Who cares?!
I am so sick of 3.0, 3.x, 4e, Pathfinder, 5e...
I am sick of hearing all the Avengers, whiners, apologists, and nerds complain, rant, whine, and moan over a GAME!
I don't even play D&D anymore, ANY EDITION! Do you know why? BECAUSE THEY ALL SUCK! AND ALL THE RABBLE THAT GOES ALONG WITH IT TURNED ME OFF!
Grow up!
Get a life!
Get over it!

SHEESH!!

How many times do I have to answer this question?
It really isn't hard for a reasonable, intelligent person to figure out.

I'll give you a few more hours to think about it...

Also, nowhere in the Terms of Service does it state that I have to play, or even like, D&D of any edition.

Why does it bother you so much that I don't like or play D&D?

Curiosity?
Yeah, I can see that. I/ we simply aren't interested in RPG's anymore. Simply "grew" outta them and got burned out on them I suppose... they just aren't "fun" anymore really...

And we play a lot of board games now as well. Mostly war games... Memoir '44 is a current favorite of ours.

Naah, I wouldn't say I "grew out" of RPGs; I haven't played that many games really. I just have no one to play with and I have a hard time gathering people (those who actually are interested in D&D back out as soon as I mention it's 4e... and most of them base their judgments on hearsay).

A board game I can pack up and play between classes; it's mostly small things, like Angel of Death, a Dungeoneer expansion or a dice version of Catan (which sucks).

I've played every edition of D&D since Basic, and I'll probably play 5th when it comes out. Like I posted in one of the other threads, I'm not an edition snob - I'll play whatever's being played, and I've never really given enough of a about which rules system is being used to get at all bothered by it. I play D&D. Period. End sentence. Full stop.
If this entire site wasn't foaming at the mouth over the subject, I'd almost be laughing about all the idiots pissing themselves over which edition is best and how "their" game is getting/was slaughtered because X edition changed one freaking word in some obscure rule or took a different approach to the game. As it is, in order to not get perma-banned I'm actively restraining myself from indulging my strong urge to take an obscene amount of pleasure in poking the idiots on all sides of the issue with a stick for no other reason than my own perverse amusement and the inherent entertainment value of watching their heads explode.
At the moment, though, I can barely even be bothered to roll my eyes at the whole thing - and hell, this being an internet forum rolling my eyes is just a matter of typing four characters, lol...

I'm a little curious about 5e, but I haven't been excited about ANY edition since the big 3e/4e edition war started. Not because of the game, but because of the community itself. Too many people started showing the worst of their natures over... A game? I mean, I've played a several RPGs over the years, but D&D was always my gaming rock. I'd always come back to it, it was my foundation. Watching the community go straight to hell was painful. And the blatant disrespect and inconsideration I got from people that I used to have respect for because I advocated calmness and dared to suggest that the fighting should stop? Yeah, that was the last straw. I've barely touched the D&D section of the boards in 2 or 3 years (but you'll still find me haunting the MtG section).

Now I'll probably get the players handbook. I have them all from 3e up. Not sure if I'll play it. Will probably read the books some, fantasize about making a game breaking character and then put the books away.

I enjoyed 3.x, tough I've seen it's flaws. I really liked 4e for it's different approach, tough still I accepted it's flaws (like slow combat or more restrictive classes). What I didn't like was when two years after publishing they started making 4e into a 4e/3.x hybrid and still wanted everything to work smoothly.

I personally hope 5e will be entirely different from what has been, but I'll probably won't be playing it. Those 4e books I have are only gathering dust; the tiles have never been used in a game. As I mentioned earlier, no one wants to play D&D here, and if they do, it's 3.x.

I don't really care.  I like 3.X.  I only played 4e once, but was willing to try more.  I just wish they'd decide what worlds were going to get support and what wasn't, and then keep it that way.  That's actually one of the biggest problems I had with 2e.  You had Greyhawk, FR, Krynn, Ravenloft, Dark Sun, Planescape, and Spelljammer (did I miss any?) and it was difficult to support all of them.

I've never heard of Birthright, so it obviously wasn't all that important.
Mystara I vaguely recall hearing passing mention of, and I always thought the OE was more of a "subset" of one of the other worlds.  I see that my point has been made, though.  There's too damn many of them.
In 5e, I'd really only like to see Eberron, FR, Krynn, Planescape, and Greyhawk (aka the "basic" world).  Ravenloft can get folded into something else (or even into the Plane of Shadow, so it's accessible from all the worlds, OE can become a subset of all of them, Dark Sun can just die already (never liked it!  ), Spelljammer can use them all...

Watch, 5e is going to almost nothing like 3e or 4e but 2 years down the line they'll make it into a 3e/4e hyrbrid. About a year later they'll announce that they are working on 6e.

Sing it, brother.

I've allowed myself to dust off the old guns and fire a few rounds for fun just once so far. The ORCs are so busy they're just deleting stuff and not even posting warnings to play nice, so it's easy to really blast those who deserve it.

The ORCs'll get a handle on it soon enough though.

As to the OP: yup, edition war stupidity is stupid. I'd rather hear more about the board games some of you play. Sounds a whole heck of a lot more interesting and fun.

As I said, I mostly play things I can comfortably carry around in a backpack (when I'm not hauling paints or other heavy stuff): Fantasy Flight's Death Angel (we've even managed to win once), a Dungeoneer supplement (two combined into one: Haunted Woods of Malthorin and Den of the Wererats; the Wererats are more interesting IMO) and The Settlers of Catan: Dice Game (hardly fun; zero interaction between players). We've also had an MtG phase and two of us have Pokemon decks. One of the guys is also keeping Warhammer: Invasion we bought as a group.
I also have a Polish game called Na Sygnale but we've yet to try it out. Maybe after this semester ends.

Invasion is designed to be one on one; Dungeoneer plays pretty well, but it's better with more players. Death Angel is a cooperative game and can be played even in solitude: any number of players less than 4 just means everyone controls more than one squad.

I care because I enjoy new, shiny things and theoretical discussion. The 4e build up was awesome for me, pouring over cell phone pics and crappy scans from DDX, helping other forumites assemble a "the rules as we know them" playtest version, so on and so forth. It was great.

So I look forward to the 5e buildup, too.

If this entire site wasn't foaming at the mouth over the subject, I'd almost be laughing about all the idiots pissing themselves over which edition is best and how "their" game is getting/was slaughtered because X edition changed one freaking word in some obscure rule or took a different approach to the game.

Dont forget Birthright, Mystara, and Oriental Adventures.  Laughing

I will check out 5e but more than likely I will stick with 3.x and Savage Worlds.

I like 3e. I like 4e. I hate both of them as well. I've only heard that 5e is being created and that's it. I hope it is like skyrim. (...)

Watch, 5e is going to almost nothing like 3e or 4e but 2 years down the line they'll make it into a 3e/4e hyrbrid. About a year later they'll announce that they are working on 6e.

As it is, in order to not get perma-banned I'm actively restraining myself from indulging my strong urge to take an obscene amount of pleasure in poking the idiots on all sides of the issue with a stick for no other reason than my own perverse amusement and the inherent entertainment value of watching their heads explode.

There are people I consider friends here TS; and even if you are not one of them, you and the Thread Reporter™  are not going to drive me out.

The name is always capitalized.

I'm pretty sure your average OTTer is far more tired of inter-forum strife than they are of D&D Game Edition strife. Can we at least go back to talking about the later please, as that's the subject of the thread?

EDIT: Frank's post (below) is "pointing" to a post by another user that has since been deleted. He's not pointing at this/my post.

ADH... are you at all interesterd in wargames?
There are a number of good ones with Poland as the subject.

Well, a part of history has rolled over these lands...

If you mean miniature wargames, right now I can't afford them time and financial-wise. Maybe next semsester, between working on my degree.

I care.  Sorta.  Just cuz maybe it'll be decent enough to get my group playin' again.  We quit on the 4e and haven't gotten around to goin' back to 3.5 or 2e or tryin' Pathfinder.  Me an' another guy signed up for the playtest thing so we'll see.  Meh.

And if ya'all think people are fightin' now, just wait 'til WotC gives us something to actually fight about.  Ya ain't seen nothin' yet, homies.  When it happens it'll be pretty epic.

Other than MtG, I've not played any of those games, but they sound fun.

Do any of the games you listed lend themselves particularly well to one on one play? That is, with just two players?

Invasion is designed to be one on one; Dungeoneer plays pretty well, but it's better with more players. Death Angel is a cooperative game and can be played even in solitude: any number of players less than 4 just means everyone controls more than one squad.

I mean be more friendly to people that are illiterate... I mean.. look at the pretty pictures!

You play games to enjoy playing games, regardless of system. Clearly, you're doing it wrong. Now, I want you to come back in here on fire with some hateful things to say about some edition you read on the internet was the sux0rz.
