#1 WizardsAndWarriors Aug 15, 2014 6:17:51	When I was 13 years old (32 years ago) and obsessed with Dungeons & Dragons, I was told by an adult who had a major influence in my life that "playing Dungeons & Dragons will get you no where in life."   I felt crushed by this sweeping statement.  This was a world built on imagination... requiring creative problem solving... teamwork... and so many other important lessons that I could not find in school.  D&D wasn't just a game for me.  It was a way to look at real life... as an adventure... with risk and reward... with a depth that necessitated me learning everything I could to better my odds of success.   I took my lessons from D&D and added in some academics which I thought could use a creative overhaul, hired a bunch of incredibly imaginative teachers, and made an educational summer camp inspired by my teen obsession.   Today, over 1000 kids and teens attend our camps and programs each year.  In the summer, we have 30 full time employees.  We have 2 locations and are due to open 2 more next summer.  Next year, our company starts the process to franchise.   Three decades after that adult's harsh judgment, I am happy to say that they were quite wrong.     Never let someone snuff your dream.  Your dream might hold the key to making other people's dreams come true.   Meghan Gardner Founder Wizards & Warriors Summer Camp Burlington & Reading, MA

#3 ForgottenSpecter Aug 26, 2014 1:39:15	Wasn't there a study recently (not fully sure) that said those who play D&D tend to be better in certain business situations? Also that it helps people become more social or something.

#6 Cyber-Dave Oct 09, 2014 17:27:44	I can honestly say that D&D and TRPG's inspired me to become a grad student. In fact, I am writing my dissertation on the genre. So, yea... needless to say that adult had no idea what they are talking about. Nice story, by the way!
#7 neomahakala108 Oct 22, 2014 14:24:59	i am trying to turn D&D gaming into something beneficial (Buddhism & Art, with Community interactions).   perhaps will meditate (to gain focus) on spells (grammar, spelling etc...) in Real Life ;)
