| #1LadyNeferRaMay 17, 2009 0:38:21 | I don't play as much as I'd like, but somewhere along the line I've become the mapmaker of the adventure. I'm mostly designing maps for my DM's other players adventures, but nothing complex like the hex or square maps of yore. Our DM does mostly homemade adventures (is that a "homebrew"?) but everyone in the group always seemed to play easier if we just have a general landscape layout, then a detailed one of the cave, palace, crypt or gnoll stronghold that is the mission focus. I've found that mapmaking is really fun for me, and I just wonder if anyone else here does this or not. |

I did doodle the KotS maps out (the ones that were not provided in the adventure) and it was kind of interesting as far as making and using them. I do doddle world maps for my campaign setting. I however haven't done any of those in a while. It's because of laziness so I'm going to blame it on school. Damn you college! *shakes fist* |
| #7Mad_JackMay 17, 2009 20:17:38 | When I was younger and had huge amounts of spare time, I used to do tons of maps, even for things that had nothing to do with any game. I had a group of teenaged mutants that lived in an abandoned warehouse, and taped together about 25 sheets of graph paper to draw up an entire floor plan for all three levels of the building - it was about 4 feet by three feet by the time I finished it. Back in 1st/2nd I had a 14th level druid who had his own castle with a dryad in the garden. I mapped out the whole damn thing down to the last window. I've mapped out whole worlds for no other reason than just to create them. |

Castles & huge buildings are so much fun to map out. I love finding a spot to put the wizard's gizmos or labs. When I did my first major city just for the heck of it I thought I made the demi-human quarter too large. Now I look back on it and say it's MY city - no such thing as "too large". I play in an Egyptian style campaign, one of the first villages I settled in is still my favorite map. For a little place I think I made it very stylish yet functional. |
| #9terronusMay 18, 2009 13:22:57 | Not the party mapmaker, but whenever I'm one of the players, I'm usually the party "scribe" recording important names, places, and historical stuff (not to mention the loot we pick up). I really enjoy that player role, as well, because writing stuff down helps as a mnemonic device for me, letting me roleplay more fluidly. Kinda like having a map laid out so you get a more in-depth feel for the environment. ![]() |

| #11spellwyrmMay 28, 2009 2:07:11 | I frequently build maps for no other reason then I can, then I do not folly myself into believing their topnotch or anything special. Several sheets of graph paper, some pencils, erasers and a bit of imagination. No colour, though I do shade now and then. Nothing extravagant, just enough to get the basic point across. |
| #12E._RavenwoodMay 28, 2009 2:23:53 | I love making maps for campaigns. But as a cartographer, I like making maps for anything. I've actually been paid to make maps for other's campaigns at my local gaming store. |
