I wonder what will it be like. Almost nothing like F3 and New Vegas for sure.

Interesting... something I might keep an eye on. I've never played Fallout, though :P

I'm not into MMOs myself, but I like Fallout's 'verse. That distinctive browness and black humour.

Maybe you should play some Fallout first, then come back to the thread.
Start with the original, you can skip Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel (especially this one).

You should start with this one store.steampowered.com/app/38400/
Try to get past archaic look and interface, as this is a true masterpiece.

Just go get Fallout 3, then thank me in a hundred hours or so when you finally tear yourself away from it.

Eh, I thought Fallout: Tactics was alright (what I played of it). And you should definately play Fallout 1 and 2; they're great games. Fallout 2 is one of my favorite games of all time.

Well, Tactics had nice graphics and I liked the Humvee, but it's still more of a spin-off than a part of the series and I think the creators of F3 disregarded it.

While waiting years for Fallout 3, Tactics felt like a nice sneak peak of what Fallout 3 could have been.

And honestly, I'm not a fan of Bethesda. I was pretty disappointed when I heard they got the rights to Fallout, but I eventually let the hype and reviews of Fallout 3 to get to me. I played about 5 hours or so, but it honestly fells more like Morrowind (Elder Scrolls) in the Fallout world than a Fallout game. While people loved the Elder Scrolls series, I really wasn't a huge fan, especially in comparision to the Fallout series. But maybe I'll give it another try someday.

I made the misatke of playing Oblivion after having played Fallout 3. It was a very bad idea.

I luckily never made those mistakes; my mistake was Morrowind. (But in my defence, Bethesda was pretty unknown at that time.)

Morrowind never did it for me. I played it a bit but it never grabbed me. I found an effective infinite cash quirk early on which removed gold as a drive for questing, and at one point I couldn't find a location where I was supposed to pick up the next part of the quest line so I basically said "sod it" and never bothered playing again.

My main issue with Oblivion, aside from scaling enemy difficulty (a pet peeve of mine) is that there are so many ways in which they tweaked and improved the gameplay for Fallout 3 that Oblivion felt like a big step backwards, almost like a beta-version. I'm sure I might go back to it someday, but with so many other games still to play I don't feel a driving need to do so.

One of my college roomates took great delight in "breaking" Morrowind because he realized how unbalanced alchemy was and basically had infinite stats. Alchemy was based on Int, which you could increase with alchemy, so after having thousands in his Int, he made potions for all his other stats (except speed, which he realized was bad) and raped the game. I remember he killed enemies which you weren't supposed to kill (like the end boss).

But that was not my problem with the game. I thought the game basically played like an empty MMORPG. The world felt so large, but totally empty. The quests felts completely unrewarding. It just had a feel of worthlessness after playing for hours. After playing for hours, I don't actually feel like I accomplish anything or got better.

Additionally, I HATED the fact that you could "kill anyone", but it was worthless. I remember, I used to compare it to Fallout back then. In Fallout, if you killed someone with good stuff, you got the good stuff. If you killed a shop owner, you could loot his store. But in Morrowind, if you killed people, you could get some of their crappier stuff. You could still see their stuff, but you couldn't actually take it. That's really just a pet peeve, but I remember I used to use it as the example of why Morrowind was bad and something like Fallout was great. Fallout really let you do whatever you wanted and kept the game going.

And I think many of my disappointments with Morrowind translated to Fallout 3. To me, it felt more like an Elder Scrolls game (obviously had refinements) than a Fallout game. The same big empty world, the same pointlessly wandering around, the same unrewarding "freedom". Oh, and I also think I (at least) felt less awesome in Fallout 3 than I did in previous ones.

There were definately some good things about it and I could see how people like it (I actually suggested it to my wife since she's a big fan of exploring and wandering), but I just didn't like it. I'll probably try it again someday, but I was pretty disappointed since I was a huge Fallout fan.

I found that updating to improved character models via various plug ins... improved the graphical and performance on my hardware for both Morrowind and Oblivion.

I thought in Oblivion I actually wanted to do the main quest.. .not at all with Morrowind I had that "why" would I do that feeling? Obvlion I felt more like the hero saving the world with sense of urgency or my son playing the assassin working his way up through the guild.
