This is a curiosity question for those of you who are 50 years old or older.  How many of you still watch anime or read manga and what's your favorites?

My top favorite anime right now is pokemon.  Yu-gi-oh was one of the top 5 until the latest season.  Others in the top 5 include Bleach & Naruto.

As far as manga is concerned, I guess I really don't have an absolute favorite, but here's some of the ones I'm reading right now:  Chii's Sweet Home, Medaka Box, Enigma, Eden no Ori, Beelzebub, Fairy Tail, etc.

What about 50 years old reading comics made for 20+?  'cause not all manga (or American comics, for that matter) are made for kids.

That's for sure.  Take a look at Gantz or Deadman Wonderland.  They can get pretty gory.

I consider Gantz an "R-rated" manga.  There's just too much violence and gore to rate it anything less.

Deadman Wonderland seems a bit soft as far as gore and such goes. But I will agree though there are tons of manga and anime that are not for kids. Probably just as many adult oriented ones as there are ones targeted towards kids.

I am not familiar with Deadman Wonderland, but I am with Gantz. Althought interesting, Gantz is more for teens then young adults. It is basically a big video game where you kill aliens.

Err, wrong. It comes off like that first few volumes but then the truth comes out a bit later into the series. It's far from a video game where you kill aliens.

My parents enjoy watching naruto and used to watch bleach. They've watched stuff like trigun, full metal alchemist, inuyasha and some of the other stuff shown on cartoon network. partly because I always watched it and so they sort of ended up watching it too since the only thing they can ever think of doing is watching TV. I'd have to say they enjoy naruto the most. The other day I showed The Sacred Blacksmith to my mom and she said she liked it. They aren't big anime fans and neither reads manga. They also don't go out of their way to try and find new anime. So even though they enjoy some they mainly only watch it because I had been watching it in the front room a lot a few years back.

GANTZ STILL FEELS PRETTY IMMATURE BEYOND THE FIRST FEW VOLUMES, BUT I HAVE PRETTY UNREASONABLY HIGH STANDARDS.

I LIKE IKIGAMI AND MUSIC OF MARIE FOR MANGA BUT I AM NOT FIFTY YEARS OF AGE OR GREATER

I LIKE KINO NO TABI AND HAIBANE RENMEI FOR ANIME BUT I AM NOT FIFTY YEARS OF AGE OR GREATER

All ratings are ok for teens.  NC17 means 17 and above.  R is under 17 requires an adult.  17, 18 and 19 are 'teen' ages.

OK, now I understand those ratings. It was always weird to me that they use some kind of code instead of just numbers, like PEGI does.

Even though 17, 18 and 19 is still technically teen it is also when kids have now become adults meaning that things with those ratings are rated for adults and not kids. They might be made for young adults but adults none the less. Kindo important since teen starts at around 11-13 so saying they're a teen form of media can be a bit missleading since they're not meant for (kid) teens but rather (adult) teens.

It's not my problem that people don't understand the word 'teen'.    And seriously, how many 17, 18 and 19 year olds do you know that qualify as adults anyway?
