Sep 21, 2010 14:13:46 Sry, im a complete newb to the D&D forums and i may be posting this question in the wrong place. Even if you dont want to answer the question but are able to direct me into the correct forum, i would be totally grateful. After reading the players handbook i couldn't find the specific answer to the following question. (myabe i overlooked some parts)

Question:
How many bonus spells does a sorcerer with 18 Charisma get at level 3? What would be the total of spells that character could cast in each level? This is in 3.5e

A 3rd level sorcerer with an 18 charisma gets one bonus 1st level spell.

At 3rd level a sorcerer has 5 base 1st level spells per day.

That's six total 1st level spells and six 0th level spells.

But to answer your question.
Bonus spells are dependant on your relevant ability score and what level of spells you can cast.
An 18 Cha grants a sorcerer one bonus spell of 1st-, 2nd-, 3rd-, and 4th-level.
Since a 3rd-level sorcerer can only cast 1st- and 2nd-level spells, he'll only have access to the 1st-level bonus spell for now.
Basically, he can't cast spells of any level with a -- instead of a number. Notice that the bard, paladin, and ranger actually have zeroes on their Spells per Day lists--that's so that they can use their bonus spells of thost levels, if they get any, even though they don't have any base spells.

So, a 3rd-level Sorcerer with an 18 Charisma has a total of six cantrips and six 1st-level spells per day.
At 4th-level he'll have six cantrips, seven 1st-level spells, and four 2nd-level spells per day, counting his bonus spells.
