Apr 11, 2009 0:47:31 After watching the ninth episode, I have to tell everyone: if you like 'near-future' science fiction and mystery stuff, watch Dollhouse. If you have little patience, start with episode 6 and watch 1 through 5 at some point later on (of those first five, only Grey Hour is particularly good. There is some backstory you'd miss out on but nothing crucial). Six through nine have delivered in full, and the show needs support ... I'm fairly confident it has already been cancelled in all but name, but it might have a chance.

By the time you get to episode nine, if you don't think it's pretty sweet, you can go back to what you were doing and I won't bother you again.

Any other watchers want to geek out with me?

And yes, its an awesome show. Especially tonight's episode!

It's on Fox what did you expect? They like to show episodes out of order and then cancel great shows. I'll be happy if it makes it a whole season. Hell, Fringe is still on so I've got hope.

I love the show. From what I heard, we're going to see another of Whedon's actors come in to play Alpha. I don't want to give any spoilers so I won't tell who. I'm looking forward to it though. Joss owes him for what happened.

Apr 11, 2009 1:19:49 Oh, I've fully expected it to be cancelled since it came out. I think Joss does too, especially after they made him scrap the solid, engaging pilot and replace it with a quarter season of episodic stuff. With any luck it will resolve well, sort of first season buffy... ie. if it ended it'd be good, but if it keeps going it'll be good too.

Can't wait to see Alpha portrayed. I'll just leave it at that because I think knowing who he is is a big spoiler... I really wish I didn't know.

Apr 11, 2009 1:37:01 There are already dark rumors of both fringe and dollhouse getting the axe. One thing I like about Whedon, though, is his focus on making sure his creations get proper endings... cancelled or not.

I'm interested to know how much Joss actually writes because it doesn't feel like a Joss Whedon project. There are touches of him here and there, but it lacks his characteristic wit, and it is very Echo-centric (whereas his past 3 shows, while having a clear leader/main character, supported the entire cast very well).
Beyond that, I think it just isn't done. Every now and then I'll be really entertained, and impressed, but those flashes of how good the show could be are fairly rare.

I still have mixed feelings about it. It could be interesting, but the Dushku is so bad that I'll drop the series if her character does not die soon.

Apr 11, 2009 13:40:17 I find myself unable to care about a show whose main character literally has no personality. Let's just hope this "composite event" happens soon, and some consistency can start to emerge.

I find myself more intrigued by the doctor and the handler than anything that goes on in the dollhouse.

Apr 11, 2009 16:27:29 Well after taking a tour online to watch the show, I find it pretty lame. It just doesn't, whats the word, "click" for me. A few funnies here and there amid the droll but yah. Not much else. Decent show, though nothing I could truly sink my geekest in too.

Firefly was probably the best, but each started out similarly (as in, mediocre [in my opinion] yet compelling) and then becoming badass. The pilot of Dolhouse > Buffy, but nostalgia (and a full 7 seasons) lets most of us forget.

Even Dr. Horrible had a similar structure. If you can't stomach half of the first season, then Whedon is not for the typical attention span... which can frustrate me. My friends won't sit down and watch a show like Sopranos or the Wire, because it's "too slow."

I really don't think the new handler will stick. He looks like a minor actor.
