#2 zombie_babies Feb 02, 2011 12:06:59	Can't handle high winds?  Sounds like it'll work like a champ in between buildings in the city.  Oh, and I'm familiar with the manufacturer.  Used to be a vendor.  Them crooks have nothing to worry about if the quality of work and customer support is the same.  ;)

Miami Dade county hasn't hired any new officers in about 3 years. Same goes for firefighters. There hasn't been one hired in almost 4 years. But this... this is obviously useful. unless it is allowed outside...

For whatever reason, it seems security related vendors are just a-holes that don't do quality work.  You'd think they'd be better and do stuff like, you know, take your complaints seriously, ensure a good install, not interfere with other critical systems, etc but they don't.  None that I have ever dealt with have been in any way good to work with.  I'm glad I don't have to do much of that any more.

Then you have to wait for fire rescue to show up and provide medical attention.

In my case it was largely because there aren't enough of 'em that do what we needed them to do n order to foster real competition.  They have you stuck, know it and treat you accordingly.  Really typical, of course, but I had a harder time facing it since it was for something so important.  Having a snotty waitress at the only good steak house in town is one thing.  Having an uncooperative, lazy liason with a security vendor is quite another.

A Glock?  Seriously, you can't own a gun in Canada, unless you're in the western provinces and you've buried them near your house.  And since you've told us you live in a condo, gun ownership is right out for you.  Besides, I doubt you know which end of the barrel is the exit for the bullet (that's the actual projectile, as opposed to the round of ammunition). You'd be funny if you weren't pathetic.

#11 zombie_babies Feb 03, 2011 9:59:57	It'd be funnier if it wasn't true (and funnier still if it wasn't Dilbert ).  The sad trend of getting people to pay to beta test (DDI) is something I've seen at a high level as far as dealing with companies and the product they provide.  They sell you on something they didn't design with you in mind and then let you find the kinks they need to work out.  It's insane.  But, it seems, it's the way this crap is gonna work for now.

Since I'm "in that business" I know just what it's like... "Lets roll out so we can start making some money. We'll label it 'beta' so we have an excuse to not give back the money when everything inevitbly breaks down. We'll even save money on testing!"
#13 zombie_babies Feb 03, 2011 10:08:13	Yup.  Meanwhile the end user is screwed and invariably irritated when you seem stumped by the problems they bring up.  'Uhh, it shouldn't do that.  We'll look into it' is not a good thing to hear - repeatedly - when you're allegedly dealing with a final version.  Well, at least we get to upgrade to the .1 version here soon.  'Course it can't be expected to fix everything ...
