How many people are excited to get into the end of Robert Jordan's epic saga.

Brandon Sanderson, has been slated to finish the series.

Book 12 has been broken into 3 volumes as the original contract of 200,000 words was way too small to give all the characters fair game - and sanderson is working 6 days a week trying to hopefully get his predicted 800,000 word mega book out as soon as possible (which is hopefully book one this year, book two next year, book three year after!)

Volume One, The Gathering Stores is due for release this November - 2009!

I'm excited - and I'm trying to finish at least half the series in a re-read before November.

I think it took me about the same. Rather longer, though, because my book sources are somewhat limited to what's in walking distance, and I hadn't noticed I could just hit Borders on the way home from school.

Good series, yeah, but when someone else takes over after the original guy dies, it's never the same. See Dune series, works by Christopher Tolkien, etc.

Well from what I understand it is already written and that new guy is only adding a few things. So he ain't writing a whole lot but it still might be enough to destroy the series. Well maybe not destroy. Probably more like wreck a possibly great ending.

I am so excited too!! BTW, if you haven't finished re-reading the books by the release date, go here (http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/) and you can get comprehensive, non-judgemental summaries and more .

I wasn't that stupid. :P

My friends kept trying to get me to read that monstrous series. They would also constantly gripe about how nothing would ever get resolved and how the guy woud describe the lead-up to a massive battle for like four chapters only to resolve it in two paragraphs. And I guess one of the last books was like 1k pages that described the events of one day. Oh! Then there was the book that brought you to the cusp of resolving several hooks but didn't, you know, actually resolve any. Thanks but no thanks. I'll keep my nose out of fantasy. ;)

Yeah, I didn't realize how long the series was when I started. My husband liked the first few books, so I picked them up. I lost patience with them halfway through the 2nd book. I could see where they (weren't) going.

I'm just glad my friends' "sell" was to inform me about all of the books' issues. ;) They did enjoy them, though. When they found out the lates book (at the time) was going to be a prequel, though, they got good and ******. :D And then bought the stupid thing anyway. Not my idea of pleasurable reading.

The series I find gets it's bloatedness from placing emphasis on a longer more realistic telling of a people moving towards a prophetic end-battle. I find Robert Jordan created a vast world filled with many different views and perspectives, and placing you in the seat of said views - creating a more real experience.

I found the series awe inspiring as I ventured through it the first time, and now venturing through it a second time find more treasure-like details that add a greater spice now I understand a fuller context of the series.

I can admit the latter of the series as in - books nine ten and eleven being a bit too drawn out and drab - but i find they were still enjoyable.

The series is a bit so-so. A few of the books are great reads where a few of the others can be a bit difficult to get through. I, not being the one to quit halfway through, had to finish up with every book in the series that's been published so far. I just want the series to end so that I can read the rest of it and be done with it.

You really don't have to read it if you find it so torturous as some would describe it. I understand the need to not leave things unfinished though.

Really? I think it took me only a month or two to get through the series.

I find sometimes I can zip through a book of fantasy epic weight - in a week, and other times it'll take a year.

I'd rather that Jordan's masterpiece is finished well, not quickly.

As much as I find it dangerous to be working on a piece of writing as hard as Sanderson is doing so - reading his blogs and his feelings towards the series and the project, his feelings towards treating every character their due amount of spotlight, I feel confident in Sanderson producing a very pleasing enjoyable end to an amazing series.

Some of the female characters, when away from Rand (is that they main guys name? I can't remember) or some other person they look up to, they become abject morons. They also become annoying as hell. What makes the books hard to read is when half of the book is about an annoying character or group of annoying character. Other than that, the books are good.

Interestingly though Sanderson in his blogs has revealed that Nynaeve is one of his favorite characters.

Apr 30, 2009 10:27:59 To fill in some info from the stuff above, the initial estimate was about 300K (apparently 200K is just standard contract language for something like this, most of the ones in the series thus far were 300-400K, with RJ thinking this one would be a fair amount longer). Can't really remember how much work had been left behind, I think maybe 100K or so in stuff that was either written, outlined, or at least roughed out to some extent. And while a new author is finishing it, the big thing to keep in mind is that RJ's wife Harriet was his editor long before they were married, and was initmately familiar with his plans before this--as were his two assistants, who handle a lot of things like continuity, characterization, etc. So while the main guy is changing, the key supporting cast is the same.

While this may be true, I'm currently reading the first book and I already see it coming.

May 01, 2009 11:12:26 During the first two books, I thought Nynaeve and Matt were going to end up together. One of my biggest complaints in the books I read, where how easily people just fell in love with each other. It just seemed too convenient, even if it was fate.

Really? I think it's obvious from the way she seems to be mad at Lan all the time that they (Lan and Nynaeve) are going to get together.

Lan shut her down, and I thought it was going to stay that way. Nynaeve and Matt seemed a lot closer in book 2, if I remember correctly.

Just because Lan shuts down Nynaeve, it doesn't mean that Nynaeve would stop having feelings for him. That is kind of commonsense right there.
