| #1graffitizooOct 27, 2009 12:18:44 | I keep getting sick, and I'm tired of it. OH GOD MAKE ME FEEL BETTER PLEASE.
How do you deal with being sick? Drink tea? Take endless amounts of painkillers? I need some advice. =D |
| #2pbnOct 27, 2009 12:24:50 | proper nutrition and rest. Give your body what it needs, so that it may do what it needs to. |
| #3modern_iconoclastOct 27, 2009 12:25:35 | What sickness? Remember the endurance check at each daily rest. Good luck! |
| #4graffitizooOct 27, 2009 12:30:21 | I think I just have a common cold now, but my throat feels like it's been hacked up by razor blades. I('m pretty sure I) had Swine Flu last month, and feeling normal for even like, 2 months would be lovely. I was just wondering what other people do for things like colds and the flu to make them easier to deal with. |
| #5The_SilverswordOct 27, 2009 12:32:03 | I usually use whisky. Some good ole Jim Beam will have me feeling better in no time. |
| #6generalhenryOct 27, 2009 12:37:05 | The only folk remedy with proven merit is chicken soup. It's anti-inflammatory, like taking an aspirin. So yeah, no real tricks other than avoid germs, get plenty of fluids and rest, and if you don't feel good take an aspirin/ibuprofen/Acetaminophen. |
| #7generalhenryOct 27, 2009 12:41:36 | For the sore throat I like to drink warm grape fruit juice. Very spicy food also works. |
| #8graffitizooOct 27, 2009 12:44:40 | Those things both seem like very bad ideas. =/ |
| #9pbnOct 27, 2009 12:49:30 | To make the blades go down (temporarily) try some honey and lemon. Get a mug, put some honey in the bottom, then just enough lemon juice to "dissolve" the honey. A teaspoon or two should hold you over for an hour or so. |
| #10generalhenryOct 27, 2009 12:51:54 |
that's the idea.
the sore throat is caused by bacteria picking on you while your defenses are down. The acids and enzymes in warm grapefruit clear them out.
Same deal with the spicy food.
Though it's not much help if you simply don't like grapefruit or spicy food. Hot tea with honey (honey is antibacterial) can do the trick too. |
| #11ekioOct 27, 2009 12:52:34 | The tea seemed to helping last night. :\ Just keep doing that. And stop screaming at Mario Kart. |
| #12graffitizooOct 27, 2009 12:53:32 | I'll have to try that honey and lemon thing. I'm tired of feeling like I'm being decapitated from the inside out. |
| #13graffitizooOct 27, 2009 12:54:04 |
Shut up, you. =( |
| #14Johnathan_VagabondOct 27, 2009 12:55:57 | Generally when just generically sick, I double my water intake (which, honestly, is normally just shy of what it ought to be. 8 qts is it?) and drink my water warm (or hot if I can handle it). I pee a lot, but it also seems to help me recover quickly. |
| #15oxybeOct 27, 2009 13:27:55 | step 1 - chicken noodle soup. lots of it. step 2 - orange juice. lots of it. step 3 - sleep. lots of it. |
| #16a_x_wolfeOct 27, 2009 18:59:48 | I've found that popping Dayquil tablets like candy seems to be helping with not only whatever sickness I have, but also my period cramps, which are occuring together. Try that, and drink hot green tea with milk, honey, and tons of sugar. Let Phane give you her magical healing kisses, watch cute kitten videos online, read gay fanfiction, and you've got yourself a magic cure. |
| #17EscherEnigmaOct 27, 2009 19:17:29 | I suggest coconut rum. |
| #18pigknightOct 27, 2009 19:23:25 | Cast remove disease followed by remove poison and a cure lt. wounds for good measure. |
| #19generalhenryOct 27, 2009 19:32:29 |
faxed :3 |
| #20pigknightOct 27, 2009 19:40:10 | Oooooh. Escherrrrrrrrrr! He said gay in a mean way! |
| #21EscherEnigmaOct 27, 2009 19:44:57 |
And just what do you expect me to do about it? |
| #22a_x_wolfeOct 27, 2009 20:17:31 |
Hey, I didn't write that. >=( |
| #23generalhenryOct 27, 2009 20:42:18 |
I maek better
(oh and I wasn't trying to call kittens gay, I was simply saying instead of watching kittens and reading gay fan fiction you should combine the two. Yes I know I failed) |
| #24generalhenryOct 27, 2009 20:54:30 | www.buzzfeed.com/expresident/crow-adopts... see all we need to do is give it a gay fan fiction dub, about the crow/kitten love |
| #25generalhenryOct 27, 2009 21:17:59 | thekittenthewitchesandthebadwardrobe3667... I'm getting closer to finding some |
| #26generalhenryOct 27, 2009 21:25:08 | |
| #271_ton_ghostOct 28, 2009 14:09:16 | It would depend entirely on your cold/symptoms. But, for what I'm guessing: you're gonna' sleep at some point, which is when some of that corruption in your head/sore migrates into your chest to marinade and gum up the works. "Gurglies" = suck. You have to get on top of that right away, but when ppl feel like Hell, they just want to lounge about, too tired, too sore to bite the bullet and go the distance, so, recovery time is much longer then. This is why entire schools & offices get wiped out. If you get a fever early, roll w/ that. Body is trying to fry that crap in you. Knit hat on head, your favorite hoody, warm pants, socks, etc. (watch your temp [106 = brain dmg IIRC]). Let it build then "break". You'll be very tired, but you'll save yourself a lot of downtime later. Respiratory woes: tell someone to change the house/apartment air filter, purge the inside air of the residency but stay indoors (don't spread your sickness) baring a little time to get some sunshine (15 minutes @ least for vitamin 'D' & serotonin lvls). Tons of water. Can't stress that enough. Green tea, any high citrus juice, but absolutely no caffeine or alcohol (they're dieuretics [take water from you]). More water in you, the easier it is to get the crap out, namely coughing. Less water = drier cough, more painful, longer recovery. Sore throat is usually germs on lymph glands (swollen spots flanking esophagus). Fry it. Hot tea mostly, the hotter the better. Honey in lieu of sugar too, it's got an antibiotic in it, bla bla bla. And yes, spicy food is gospel. I swear by Indian (chicken vindaloo), anything w/ wasabi (best degongestant on the planet), chili, whatever you got. No junk food. Take as much vitamin 'C' as you have (water soluable, can't OD), 'D', and a multi if you have it. If you smoke, stop. It'll be easier anyway w/ the illness anyway. You'll never get a better chance. Every time I quit it was way the Hell easier w/ a chest cold. 1st drag of the day, you are sated, but it makes your avioli clamp down so coughing out the infected goop is like a tractor pull (more likely to burst capillaries, tear soft tissue). Hence "morning purge", even for non-smokers. Gross but effective; very hot shower (steam) & physical movement w/out dieuretics makes inner demons become, uh, outter ones. Breath from your diaphram in deep breaths then force a big cough, not little ones after morning exercises in the shower then, well, you get the picture. Sooner is better than later as you'll carry what you don't leave behind for the rest of the day and only prolong your cold. Brush your teeth frequently. It helps open your head/prevent sore throats. Get a massage, pull on your hair/stretch scalp & brush it too; as above w/ sinuses. There's these weird things called Neti-Pots; Chinese cure. Very cheap too. Think of a little tea pot filled w/ warm water and saline solution (pH) -> you "irrigate" your head, flush out the bad. It's weird, but instantaneous relief. Hastens recovery very quickly, but don't do it 1 hr before bed or less. Ly-Sol your cell, keyboard, remote controls, doorknobs, high-traffic areas. Friend got us sick w/ mixed die pools when gaming once. We took his, threw it in a ziplock bag, Ly-Sol'ed that, all better. Change bed linens & pillow cases especially. Wash your hands constantly and keep a plastic bag for your tissues and what not near your "territory" (a section of couch by the TV that is off limits to rest of household). Call your mom, beg for help, watch a lot of movies, and sleep as much as possible. |

Post Lolcats. |
| #29toastedamphibianOct 28, 2009 16:18:33 |
Sit, suffer, hide symptoms of illness (helps fend of predators). |
| #30graffitizooOct 29, 2009 12:16:12 | Thanks you guys. I took some of your advice, and I'm FINALLY starting to feel better. I handle being sick like a baby. =(
As far as gay kittens go, I'm ALL over that. Gay cats have rights too! |
| #31graffitizooOct 29, 2009 13:15:37 |
I wasn't kidding when I said I'm pathetic when I'm sick. |
| #32zombie_babiesOct 29, 2009 13:41:29 | Looks like you need a good hangover to forget your cold. Er something. |
| #33Cpt_MichaOct 29, 2009 13:54:05 | Vodka makes you feel better. |
| #34graffitizooOct 29, 2009 14:05:07 | Today is a day for Bailey's, I think. |
| #35zombie_babiesOct 29, 2009 14:11:20 |
So long as it's mixed with Jameson's and dropped into ****ss, I'm down. EDIT: Dirty stupid filter. G U I N N E S S |
| #36cherubaddonOct 29, 2009 14:17:24 | Is that like a curse or something? Why does it keep getting filtered? |
| #37The_SilverswordOct 29, 2009 14:35:19 |
It thinks youre trying to use derogatory slang for Italian Americans. You cant say Michael Moorcock either. go figure. Edit: hey it let me say Michael Moorcock! I was just talking about Moorcock in another thread and it slapped a censor down on me. Go figure. |
| #38zombie_babiesOct 29, 2009 14:39:27 | It's a really stupid oversight. Considering the 'offending' text isn't even the correct spelling of the slur, it's especially stupid. |
| #39WolfLordBranOct 29, 2009 14:55:33 |
If it makes you feel any better, you look better sick than I do at my best health. ![]() *tries hard to cheer you up* |
| #40death_isthe_beginingOct 29, 2009 15:04:30 |
Your pictures(I looked at the pics in your profile) all look better then I do, or so I've been told. You do not want to see me in the morning or when I'm sick, I look like some from one of Lovecraft's novel(an amalgam of something living on head and a fresh corpse). |
| #41zombie_babiesOct 29, 2009 15:06:23 | My pic says I'm super fuzzy and cute. And I know how to party - even with inferior beer. I may be small, but I know how to use tools. So I rock. And, for you'all's information, I was sick when my friend took that pic. |
| #42toastedamphibianOct 29, 2009 15:10:23 | My pic says that.... I like fire and frogs? |
| #43generalhenryOct 29, 2009 15:19:48 | My pic says I drink milk like a kitten Get used to it!
Oh and on topic, I have not been sleeping the last few days, tips? |
| #44toastedamphibianOct 29, 2009 15:22:14 | Have more sex. |
| #45zombie_babiesOct 29, 2009 15:24:03 |
And drink more booze. No sex? Well, handle it yourself. No booze? Hammer some NyQuil. That ****'s 50 proof. |
| #46graffitizooOct 29, 2009 15:26:47 |
I always have issues sleeping. My mom swears by Celestial's Sleepy Time tea. I can't drink it because I don't like the way Chamomile tastes. But hot apple cider, on the other hand... =D Sex would probably make you tired, sure. But it's even better for headaches. |
| #47toastedamphibianOct 29, 2009 16:02:04 | Oooh! You could go get the Flu or something. I heard somewhere recently that **** like that makes you sleepy. |
| #48EscherEnigmaOct 29, 2009 16:06:04 | I think my avatar says I plan to be part of the robot uprising. Oh, and for the poor sleeper? Do you exercise? If so, when? I've heard that doing a bit of light exercise right before bed can help. For myself I just go with the "sweaty headboard-biting sex" route of exercise, but to each their own. |
| #49zombie_babiesOct 29, 2009 16:06:45 | Or maybe get a tsetse fly and hope it is carrying the sleeping sickness bacteria or whatever and let it bite you someplace. Like a convenience store. |
| #50toastedamphibianOct 29, 2009 16:10:16 | No, I recomend you not bite tsetse flies before bed. Bad dreams. |
| #51voidrunnerOct 29, 2009 21:45:04 | menthol mint schnapps. it is hard to find but does work wonders. clears the sinus, soothes a sore throat and if you drink enough you pass out |
| #52cherubaddonOct 30, 2009 7:15:30 | Things that work for me: 1) Hot milk with honey. 2) Alcool (wine in great quantities works best, but liquor does the job, too) - I don't mean get drunk, just drink enough of it to be sleepy. 3) Darkwave (or other ambient music). 4) Reading something just between exciting and boring - romantic poems, say (as in Romanticism, not necessarily love poems) or Jane Austin, if you're into that (my sister is, and it works for her). 5) Playing video games until early in the morning works wonders for me - after all the excitement, edginess and ultimate satisfaction of finally conquering the world (and it being 5 a.m.), I sleep like a rock. 6) IMPORTANT: don't think about what happened during the day, and even less about what will happen the next. That's the only thing that can keep me up, and a lot of people I know as well - the moment you lie down, thing about something else. Your SO (assuming you didn't just break up), your D&D character, the last movie you saw - doesn't matter, just make sure the day is done, the next one hasn't begun, and you can't do anything about it anyhow, so nevermind. |
