When you wish to start a thread to discuss an article you read, please at the very least post what it is from the article you'd like to talk about.  Also a brief description of the piece would be appreciated.  When people see an interesting title and then discover there's simply an article there with nothing else, it makes them less inclined to participate.  And there's also the chance that they may be somewhere that prevents them from accessing the article.  So please give us something when you give us an article based thread.  Thanks!

Now there's no way to enforce this and there's no official rule about it and I'm not tellin' anyone how to post - this is just a suggestion I hope is helpful and possibly spawns more discussion.

I'd like to second Z_B... you get more interesting threads if you give a quick summary and your opinion of the article.

I should note that I need to work on this as well.  I often post a snarky link or an attempt at wit instead of anything useful.

Or...
You get reported and banned.

Either way, what Z_B and plu said...

And I, for one, like that!
A "snarky wit" describes you very well!

I think 'instead of anything useful' is more apt.

Maybe sticky this thread or something.

Anyway, I agree with ZB.

We'd have to drop something to sticky it and someone has requested that the cook book thread be stickied so we'd likely have to drop two things.  I say we just post in it.  A lot.

Which is a shame, really.  Cuz I wrote it to explain the culture here in the hope that people would read it, understand it and that we'd have less of the 'report everything I don't like regardless of the feelings of the community' stuff we've got goin' on.

Why not get rid of the "washing the tavern's tables" thread? It's locked. No one can post in it, and no one pays attention to it anyways.

It was also, if I remember, a pretty direct response to a couple explosions that spilt over from Astrid's, neh?

Who ever heard of a forum that only allows 3 stickies? Sounds silly to me.

It's a good guideline. I've seen forums where the first page of a category contained 15 mostly irrelevant stickies and then only the bottom 5 threads were active topcis.

It got even better when you jumped to the next page and those 15 stickies would actually load on every page on the forum so that you could only see 5 useful threads at the same time.

However came up with that was an idiot.

This indeed could be sitckied rather than my cookbook thread and this is what I was told by web back when i asked about getting the cookbook stickied

We can, but we shouldn't have too many stickies. Is there a thread we can unsticky in it's place?

Who ever heard of a mainstream company having such crappy forums in the first place? Really, I put nothing past WotC at this point. Collectable wooden dice are next...

Oh My God ZB I love you!!! +1

95% of the time I don't want to read any of these articles >.< and most of the time I don't!

And on the rare occasion I do I'm left wondering if the post was serious or if it's some kind of joke or satire or what. And to what point. It's like what are you trying to point out? Abc, xyz or qrs?

Now I just noticed that while I'm writing this I'm listening/watching a live stream of a starcraft tournement while also listening to morning radio talk show. multitasking ftw! now to figure out what's going on....

Oh, and on Topic: Yeah I agree with ZB. I cant count the number of times ive checked out a thread only to discover that its just a link, im not going to just click on some random link, not unless I know something of what to expect. Posting what the article shows, or what I want to talk about it can backfire though. If all you post is links, it is difficult to claim that what you are linking to is offensive. I posted several links to a researcher (that happens to be gay), who's research showed that all the recent media stories and claims that a homosexual orientation is correlated with a 3x increase in attempted suicide was bad science. The thread stayed up for several hours, until I posted some of the results of one of the studies that showed a homosexual orientation is correlated with a 2x-5x increase in sexual battery from a boyfriend/girlfriend (the thread was closed within minutes, and I was kicked for off-topic). So, apparently it is ok to say that conservative towns are mean to people, but correlating meanness with orientation is a no-no. Link with commentary, but do so at your own risk.

This thread was posted after several people mentioned that the stated cons of unspecific linking made them less inclined to engage in posting.  As threads aren't fun when nobody posts in them, I thought posting this would be a good thing (and a reminder to myself to be more specific when linking articles).  It's really more about starting a thread based on an article than linking to articles as part of a discussion.  But, as stated, there's no rule and there's no way to enforce it.  It's not a big deal, just something to keep in mind if you so choose.

A bit of both. It is annoying but it has also grown on me. This greek friend of mine likes to spam nyan cat to people and we'll spam him back. Or spam him with x-rated links like meat spin or others. ;) But anyways while at school it's mainly just nyan cat spammage. I think we all find it annoying but we also always listen to it. the cool jazz nyan was the newer nyan linkage we were doing to each other is all. I really don't care much for nyan cat. Now with that said I should show you guys this nyan cat game!!!

It's a Rick Roll with this linked instead.  I think it's about finished, though.  Finding that, by the way, was more difficult than it should have been.  I mean, the first one I tried had a friggin' ad before it started.  How the **** are you supposed to 'roll' somebody if there's a ****in' ad before the video?  I do not like this new internet we are having.

That guy is creepy!!!

I remember back when I was playing travian some guys were trying to start some kind of new roll called like an apache roll or something. Like you've been apache'd or something.

The song and the video is bad but it's not like that bad. Maybe if they editted the video of just the goofy lookin dude it would work. idk.
