| #1balcinokSep 19, 2008 15:22:30 | I think I've now spent about a week of my life listening to their music. Daft Punk Alive '07 is basically my foreign substance. Anyone else enjoy the techno euphoria of Daft Punk? |
| #2BloodsoulSep 19, 2008 22:44:19 | I picked up Musique, Vol. 1 a year or two ago, listen to it now and then along with JDFight and the soundtrack to Mortal Kombat. Basically.. whenever I'm in a techno-type mood.* I can still remember bits and pieces of those animated videos they made years ago for Cartoon Network's Toonami (was that back when Moltar was still the host?). Definitely one of Europe's best acts. *Note: to this day I can not tell the difference between "techno", "house", "jungle", "tra... trans?".. yeah, heck if I know. Anyway, I can't tell the difference between them, and I don't care about the difference. As long as it's got a good beat, that's all that matters. |
| #3balcinokSep 20, 2008 1:09:42 | The animated videos were actually a part of the movie "Interstella 5555" which is basically an entire anime movie put to one of their albums, though I can't for the life of me remember which one it was. |

| #6doomsoughtSep 20, 2008 18:48:47 | Daft punk rocks. I can't say it any other way. |
| #7unfamiliarSep 20, 2008 20:26:06 | Check out the video for Around the World on Youtube. One of my favorite all-time videos. It's good, but for my personal fave, nothing tops the epic-level weirdness of the Avalanches' Frontier Psychiatrist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8BWBn26bX0 |
| #81_ton_ghostSep 21, 2008 23:17:31 | Oh God yes, "Frontier Psychiatry" (good call btw) was a big ole' hit on 97x back a few years (here). Terribly popular. It's weird though, the rest of the LP doesn't sound much like it at all. But I thought there were like 6 turntableists in the Avalanches. Daft Punk is pretty good too. Very progressive, maintained for the years and are mroe or less "made". A good standby. We don't get enough European exposure these days, and we should. There's a glut of DJs, a dime a dozen, but DAft Punk has good credibility, somehow still relevant after all this time. I remember what they dubbed the Electronica Craze around '97 and all the big air play here (Prodigy, Chem Bros, Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack)...all Brit. Granted, the last 3 are triphop, but I digress. They were spinning that out for years prior in the France/UK/etc., then suddenly it's super cool in the states now (then). Even American Idol is Brit published. And as for all the many flavors of electronica...Thoughts, ideas? Jungle, Dub, Trance, Drum and Bass, Trip Hop, Ambient, Turntableism, etc... I mean, some is easy enought to ID straight off, but some more definition would help. Where does Daft Punk fit in? NOt that they need a label, but curious nonetheless. |
