Even though I know the racists roots of depicting blackmen as apes or monkeys I remember Mad Magazine doing a cover with Bush as a chimp. At what point does making fun of a president cross into being racist?

This article is a poor example because the e-mail caters to birthers but I hope you all understand what I'm trying to say.

Yeah, I agree that e-mail probably was meant to be a racist jab. Like I said, the article is a poor example but I think if the same picture was doctored to show Bush's face instead of Obama's with the caption "Now you know why they didn't find WMD's" we would all think that was funny (maybe not all but at least some of us would).

I realize context is everything and the context this e-mail was sent in is pretty racism filled. (I can't say for certain that all birthers are racist but it is my personal belief that most are or at least a significant number of them are.)

It's funny when it's done by random people or the media. It's not funny when it's done by the people that are supposed to work with and support the president.

Kinda like the difference between sending an email making fun of a friend to all your friends, and sending an email around your office making fun of your boss.

The first can be amusing (depending on the joke) the second is most likely seen as "highly unprofessional" (depending on the office)

You could argue whether or not the email was sent out and intended to be racist, you could argue that there is a double standard when it comes to racism... but you cab't argue the stupidity and arrogance demonstrated by this woman. seriously, when your political party is already seen as racist by a large portion of people, especially your opponents, is it really wise to send out an email with a picture that can so easily be called racist? How stupid do you really have to be? She should be removed from her office for her shear stupidity.

And then to have the arrogance to not even admit that it was a mistake to send the pic (wheter racist or not) and call out the person who leaked it to the media. If the people in your own party and calling your picture racist, and they are denouncing you for doing it, is it really the smartest thing to be calling out people for your stupidity?

An Obama-chimp looking at congress and scraching his head wouldn't of been racist, for example. But that pic was. And Chimps shouldn't wear red.

For some reason reading your coment made me rrealize that the planet of the ape movies could be all about congress. I could imagine all the senators and representatives being apes jumping around and screaming. Yeah... that seems about right.

Actually no vote was held. Québec was conquered.

No.  Quebec was not conquered.  Quebec didn't even exist during the war.  After the war, France gave the rest of New France to the British via treaty papers, so not even all of Quebec was conquered.  Much of it was simply given away.  AFTER the war, a good portion of New France became Quebec and the rest became other provinces.

Thank you for remining me about my history. It is much simpler to to say Québec was conquered then to give an history lesson everytime I start whinning. I think people here are intelligent enough to understand... Maybe...

Simple, but completely innacurate.  And it has nothing to do with intelligence.  Many people aren't well versed in history, so your "simpler" explanation decieves them.

Yep. Territory ceded after a war? Conquered, in common parlance. If you're giving an academic history lecture, sure. Conquered might be the wrong term. But this is not an academic lecture or paper, but is a common conversation for which the word conquered fits what happened.

Surrender has advantages. Now 400 years later, we are still here demanding our freedom, instead of rebelling and being exterminated.

Still there saying much and accomplishing little.  I guess it's not a very French thing to believe that ol' adage 'I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees.'  Either that or you're not really a subjugated people.

Come to think of it, when the French were conquered in WWII, many did decide they'd rather die on their feet if it meant freedom for their countyrmen.  The resistance was a pretty big deal.  Guess that part of Frenchness stayed distinctly French.

We shall see how you guys do when Arabed and Chinese and Mexicans run your country.

You mean today?  We're ok.

Funnily enough, an old movie took a look at this.  Red Dawn.  Classic stuff.  I guess they're remaking it, too.  'Course this time they've been, I guess, 'asked' not to use the Chinese as an enemy in it.  Tee hee.

Since the Quiet Revolution, the situation has been reversed as Quebec has become one of the places in the world with the lowest birth rates

No no no. They say our women are like one of the 8 wonders of the world and Québec women are easy and sluts! It makes me proud that we do not judge our women for liking and engaging in sex, like normal individuals do.

I don't have a problem with women (actually, screw women. This applies for everyone) being experienced. I have a problem with people being sluts. There's a difference.

Experienced people have had a lot of sex. They may have even been sluts in the past.

Sluts are people who, according to my definition, sleep with many guys/girls without a goal of having a meaningful relationship with that person, whether its just friends with benefits or something more towards romance.
