| #1nitedaggerMay 22, 2009 15:50:15 | started with 2nd edition, tried 3rd when it came out but didnt like it(kept playing 2nd) so many things wrong about 4th edition that its just seems like they are trying to be an MMORPG. just wondering when everyone thinks 5th edition will come out, definately need to figure in how much time WotC needs for everyone to buy their 4th edition stuff. |
| #2koushiroMay 22, 2009 16:15:24 | I do see Dungeons and Dragons entering a 5th edition once it's owned by someone who isn't Hazbro or a subsidiary. Despite what a lot of people are saying, I don't think 4th edition is being as well received as they think it is. I'd personally like to see someone who has a lot of previous experience working with the game like Paizo get a hold of it, but I don't know if they're that big of a company to support it. The Pathfinder RPG version of the d20 system so far as we've been playing it for months now has been very solid and that's only the beta edition. If a 5th edition does come out I'd like to see it definitely return to it's roots a lot better aiming more towards Advanced Dungeons and Dragons First or Second edition. |
| #3Ragnar_LodbrokMay 22, 2009 17:23:40 | I'm afraid you've mistaken the OTT for 4E General. The only Edition War in the OTT is the PbP one. Keep your repetitive arguments out of here, we've heard em all before. You sound like squabbling alley cats. Now, try starting another one, and... *pulls out a broadsword and torch, and steps aside to reveal a pile of troll corpses* |
| #4oxybeMay 22, 2009 17:31:08 | 5th edition will picked up by Valve when the WotC building explodes from the vast amount of monies they made from 4th ed's sales. Valve will insidiously redistribute 5th ed as a tabletop version of Team Fortress 2 but with a fantasy twist Heavy = Barbarian Scout = Rogue Sniper = ranger Medic = Cleric Demoman = Wizard Spy = Bard Pyro = Warlock Soldier = Fighter Engineer = Artificier the game will come pre-packed with several battlemats and premade scenarios you can play in. additional scenarios can be downloaded via your Steam account ... in a more serious tone, i'm guessing 5th ed will come out in '16-'18 and will more then likely be different from the editions before it. i seriously doubt you'll see a renaissance of 1st or 2nd ed mechanics in a "modern" D&D unless a VERY large portion of the fanbase begins clamoring for it. |
| #5DralenanMay 22, 2009 17:34:47 | If my projections are right, you can expect 5e in maybe 5-6 years (when 4e materials stop selling as quality declines, in a matter of maybe 3 years), and will strongly resemble 4th edition, however taking into account some of the missing aspects of the game. It will enrage and upset many players, provoking an edition war. |
| #6EscherEnigmaMay 22, 2009 18:58:34 | Wait, how are we counting? I mean, there were several 'editions' of Basic D&D while the AD&D line kept going, and if you count 'revised' rules then really, we're closer to already being on D&D8 or 9 or something. Either way, it will come when it will come. Some will like it, some won't. And then a meteor will fall out of the sky and kill us all. Yay! |
| #7owls_and_more_owlsMay 22, 2009 19:36:32 | If 5th Edition could bridge the good parts of 3E and 4E, I would buy it in a heartbeat. |
| #8EscherEnigmaMay 22, 2009 19:39:14 | Nah, D&D 5th edition should be focused on the epic battle between prairie dogs and their natural predator, the rhinoceros. In space. |
| #9pigknightMay 22, 2009 19:40:19 | Escher, you're supposed to say it like this: In Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace! |
| #10Reg06May 22, 2009 19:45:52 | In 5th Edition, no one will be able to hear you scream. |
| #11owls_and_more_owlsMay 22, 2009 20:03:38 | In 5th Edition, no one will be able to hear you scream. :heehee |
| #12dirtyfrankMay 22, 2009 20:16:02 | Wait, how are we counting? D&D uses the Resident Evil method of naming editions. ;) |
| #13tiwaztyrsfistMay 22, 2009 22:10:33 | 5th edition will be fully based on backlash against the percieved "MMORPGification" of D&D. All rules changes will be made to counter this concept. First they will do away with "Levels" as this is far too MMO-like. Then they will remove "Classes", as these restrict your power options, and are ALSO MMO-like. Thirdly they will replace HP pools, which are MMO-like, with a system for marking wounds to specific parts of the body and applying penalties based off them. Also, due to backlash from the 'mini-centric boardgame feel' of 4th ed, 5th edition will be Mandatory LARP. The PHB will come packaged with sowing patterns for robes, and one quarter of the book will be dedicated to schematics for building weapons and armor out of insulation foam, PVC Pipe, and Duct Tape. And the sun will shine black in the pale green sky as the blue-purple grass grows ever taller, in the crazy fantasy land where any of this is possible. |
| #14Reg06May 22, 2009 22:12:38 | I heard 5th edition could drink a gallon of milk in 137 seconds. |
| #15dirtyfrankMay 22, 2009 22:14:44 | I call BS on it. |
| #16ciaranMay 23, 2009 0:23:16 | 5th edition will allow for BS, and cover it in the Game Master's Guide. (this book will be renamed because dungeons are so, you know...) |
| #17KillerGMMay 23, 2009 0:24:47 | The 5th edition PHB will come with a $20 bill inside. |
| #18EscherEnigmaMay 23, 2009 0:26:19 | The 5th Edition PHB will be beamed directly into your brain, for instant rules mastery of every player. This will make getting that $20 bill a little difficult. |
| #19dirtyfrankMay 23, 2009 0:26:35 | 5th edition will allow for BS, and cover it in the Game Master's Guide. Well I guess I could see 5th edition drinking a gallon of milk in less than 3 minutes if the GMG says so, though it still seems a bit far fetched. |
| #20Mad_JackMay 23, 2009 2:16:29 | In 5th Edition, no one will be able to hear you scream. Because there won't be any rules for it. Lacking a detailed chart of the range at which every possible sound can be heard under every possible condition, players will simply assume that hearing things just can't be done within the 5th Edition rules system. The language now known as Common will be reflavored as Charades, and the Bard class will be replaced with the Mime. |
| #21KillerGMMay 23, 2009 4:17:52 | The 5th Edition PHB will be beamed directly into your brain, for instant rules mastery of every player. This will make getting that $20 bill a little difficult. You will be able to call CS and they will send you a new $20 bill, along with reliable errata. ![]() |
| #22ForgemberMay 23, 2009 5:35:04 | Thinking 5th Edition will be the first version to go right to computer. Seeing that people love when they dramatically change things they will also change the name to WoD, World of Dragons. |
| #23admiral_lourveMay 23, 2009 7:37:02 | 5th edition will be made by the fans after DnD is put to rest. :P It will look something like this: Races of 5th edition revealed! The marvelous beholderborn (deep, undead tyrant, mother and spectator) The valiant aasimar! (blessed/cursed aasimar, jovial aasimar and just aasimar) The mysterious elf! (high elf, low elf, dark elf, bright elf, pseudo-elf, half-elf and elven bloodline powers to apply to any other race) The stout dwarf! (dwarf) The crazed goblins! (redcap, pucka, hobs, rat-folk, tengu and troll) The collosal Super Robos! (Ganmen and free-thinking mechas) The standard human! (savage and civilised {personal opinion required}) The feral person-animals (canine, feline, bovine, ursine, simian and rules for making any kind of person-animals) The over-powered munchkin! (mighty munchkin, arcane munchkin and mighty arcane munchkin) and last but not least, The Gelatinous Cube! |
| #24senorpenor42May 23, 2009 9:39:57 | started with 2nd edition, tried 3rd when it came out but didnt like it(kept playing 2nd) so many things wrong about 4th edition that its just seems like they are trying to be an MMORPG. just wondering when everyone thinks 5th edition will come out, definately need to figure in how much time WotC needs for everyone to buy their 4th edition stuff. 5th Edition = Dungeons and Dragons: World of Dragons (or something to that effect) Rated T PC Comes out December 2011 |
| #25NyronusMay 23, 2009 9:40:17 | Fifth edition will be the first role-playing game to ensure a happy ending to all its players. If you know what I mean... |
| #26senorpenor42May 23, 2009 9:41:13 | Thinking 5th Edition will be the first version to go right to computer. Seeing that people love when they dramatically change things they will also change the name to WoD, World of Dragons. Dude I did not see this, you took the idea right out of mine head |
| #27NyronusMay 23, 2009 9:45:02 | Dude I did not see this, you took the idea right out of mine head You know, when I first saw the "World of Dragons" comment, I though someone was being remarkably witty and comparing whining anti-4th people to the whiny elitists who play White Wolf. I then remembered where I was. (This was not an attack against anyone here who plays White Wolf. Lets just say I've had a lot of trouble with WW and their hardcore fanbase.) |
| #28cherubaddonMay 23, 2009 9:47:35 | Either way, it will come when it will come. Some will like it, some won't. And then a meteor will fall out of the sky and kill us all. Yay! It's that last part I'm really excited about. |
| #29EscherEnigmaMay 23, 2009 11:49:43 | You will be able to call CS and they will send you a new $20 bill, along with reliable errata. Also beamed directly into the head. This will eventually lead to a craze in which head hunters go after D&D players for all the $20 bills in their heads. D&D players will become an endangered species, and eventually become a protected class of creature. |
| #30dirtyfrankMay 23, 2009 14:29:30 | Also beamed directly into the head. This will eventually lead to a craze in which head hunters go after D&D players for all the $20 bills in their heads. Well if D&D players have all the lewtz for adventurers then it means that D&D players will become monsters which have their own lairs. |
| #31EscherEnigmaMay 23, 2009 14:31:48 | Well if D&D players have all the lewtz for adventurers then it means that D&D players will become monsters which have their own lairs. Which will become protected habitats. Woot! That means no rent! |
| #32jimprofitMay 23, 2009 14:42:18 | ![]() 5th Edition will comeout in about ten years. Not before eight years in people start whining on these very forums about it coming out, and how wotc is greedy and corrupt, and there's a whole lot of butthurt. And rather then just stick to their lie about there "being no 5th edition", they start banning people all scared they're going to leak some vital information like this is missles or something. Then after a bunchof drama and perma-bans. Fifth edition is released. People are so excited and anxious to see the changes they forget all about how wotc lied right to their face about there being no 5th edition and banned their friends. Then when the newness of it all settles down. People go back to complaining about game balance, alignment threads, no women gamers, and the once per day accusation of being a troll. Untill the next eight years when sixth edition comes out. I sometimes wonder what it was like before the internet. When TSR should've been called TL;DR because the AD&D manuals made no ****ing sense at all... And everybody thought you were a Collumbine shooter or Satan worshipper instead of just a fat, hairy, virgin... |
| #33baneofelvesMay 23, 2009 14:43:48 | I can easily see that happening. |
| #34CCSMay 23, 2009 15:17:12 | just wondering when everyone thinks 5th edition will come out, 5e? Around 2015. Give or take a year, and assuming there's no truth to the Myan/Aztec calander End-of-World-as-we-know-it myth. 4.5 (or whatever they effectively call it)? 2011/2012. Again, assuming no Myan iterference.... |
| #35Reg06May 23, 2009 16:29:09 | I heard the 5th edition Monster Manual would come packaged with a tribble. |
| #36DralenanMay 23, 2009 21:13:35 | I heard the Tribbles were buy one, get a thousand free. |
| #37oxybeMay 23, 2009 21:51:45 | the terrible thing about tribbles (sung to the tune of "Tigger's Song") the terrible thing about tribbles 'zat tribbles are terrible things they eat and eat and eat and eat they don't do much anything their maintenance is quite easy but it ain't fun fun fun fun fun the most terrible thing about tribbles iiiiiissssss... there's rarely only one, ohhhh... there's rarely only one! what? |
