| #1DralenanJun 02, 2009 19:05:08 | So while engaging in my common scavenging of thrift stores for unusual items (which once included a wealth of 2e books), I went browsing through the vinyl records...and I looked down, below the records, at children's books. And I noticed a variation of the original 2e logo...an Al-Qadim supplement was hidden among coloring books! So then, I picked up the book, and began to skim, considering what I could draw from it, or use in a modern campaign. I carried it around the store for awhile, then I read through it again, and it dawned on me...without any other Al-Qadim books, it was useless. There was really nothing in the book I could adapt (but there was a nice title/rank system discussed). So I was torn as to whether to part with the dollar for a book I would never use, or keep the money for something else. In the end, I put the book back, I will probably never run an Al-Qadim campaign, and it was only part of a boxed set, needing the other parts I would assume (I am not familiar with the setting, really). So despite crossing paths with this unusual find, I left mostly empty handed, but I was inspired to look up more information on Al-Qadim later on, and find out more about it...and who knows, maybe I will eventually find the setting and join a group. But for now, the booklet has been released to fate, to find another, more worthy owner... In other news, a family member who knows little about D&D just complimented my 2e Monstrous compendium... |
