Please note: This is a lighthearted post and in no way, shape, or form is meant to bash 4e.

Seen that. Didn't think it merited a notice here, though...

He does state quite clearly:

This is not a condemnation of the new rules by me. I have not read them yet, having failed to get my hands on an advance copy some time ago.

It makes sense for OOTS.

There are so many things that wouldn't make sense under the 4E rules, since they were written specifically to lampoon the absurdities found in the rules from 3E. Plus, Elan couldn't exist yet in his current form.

I'd expect him to slowly transition from 3.5 to 4E over the next year or so, culminating in some sort of acknowledgement strip a month or so after they release info on the Bard class in the PHB2.

I totally expected this and agree with his reasoning. It would damage the story and world too heavily.

I could see it going either way to be honest. But this way makes sense. I'm sure 4e will make its way into the comic in some form, but I think that the comic is more about the D&D world and would work in most any edition for 95% of the jokes.

It wouldn't be the first comic to traverse editions but still be about D&D. Look at Nodwick.

Pretty much, and I agree with his reasoning (although he has already stated that Elan's class uses ignorance as a power source).

For the record, this topic was more as an humorous (or at least less serious) counterpoint to the Paizo/Monte Cook threads, and not as an "OMG 4e sucks because nobody's supporting it!!!" I've already got the core books and an extra phb preordered ;)

Really, though, his reasonings are extremely valid. And, really, what's wrong with finishing your 3.5 game before starting a 4e one? ^_^

See, Burlew will probably switch over to 4e with a few joke strips with things like "LIGHTNING CRIMSON MANTICORE BLADE WHIRLWIND FURY" and Roy decimating an entire legion of kobolds, and then the entire group will switch back because they realize that Vaarsuvius got kicked in the crotch with 4e.

I'd think the rest of the characters would petition to stay 4e, then, since they'd get to avoid watching Evan's Spiked Tentacles of Forced Intrusion again.
I find it more likely, though, that he'll just make whatever jokes he likes best without worrying about what edition they're referencing, as he did today.

I know we'll be finishing before switching. There's no way we could take this bat-crap insane gestalt break-all-the-rules-in-weird-ways game over to 4e. it wouldn't work, and would probably take us weeks to get something that even vaguely resembled what we were doing. ;) And our Master of Many Forms would be completely screwed... Not to mention the main villains who are all incarnum users...

Besides, we want to wait for some splats before busting out with the 4e might ;)

I think its funny how people are either saying that non-converters are making a huge ideological stand or that the only reason to not convert is to appeal to fans who hate 4e.

The idea that it MIGHT be possible that neither GiTP nor Pathfinder hate 4e but have a vested interest in the old rules seems impossible. I really doubt there's a huge amount of hatred on anyone's part but rather a desire for stability.

It's partially tongue in cheek, but I do see the OotS books out at most gaming stores I go to, and the game's available at every con I've been to so far since it was published...

I don't really expect everyone to have read or know what the comic is, though.

Uh, he's not changing his comic over to 4e, but he may make jokes about 4e. So... what?

I don't see the point of this post? What'd you expect? The point of his strip isn't to make fun of the rules quite so much anymore, so why did you think he'd switch?

I think a strip where huge swaths of plot, characters, races, ect all blanketly change before the parties eyes would be funny. Suddenly they are not in 3.5 anymore, but 4e, and they are the only ones who notice. Everyone else assumes it has always been this way, and they just sort of gloss over it for the rest of the comics from then on out.

I read it, and I really wasn't expecting him to switch, given that the story has drifted to character-based humor instead of rules-based. Add to the fact that he then threw in a 4e joke IN THAT VERY COMIC, and the message is clear: Rich will mine the funny from anywhere.

And? He says right there "I’m not making some ideological stand about how the current 3.5 Edition is superior or any such thing. I’m simply saying that there will not be a conscious and visible change in the comic strip…"

What is the big deal? I find it very sad that some people are so emotionally attached to a game edition that they need to find "celebrities" who support "their" edition in order to bolster their own sense of self worth.*

*For the record, I am not making any accusations of such against the OP or anyone else, it is simply a trend I have noted and which both baffles and saddens me.

I have an image of Roy being resurrected and seeing weirdness. Like Elan suddenly transforming from a stupid bard into a badass warlord? :D Belkar suddenly talking in a cajun accent? Haley switching off from a bow and arrows to a light blade? Vaarsuvius losing half his spells but being able to spam the one he has more often?

Then he sighs and shakes his head. "Edition Changes. . ." And he turns around, cleaves a goblin, and sees the one next to him fall down dead. O.o

"Wow, so that's what the new Cleave looks like."

-_-

Kind of like in the very first strip. (Though, without the huge swatsh of plot and character development.)

Remind me to add sarcasm and humor tags to any of my posts which I do not expect people to take seriously... *points again to his second post on the topic* I really didn't expect people to think that I really worried about whether or not a webcomic supports a particular version of D&D. Then you're not paying enough attention. Check out the C&C forums. People have, in utter earnestness, posted things several orders of magnitude more ridiculous than this in their quest to "prove" 4e is wrong.

Your post would barely have registered on the Ultra-Serious-Insane-Anti-4e-Rant-o-Meter. ;)

A main character is a Bard. OotS cant convert to 4e until the 4e Bard comes out. In the meantime itl be a hybrid homebrew.
