Seriously though, there's a few issues here. Someone obviously made up a religion specifically to get around that law. In all fairness though, that law is absolutely retarded. What's the point of going to a bar if you can't even get a stiff drink? I don't know if he has a lot of grounds for his complaint, though. One, I haven't heard anything from this "religion" that requires their "religious rites" to be undertaken at a bar. Go home and drink. It's cheaper anyway and then you don't have to worry about a DD. Two, it's not a statewide ban, just within the limits of that particular city. It's still stupid, but so are quite a few laws and this one at least is easily circumvented.
As for what makes us proud? The fact that asshats like this have every right to be asshats without the government cracking down on them for it. They may seem a bit odd, but as long as they're not hurting anyone, rock on. Try that **** in Iran or Syria and see how well it works out for you.

Without knowing the specifics of what you are refering to, I can only take guesses.
Gun deaths don't account for squat in the US (unless your counting homicides). You might as well complain about that guy who left his pool unattended, and his kid drowned.
As for the sue happy nature of the US, I can't dispute you there (but, is it usually on constitutional grounds?). As for someone slapping your kid, I wouldn't sue, but I would make sure that I let them know personally how dangerous it is for them to continue that kind of behavoir.

That's the fault of the idiot gun-owner not the gun. I own several guns and guess where I keep them... in a gun safe (that helps prevent theft and accidents). No one will find a gun laying around my house, much less a loaded one.

IDK the circumstances of that one, and the site H_S linked to was so insane it probably bears no merit. Frivolous lawsuits (a problem faced by many organizations) has less to do with our constitution than it does with the need to reform aspects of our legal system (which, by its very nature, is a perpetual work in progress).

Blame was a bad choice of words on my part. However I stand by the position that the only stupidity present in that case (unless there is a factor I am unaware of that should have legally disqualified the idiot from being a gun owner) was on the part of the gun owner.

You would be surprised how easy it is to qualify for a concealed weapons permit in Florida. Last August I was a gun shop with a range. I asked one of the guys running the place what it took to get a concealed weapons permit (they had classes available there at the range). All you have to do is take a cklass and pay a fee. The class is supposed to provide training and test you to determine proficiency with a gun. The class only takes 2 hours. The first hour is spent going over law regarding gun ownership in Florida. hey tell you were and when you are allowed to carry your gun, and when and where you are not allowed to. After that you get to go out to the range to fire off some shots and show proficiency with a gun. This is where it gets scary. You only have to fire 5 shots at a paper target. The only reason this part takes an hour is that you have to wait for everyone in the class to fire their 5 shots.

CC permit holders are probably less dangerous to you than the population in general (total homicides in 2007 with guns 12,632. (bear in mind the CC permit holders is from May 07 to present).

Sorry, that was probably poor wording on my part. I was responding to the post about it being scary about how little training is required for a conceal carry permit in Florida. I was pointing out that if you think that's scary, there are states where you can conceal and/or open carry without any permit or training at all. I mention open not because it is more or less scary than concealed carry but because if you are concerned over lack of training, both have the same issues associated with them.
And just to clarify, I personally am all for both open and concealed carry.
