Greyhawk, Dark and Nasty

Thoughts on a Darker Game
Should Greyhawk shift toward a darker more adult game?

YES!! YES!!! YES!! (well maybe not that dark, but it's certainly better than a cartoony world. Eh, it not that bad. It is just a game after all)

Are you sure this is PG-13? Because that is, IIRC, how Wizards like their boards.

Well, I know I'd never play in a game like that. To much like Martin for my tastes.
Plus, yeah, this seems a bit much for these boards, dude.

Perhaps not entirely PG-13, but still it is devoid of certain things that would make it unacceptable even to me.

The point is though: Is there a future for a Darker, Nastier (that the difference between Evil and Good) Greyhawk? Will Wizards consider the darker game for its M15+ Market without going over into R18+ ?

...meh, why not?

(wasn't this on the Mature Boards months ago?)

Sorry. The example given was crossing the PG-13 line. Some of the themes and subject matter being discussed are very sensitive and could cause some people to feel uncomfortable. While discussing the possibility of a darker game style is, of course, acceptable, specific examples of graphic sex or violence are not allowed on this message board.

Now that I think about it... Isn't this thread off-topic here in the off-topic tavern since it would be on-topic on one of the on-topic forums?

Is there a thread where such issues may be handled, within limits of course?

1) agreed. But hasn't greyhawk always been that way? At least, that's how I was always exposed to Greyhawk. the dark, gritty world where all the wierd *bleep* happens.

2) No.

It was useful at times, but "mature" is not the word I would use to characterize some of the posters there.

What porn? That was newspaper headings turned into a short story set in greyhawk. Porn would have required I go into certain details that I am loath to even discuss because of my strong stance on Ethics.

It wasnt PG 13 because it was Mature 15+ (trust me it was no where near R Adult Only) The Point is that Greyhawk can be made into a darker setting for an older market rather than backsliding to encourage kiddies into playing it by keeping it a pg 13. Frankly D&D by its simple fact that it encourages Mercenary thinking and corpserobbing slaughter is Mature Rated and should not be encouraged for children anyway. A mature story environment that is equal to the themes of the D&D game is better than selling the D&D equivelent of cigarettes to children.

1. I agree to some extent, but I think it should be more background than rules. The former of which is much more important to me anyway and trying to add rules for mature stuff just ends up daft.

2. I would miss it if it had lived up to its name.

I couldn't read it so I don't know what it had in it.

Hey, that's the old fogy anti-videogame/funtime thinking. With your thinking handing a kid a copy of Zelda is like handing them a gun.
