friend who saw the film thought he might be a ghost. Much like you, I too noticed the Mifune character from Seven Samurai.
