Any D&D inspired architects out there?

Mar 23, 2011 19:02:03 I was introduced to D&D as a kid back in the early '80s. Looking through the adventure modules and their associated maps/plans was fascinating to me, and inspired me to create drawings of my own castle, city, and eventually island for a campaign. I loved the design aspect of D&D, with the potential for exciting settings and environments for awesome campaigns. Sadly, I never got so into to the design of adventures or stories, and have yet to DM. However, I can honestly say that it was D&D that got me interested in architecture, and which led to my current profession as an architect.

How has D&D affected any other career choices out there?

Mar 23, 2011 21:48:43 DND serves partially as a foundation for the setting of my book (in the process of publication). I love 4e's concept of at-will powers and encounter powers, esp for arcane classes (I always thought that it was silly that a wizard had only one use of a spell and it was gone). That concept doesn't really work of the martial classes, but Essentials seems to have covered that nicely.

But seriously, the Gold Box D&D games are what really got me into computers. So D&D has really helped both my professional and gaming life.

Mar 24, 2011 7:34:40 Games in general turned me into a professional gamedesigner, and D&D certainly helped me get a thing for designing worlds and writing stories, so yeah I probably own a good bit of my carreer to it

Me? The problem solving aspects of the game helped me learn how to do that sort of thing - to find solutions where there don't seem to be any, etc. That's kinda sorta a major part of what I do for a living. Killing goblins, that is.

Hrm... the old D&D computer games were some of the first I played, and the first where I actually payed attention to the numbers and system behind the game. So I guess you could argue that helped promote my interest in systems, models, math and computers.

And now I've got a degree in computer science and trying for a job where I get to help model rockets1.

My art though... nah, D&D never really influenced my art much.
