The pirate metal guys? Passable musicians, stupid band concept and bad lyrics.
The ones Thunder mentioned? Good stuff. Singer definitely has a good voice.

Eh, I dunno, its not too teribbly bad, might be something fun to listen to while gamin. I dont think theyre in danger of winning any Grammys or whatever.

And its nice to see that dude rockin out on the keyboard, the kind that you hold like a guitar, I havent seen those since like the 80s! What do they call those things again?

The more I hear from these guys, the more I'm convinced that speed metal isn't the right genre for pirate music... Maybe some other kind of metal, but not this.

Folkmetal or punk. Flogging Molly for example does pirate music (along with other stuff) that sounds really good. Tracks like Seven Deadly Sins and Salty Dog are really nice pirate tunes.

Yeah, I don't like Flogging Molly either.  I wouldn't, though, even consider them on the same level as Alestorm.  Though I'm not really a fan, I can still see the appeal and even recognize that they're not remotely terrible - they're just not for me.  Alestorm, otoh, has got to be the worst band I've ever heard.  It hurts.  And all of this Pandora pain cuz I happened to add an awesome band - Korpiklaani - that happens to play folk metal.  I usually skip Alestorm (and pretty much every other folk metal band it tries to play for me) but had run out of songs I was allowed to skip cuz it was a bad Pandora day.  But yeah, I thumbs down these tools every time a song of theirs pops up.  Cuz they suck.

They may be bad, but they're entertaining, at least.  They're like the Chris Rock movie Head of State.  It's horrible, but it doesn't make me feel like I wasted 2 hours of my life watching it.  Unlike XXX: State of the Union

I dunno.  I mean, I have this reaction to their 'music'.  Like, insta-rage and some physical discomfort.  So, to me, they're bad.  Like, really bad.  And not entertaining in the least.  Like, I'm all like 'what the **** kinda stupid idea for a band is this?' and like 'if you're gonna do something like this, why not try to be good at, you know, music?'.  Yeah, I can't stand 'em.

I dunno. I was kinda getting in to it. Until he opened his mouth.
They need to just gag the lead singer and do instrumentals.

I'm afraid I can't even get that deep into them.  While the singer is a major issue, I don't even like the music.  It just doesn't make sense.  I mean, they should at least be fun, ya know?  Like, pirate metal is a silly concept so it shoud be funny at least.  But they suck so hard they ruin even the novelty of it.  I'm not against novelty acts at all, either.  I can still listen to GWAR and ICP on occasion, ya know?  But these guys?  They can't even get quirky right.

Now, now, fellow Prophet, let's not get into generalisations . I definitely agree about Alestorm but don't knock iPirate themed metal until you've heard some Running Wild ( I suugest Under Jolly Roger, Riding the Storm, Conquistadores, Treasure Island  and the Ballad of William Kidd)

Ok, ok.  I will refrain from commenting on the genre as a whole until I hear more of it ... which will probably never, ever happen - at least not on purpose.
